Re: Reading with a Braille display in the Kindle app

2016-01-29 Thread Cheryl Lenartiene
Hi,
I can confirm that turning off auto panning does not eliminate the behavior.
What it does do is safeguard against you scrolling to the next page as you're
looking for your place. 4,5,6-chord doesn't work in the Kindle app, so I have
to pan display length by display length to find my place. Hopefully, Apple will
fix this.

Well, that's interesting. I'm using a Focus 40 Blue Classic. Does anyone know
if this bug is confined to the Focus displays? I know there's a lot of
uniformity among the various display drivers. I would expect that this is not a
display specific issue, but I am curious nonetheless. I'll turn automatic
panning off to see what happens and then report back here and to Apple.

Hi Anna,
Yes, I have. I've actually been seeing this behavior for a little while, at
least ever since 9.2.1 was in public Beta. But I've made purchases at the same
time, so I can't say whether something was introduced into iOS, or whether the
the behavior is content specific. I mostly read Bibles and Bible commentaries

Re: Reading with a Braille display in the Kindle app

2016-01-28 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Cheryl,

I'm not seeing this behavior in the Kindle app. Have you tried removing the
Kindle app from the app switcher and restarting it, and restarting your phone?

Best,
Anna

Reading with a Braille display in the Kindle app

2016-01-26 Thread Cheryl Lenartiene
Hi all,
I apologize if this has been discussed before, but I'm hoping there is a
solution. When I read Kindle books with my Braille display, as I near the end
of the page, the display cuts off in the middle of a word, and when I pan to
the right, I'm taken back to the top of the page. When I pan through the page a
second time, I can read normally all the way through and am taken to the next
page once I reach the end of the current page. This happens on every single
page of my Kindle books, causing me to read, or at least scroll through, each
page twice. Does anyone know why this is happening and whether there is a
solution?
Thanks!

Re: reading with a braille display

2013-07-28 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi Rebecca,

When you get to the page chooser in iBooks, pan left once. Then the Space with
O command will work just fine. Some braille displays have keys that do the same
thing as Space with O. For instance, the right rocker switch on the front of
the Focus 40 moves you to the next page when you press down on it. Just be sure
to pan left once from the page chooser before you press the switch or Space
with O.

Cheers,
Anna

reading with a braille display

2013-07-28 Thread Rebecca Ilniski
Hi everyone. If you read a book with a braille display, which apps do you use?
For me I find that the kindle app works well as yyou can use o with the space
bar to go to the next page. I've tired this in ibooks and voicedream but no
go. Ibooks has that strange page chooser at the bottom of every page. I would
love to move all of those ibooks in to kindle so that I can read at my leisure.
So if you read, which apps do you find work with your braille display?

Re: Which app would be best for a file to advance through for reading with a braille display?

2012-10-21 Thread Scott Howell
You might consider making an epub using something like Pages and putting page
breaks in the appropriate places. I have used this for some materials and it
worked reasonably well and I just used iBooks.

Which app would be best for a file to advance through for reading with a braille display?

2012-10-21 Thread Cheryl Homiak
Today I used my Refreshabraille 18 for the first time in church. I had it
paired with my iPhone and I used it with the notes app to take notes. That
worked quite well. Now I would like to try going a step further.

In church we sing from 5 to 7 songs, have a short Scripture reading at the
beginning, another a little further on, then sometimes have a different reading
for the sermon, and another short Scripture reading at the very end. I have a
notebook full of words to songs I have copied that are used in this church and
I keep the songs we are going to sing each week in the front, then put them
back by alphabetical order afterward. Either I stuff two or three volumes of my
Bible in my backpack with the worship notebook or i just copy out the passages
for the week and put them in the worship notebook with my music. Although I
don't know if I can advance through a song fast enough to use the
Refreshabraille and iPhone for singing, I would like to try it and I think I
could move fast enough to read the Scripture passages if I had them ready. I am
wanting to know which app would be best for putting everything for one Sunday
morning in a file in chronological order so that I could just follow through as
we progress from beginning to end, stopping only when I go to Notes to take
notes during the sermon. I would want something without a lot of other buttons
or options where I could sync the text file onto my iPhone and work through it
and also hopefully have it hold my place in the file when I leave the app and
come back, Does anybody have any ideas as to what app would be best for trying
this?

Thanks.
