Hi
Watching a local PBS show "The Songwriters" based in Nashville. They interviewed Jim Weatherly who wrote "Midnight Train to Georgia" and "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me". Mr. Weatherly was a friend of Jim Nabors. Jim got him in touch with Dick Linke and he was Mr. Weatherly manager. Danny Thomas was the father-in-law of Larry Gordon, Larry got Mr. Weatherly to write "The Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me" as an anniversary song for Danny to sing to his wife. The song "Midnight Train to Georgia" was supposed to be "Midnight Plane to Houston". Mr. Weatherly said that he was either talking to Lee Majors or Farrah Fawcett and she was packing to go to Houston to see family and that sounded like a song to him. hi
I like to read the digest when I get to work, usually there is about four to five digests waiting for me. I read them during my breaks and lunch time, which is around two a.m.. Not only do I love TAGS, but I have several shows on DVD. My list of shows on DVD are: TAGS, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, Bewitched, Gomer Pyle, The Munsters, The Addams Family, and All Creatures Great and Small. Also the first season of Mayberry R.F.D. and the odd DVD of The Beverly Hillbillies and Petticoat Junction. The reason I bought Bewitched and Gilligan's Island at the time was because my Dad had cancer and he just wanted to be able to laugh at something very funny. Plus I loved those shows growing up, I got to watch them more than TAGS during the 1970's. If Daddy thought a show was funny I would buy the show if I could, just so that he could laugh, I miss hearing him laugh. We would watch TAGS on a local channel in Nashville. My list of movies is too long, but most of them are from the years 1930-1970. I like to watch the old movies and TV shows because I may spot someone who was on TAGS. We only have over-the-air TV and because of that I'm getting MeTV, Antenna TV, GetTV, CoziTV, and Movies channel, and the regular Network shows (not watching much of that stuff). I like to watch the old shows see if anyone was on TAGS. Ken Anderson and his pickle jokes were very funny. Keep them coming. Just keep the digest going. Margaret Floyd: "I'm going to Nashville." HI
Hello fellow TAGS lovers. It seems that we are not doing justice to this wonderful site. I know that I don't write in often. But I do love to read what everyone else has written. Okay since it is the start of summer...I want to read the stories from Ken Anderson and the parades. Paul Mulik and his knowledge of TAGS is beyond compare. I only get to read the stories when I am at work, it helps make the nights go faster. People having TAGS sightings on other show are fun to know about. I had two sightings today on Petticoat Junction: Roy Roberts and Charles Lane. The Petticoat Junction show is one I had never seen before, several of the last episodes I have never seen. The other sighting is obvious it is from The Beverly Hillbillies: Buddy Ebsen. The METV channel is great for seeing old shows that I love to watch. Seeing old movies on GETTV and MovieTVNetwork. Around Mother's day I saw "Love Nest", Marilyn Monroe was in the movie and so was Dabbs Greer, he was just in one scene. I want to wish Andy Griffith and Marilyn Monroe an early birthday, June 1, 1926. Miss them, but I still get to watch TAGS and see the movies. TAGS fan Margaret Floyd: "I'm going to Nashville." hi y'all
I have been kind of "away" but not really. Busy is all. I seem to remember Aunt Bee mentioning Marshall Dillon and I know Gunsmoke was on CBS on Saturday nights.? We used to go to my aunt's house on a lot of Saturday's and we would eat dinner and watch Have Gun Will Travel, Perry Mason and Gunsmoke.? I also remember Gunsmoke Once when my parents got the bright idea that we would all have horses or ponies (for us children), and we went riding and stopped at a little cabin and they had a little tv set there - We had to watch Gunsmoke in the cabin, because my parents could not miss it! Then we were able to ride home! Does anyone remember him wearing glasses in any other episodes? ha ha not really but I remember that fellow who was going to be foreclosed had to wear glasses to read and his wife could not read to him because of all that ironing - all those cotton fabrics. ha ha ! "under the influence of elixir!" "titanium bumpers!" The titanium reminds of my older son reading the "properties" of various metals or something when in high school and just went on about how strong titanium is! Good to be back Aunt Bee in Illinois -- "Then the Lord said to me, 'You have seen well, for I am watching over my word to perform it.'" Well hi, Amanda
The Amanda I remember is when Barney is trying to find the right girl for Andy and all "them girls" come over to Andy's house because Barney invited them. She walks in and another gal says, "Well hi, Amanda!". "Get them girls outta here. Get them girls outta here!" Hi Again...2nd time
Hi Mayberry Just wantedto reintroduce myself to you and yours. My name is Bill Grella and I was active a few years back. I live in Leesburg, VA. I hasve had the honor to met a number of you at some of the past Mayberry events and I hope that I will be able ot make some old acquaintences in the very near future. I was/am known as themiloboys. Still seeking my Thelma Lou One thing that has probably been discussed, but if you saw the movie "Waitress" then you may agree with me, but Andy stole the movie. He was the epitome of a supporting actor with the best lines. Although he was supposed to be a crumudgeon, he was a real kind hearted "Mayberry" guy. Take Care Mayberry! Hi Allan, It just occurred to me that I haven't introduced myself to my fellow Mayberry folks. May I do that the next time you have introductions? Hi Tom
Tom - I think that question was a serious question and I really don't think anyone was making sport at all. I believe that most if not all of us are very interested in hearing about the actors you have met and/or corresponded with through the years. Many questions and comments have come through the list about Mr. Schwamp's identity, and it is one of the major curiosities about TAGS. We understand that it is labor intensive for you to type your emails and we really do appreciate your effort to tell us about the actors you have known. It is truly interesting to hear about people that I will never have the chance to know because most are already gone, like Frances Bavier and others. I just think someone was wondering if maybe you really did know who Mr. Schwamp was since you have done so much research into so many actors and their backgrounds. With respect, Lisa > whether poised as a serious question or whether im being made sport of, > im > dead serious about my actors character and supporting characters. HI all
Hi fellow mayberrians, My computer had a bad virus and now I'm back with a new computer. Thank you for the warnings on buying dvds from other companies . I guess, not everyone is as nice or honest as our group is. Little Leon walking around w/ a sandwhich looking as cute as could be... w/o parents. I'd like to think it was ok for him to walk around without a care in the world in a heavenly location like Mayberry. Instead of lack of being watched maybe knowing everyone was keeping an eye on him rather then walking all about alone. That has to make everyone smile..knowing he had 45 caregivers then zero. Hi folks
Hi After working all weekend it is sure nice to see TAGS in my email box. Our milkman... did not have a key the door wasn't locked so he just came on in. See when mom ordered more then a gal of milk he knew us kids couldn't pick it up..so he just carried it in. He also made sure the cups in the fridge were half full so my sister and I could have cereal on saturday am. Sometimes I'd be awake...now mind you I was 4 or 5. he'd ask for some sugar. I may have kissed or hugged him. I do recall replying "no, I'm not kissing you today" My grandparents dog would meet him in town at thier place and then run a mile to our place to see him out there again. Yes, norman rockwell would have been bored..and in some cases it sounds like Opie lived just down the street. Now I have read about Aunt Bee being a pistol to work with, I believe she may have been hard but she was a stage actress ..who had years of respect and hard work under her belt ( she was 60 or 65 in the tags yrs). How would you feel some kid worked where you did and people were falling all over him or her? Jealous? I know I would be at first. But I may become annoyed with working on stage and being know for only one part. Maybe to her that was an insult? Maybe she felt that way. Maybe she could never fathom that nearly 50 yrs later people would STILL be thinking of her. I would have liked to know her calling her ms. baviar of course. I would not call her Aunt bee..that would be like folks calling me MRS Greeter Miss teacher...ect. Just a thought. Oh yeah i saw Mayor stoner in green acres, the munsters and then again on the Golden Girls.. he sure does get around. 10-4 Erin Mayberry's midwest mocha momma - Luggage? GPS? Comic books?
