Also, logging the wmf-config revid won't help as long as no one but me bothers
to commit their changes to that repo (use /h/w/bin/configchange , it's a
sync-file wrapper that does this for you) and the autocommit-after-30-minutes
script is broken because wmf-config moved.

I commit to it, and I know JeLUFs script (which Hashar uses) does the svn
commit, closes the bug and reports the revisions

Hi.

I've just updated to SMW 1.6RC1 to perform some regression testing. This meant
I had to update SRF to version 1.6RC1 r93379.

Exhibit queries no longer work and it seems to be making external calls now to
simile.org. Something major has obviously changed, but I cannot see any
reference on the MW SRF page.

e.g.

{{#ask:
[[Category:Articles]]
[[Headline::+]]
|?Headline
|?Body Text
|?Day
|?Month
|?Year
|facets=Year,Month
|format=exhibit
}}

now returns nothing.

This will break all the SMW websites I have deployed as I use exhibit a lot.

Thanks.

 it seems to be making external calls now to simile.org.

I hope you mean that svn is pulling from that site, and not that resources are
getting loaded from there when actually using Exhibit? I recently replaced the
copy of Exhbit in SRF with an svn externals to trunk of the exhibit repo.

I also attempted to fix Exhibit compat with MW 1.17, but apparently broke
things. I will revert these changes soonish, as I don't have time to debug and
fix this.

Hi Jeroen.

No, when an exhibit query now runs you can see it making calls out to
simile.org.
Perhaps svn is pulling the new Exhibit V3?

I guess the simple short term resolution is to make SRF 1.4.3 compatible with
SMW 1.6. It throws an error at present, but I would think it would be easier to
fix this than try to sort out exhibit itself. This way a compatibility path
will be maintained.

Cheers
Neill.

FYI. SRF 1.5.3 error when running with SMW 1.6 is:
PHP Fatal error: Declaration of SRFExhibit::getResultText() must be compatible
with that of SMWResultPrinter::getResultText() in
/var/www/webapps/iow/extensions/SemanticResultFormats/Exhibit/SRF_Exhibit.php
on line 452

Sorry in comment 2 above 1.4.3 should read 1.5.3 :)

Cheers

Modifying SRF 1.5.x to work with SMW 1.6.x or above is not practical. The
easiest way to fix this is just revert the changes I made a few days ago.

 No, when an exhibit query now runs you can see it making calls out to
simile.org.

That's not very nice...

 Perhaps svn is pulling the new Exhibit V3?

It's pulling Exhibit trunk. I was hoping this would get rid of previously
reported JS issues, but if this causes problems, I'll also just revert. I
really don't have time ATM to do anything more.

Hi Jeroen.

I understand the time pressures you are no doubt under. The revert should
hopefully sort it for now.

I guess it will have to be got working somehow before SMW 1.6 goes live though
or a lot of people will have broken sites. It is one of the most useful query
formats. It's a shame it is such a nasty tangle of javascript!

I would suggest that version of the exhibit js used by SRF 1.5.3 be used. The
exhibit trunk is indeed V3 which is a radical departure from V2 and is only in
early alpha stage. I doubt it will even produce any output with SRF.

One day soon we'll kick off that re-write we spoke about a while back :)

Cheers
Neill.

Thanks for figuring out the Exhibit version difference; I actually concluded it
was pretty much the same when I put in the svn externals, but apparently not.

 It is one of the most useful query formats.

To bad no one is maintaining it though; if some dev would step up to do that,
it'd be awesome.

 One day soon we'll kick off that re-write we spoke about a while back :)

Right; do give me a heads up in advance if possible, so I can make time for it.

 Actually, thinking about it more, I think we should go with green/blue and not
 red/blue.
How come? Accessibility or aesthetics? If there aren't any accessibility
reasons, I'd really prefer the red-blue. I think they make a rather nice
contrast ( actually they are exactly opposites on a typical color wheel )

(In reply to comment #28)
 I like that one (diffRedGreen4.css), but can we put the lines back around the
 text?

1. Edit any article.
2. Make a change in the edit box but do not save.
3. (Optional) Click the History link: confirm that you get a proper edit
warning. Cancel it.
4. Remaining on the edit page, type text into the search box and press Enter.

[Bug 4947] SVGZ (gzipped SVG) support

2011-07-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #22 from Brion Vibber br...@wikimedia.org 2011-07-28 18:32:41 UTC
---
Hmm, it kinda looks like that won't be able to distinguish between a gzipped
file with .svg extension (wrong) and a gzipped file with .svgz extension
(right), or an uncompressed file with .svgz extension (wrong) and an
uncompressed file with .svg extension (right).

It also doesn't look like the SvgMetadataExtractor class will automatically
pick up compression -- it uses XMLReader directly -- so we won't be able to
extract width/height and any generic metadata that may be in the file. If we
don't have a size, we can't render it.

[Bug 30104] EmailNotification::composeCommonMailtext became private in 1.17 which breaks extensions

2011-07-28 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #2 from Dan Barrett mediaw...@blazemonger.com 2011-07-28 19:02:26
UTC ---
Alternatively, is there an approved way to substitute a different subject line
and body for a notification email, programmatically depending on circumstances?
 In our extension, which watches only for changes to category pages, we
subclass the EmailNotification class and override composeCommonMailtext like
this:

class CategoryWatcherEmailNotification extends EmailNotification {
  var $mySubject;
  var $myBody;

  // Override the body and subject
  function composeCommonMailtext() {
$result = parent::composeCommonMailtext();
if ($this-mySubject) { $this-subject = $this-mySubject; }
if ($this-myBody) { $this-body = $this-myBody; }
  }
  ...

Then we attach to the LinksUpdate hook with a callback that creates a
CategoryWatcherEmailNotification object (instead of an EmailNotification) and
runs notifyOnPageChange().

Indicate that MediaWiki is licensed only under GPL v2. Fixed link to GNU.org.

MediaWiki is licensed under GPL v2.

GPL v3 is incompatible with GPL v2.[1]

An extension writer I work with recently committed some code under GPL v3. I am
already telling him to fix this, since we already have the implicit ban on GPL
v3 because we say that extensions must be under a compatible license.

But I noticed in the course of doing this that the README file says MediaWiki
it is licensed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, version 2 or
later. This was added in 2005[2], well before it was known that GPL v3 was
incompatible. So, we should fix this.

Patch attached - just making this bug so it gets a wider airing before I pull
the trigger.

Aye this was an error in the banner code. I've fixed and tested it now and so
am going to close. It was already pushed out to my browser (firefox and chrome
Ubuntu) but may take up to 10 minutes or so to get everywhere because of the
cache.

The good news is that Kaldari just finished (and I'm testing as we speak) a new
hiding system that will 1. Allow you to hide just fundraising banners (or non
fundraising banners) and 2. Will mean that we no longer need the css that has
caused this error sporadically when people didn't update their copy/pasted
code.

It also means that later on we'll be able to let people choose what 'type' of
banners they want to see.. for the start it will just be fundraising/non
fundraising. That code will likely get pushed out in 2 weeks or so (right after
wikimania) and will take a week or two of time to transition into the new
system.

Please reopen/let us know if this isn't working in the next 10 minutes or so.

We're not, the patch just removes the or later from the GPL v2 or later.

(In reply to comment #3)
 Is there a reason we need two query params doing the same thing here?

The UserLang parameter that was already there is for the initial language page
and not intended to be used like requested in the bug. I thought it would also
be more initiative to keep the style of the uselang param name from the rest of
the software consistent here.

Okay, RobLa and I just talked about this in person, and I think I understand it
now. So we don't mind being open to GPLv3, in the sense that someone could
write an extension that was GPLv3, and then the combination of MediaWiki plus
that extension would be GPLv3.

However, as a matter of WMF policy, is it correct to assume that everyone who
works for us should be writing GPLv2, or just saying this extension is
licensed under the same terms as MediaWiki?

That is, GPL v2 or greater. Jeroen wants to abbreviate this as @license GPL

What piece of software are you thinking of?

Proper solution for this (as so many things) is to finish ripping out the
crappy old talk pages system and replace it with a sane threaded

Yeah, pretty much all the code we're writing should be GPLv2 or later to

Occasional separate bits are sometimes MIT or 2-clause BSD or otherwise

Yeah, I can confirm that ain't pretty. I got:

$wgScriptPath   = maintenance/install.php;

despite explicitly setting --scriptpath=/wiki on the command line.

On CLI you can't really guess the script path (if you look higher in the path
you *might* be able to fake it by recognizing common paths like /var/www or
/Library/Documents/WebServer or such, it's not likely to be reliable). It
shouldn't be trying to derive the path, but even if it does by default the
explicit setting should be taking priority!

(Note that in general, the existing talk page system needs to be wholly

clutter the UI and are confusing -- they are. Just don't expect things to work

I think this issue is too general ... since each different function which
reports this error most certainly have their own explanations, right?

Just as an example, in my case, I got the error Call to a member function
isListed() on a non-object ... on entering Special:SpecialPages
(https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30109), which turned out to be
because of inconsistent naming of the SpecialPage ARC2Admin (named
SpecialARC2Admin in some places), and fixed at r93441 ... but obviously that
doesn't apply for the other errors in this issue.

 It quickly and easily solves the problem, but maybe causes new ones? I suppose
 with some more testing, it can be decided whether the ease of fixing the bug
 this way is worth the potential inconvenience of having it floated by default.

It looks better, but I don't like the last example here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:MarkAHershberger/Bug_Examples#with_the_div_hack

On my screen (1200px wide), the next section comes up without the clear: both
hack. With it, the way the first two float together would be prevented.

[Bug 30039] ParserFunctions + Variables: tighter integration.

In installations where ParserFunctions is installed but Variables is not,
$wgExtVariables is undefined, and so referencing it is a register_globals
vulnerability.

The ParserFunctions extension should not contain references to the Variables
extension in the same way that core code should not contain references to
extensions. You should include hooks in ParserFunctions and hook functions in
Variables which handle the actual processing (and could happily be used by
other extensions). It's fine to tweak the code flow in ParserFunctions to
ensure you can pass the right things to the hook.

I believe we already have an 'emailconfirmed' implicit usergroup. The simplest
way of implementing this would be to implement the opposite, an
'emailunconfirmed' group.  Then
$wgRevokePermissions['emailunconfirmed'][perm] revokes the right when the
user is unverified. This also seems to have the best aesthetic of fine-grained
control over which permissions are affected by the feature.
