Cormorants look all dark below, have a longer tail than geese, and have a kink in their thick neck like someone had tried to strangle them--Dave NutterOn Apr 13, 2014, at 09:38 PM, "Kenneth V. Rosenberg" wrote:Nancy, that's exactly right for migrating cormorants. Yesterday we had several small flo
Nancy, that's exactly right for migrating cormorants. Yesterday we had several
small flocks like that over Mt. Pleasant and I had a small flock of 5 over my
house in Ithaca. They can look very much like geese, but they will often circle
higher and reform their flock, which geese never do.

Danby/Newfield town line, which corresponds to the boundary between my woods

Thrushes are singing down by the brook, as I'm 100 yards up the bank.
As Larry and I were just out in the yard listening to the wonderful 'dusk
chorus', I spotted a Bat flying around---our first of the year!!

Just one day after Ken's observation, my (presumed) local Broad-winged Hawk is
back on territory. I've seen him several times today, flying low over his
traditional nest area, not far above the treetops, calling out the familiar
"Pe-h?" as if expecting an answer. I recently discovered wh

That's the second pair trying to nest on CU campus athletic field lights. I
think CU should consider putting up a safe osprey platform or two!

First of yard year EASTERN TOWHEE showed up today (W Meadow Dr Lansing) singing

This morning at 0730 I was surprised to hear a Brown Thrasher singing away here
in suburbia. I caught a brief glimpse of the singer before he took off.
Around 0810 a Pine Warbler was singing on Comstock Knoll as if he intended to

Just saw what I believe were a flock of cormorants, pretty high up, in a
flock like geese, maybe 35-40 of them. Heading north. Looks like the
silhouette in Sibley, though. My best guess.
