Really hoping to have this in soon. Global menu is a good idea on a
1366x768 laptop, or when fullscreen... but on a 30" screen I have to
cross 2 other applications to reach the menu for the application I'm
using!

Transfer dialog is not properly focused on quick
Since the best solution to this seems to be a patch in X.Org and Mir is
currently in the pipeline, is it worth leaving this bug for now and
revisiting it when Mir arrives?

small patch and impact only unity sessions (the code does nothing out of
Unity)

What was it you tried to do? The way to send patches upstream is to attach
it to the bug report that I indicated and check the box that marks it as a
patch.
