Dear Members & Friends,
In the week after Thanksgiving, nearly 40,000 of you signed our petition,

I actually would be surprised if they limit your argument time, but I guess
they could. Greg is right about being concise anyway, though. You can
probably submit a memo in writing if you want to, which lays out the various
arguments and evidence and supporting cases, etc. If you had a lawy

Thanks, Michelle – I started looking into
the zoning ordinance and started getting a headache.. Greg also told me to stop
digging into more information – he said I probably have 30 mins to present my
case and I have about 4 hours worth of information I need to present – he told
me to make e
Hideyo,
This is getting a little beyond me, as I do not have any
experience with zoning, but if they told you they were giving you a sanctuary
permit (as opposed to a permit to just have 18 cats), I think you have an even
stronger case. The government can not approve a status like that o
I watched the video about the foxes and raccoon
dogs. It's the most horrible thing I've ever seen. So
gruesome. Made me cry. Boycott seems like such a
passive thing to do in the face of such suffering.

I also live in a residential zone –
and sanctuary status is only given only to the commercial zone – and that’s
why they did not give to me this time (though that what the office gave to me
also in 2004). When I talked to the lady with the status and asked her about sanctuary

I just left Walmart and they have all these fur pillows there that are made in China. They look and feel like real cat fur. Is this possible could Walmart be caring articles made from cat and dog fur? I saw the Larry King show about this terrible problem and I haven't been able to sleep since. Wh
Hmm. Wow, I would want to bring up that other woman's case, but
you're right in not wanting to jeopardize her. What is the zoning for where you
are? If you incorporated as a nonprofit rescue group, could you get a kennel or
sanctuary license?

Ok, if you are going to be before a hearing officer rather than a judge,
Greg is right-- the hearing officer probably can not, let alone will not, rule

If they all have limits and they are a fixed number, I probably would not

It is really random. Where does it come from? Are they suggesting that

Yeah.. Greg’s friend is a very good

I would make the equitable estoppel argument, that you relied on what you
were told by the government. Did you spend any money fixing things up for
the cats in the past year since he said you had the permit? If so, seriously, I
would document that and point out that you relied financially,
What I found out from Denise who is
director of animal services division is that they are currently investigating
him for some misconduct he did not follow the procedure, could the city

Actually, the "owner" indicated that it was her choice because she herself has

Gloria,
I'm sorry to hear about Chrissy. Do you think the vet
recommended euthanasia for a bladder stone? Doesn't
make sense.

That is really strange-- that they say you need a permit but do not have
any written record of giving them out? I would say that bolsters the claim
of arbitrary and capricious behavior-- that they do not seem to have a uniform
way of deciding or recording the permits, and seem to do it by w
Look at the reasoning used in the decisions you have where ordinances were
struck down, and see if you can use that.
Also, if you can get one of your "expert" witnesses-- the vet or the animal
services person who is writing you a letter-- to say in a letter or in testimony

No, the citation is just the book and volume number. You probably
have the actual court decision. Thanks for offering to fax it, but that's
not necessary. I saved the summary that you sent me, and if I ever need access

That is so true - that they are in our hearts forever. Even if they've only been our fosters for a very short time. Chrissy was so pretty and had been so unhappy around other kitties, and this seemed to be the perfect home for her. TenHouseCats <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: sigh. i'm sorry, gloria

Yes, it has to be prescribed thru a vet because as I said it is a
"controlled" drug - right up there with narcotics.
However, it does work very well with cats that seem to be "wasting away"
due to their illnesses.
As much as use of steroids is debated, I feel when it comes down to givi
That's very good to know. I'll copy this to Susan, who's on this
