The term does predate Rastafarianism and Bob Marley so I'm sure his use
of the phrase isn't intended to evoke either.

Gotta disagree with you Derek, the album actually doesn't suck e
I do think that musically it is much more interesting than Musicology and
3121, in terms of production, arrangements, and composition. But yeah the
lyrics are really clumsy at points. I especially cringed at "Lion of
Judah"--coming from a Caribbean background drenched in Rastafarianism &

Wow. That's really odd to me. Are you a music lover? One thing for sure is
with that "immediate hate or love it" attitude is you could be a record

Yo..I hated 1999, PR, Parade and Lovesexy upon first listen. "Grow on me"

I don't know if that's true. If you listen to the radio (which sadly I do

You know if my CD copies of ATWIAD and Parade weren't so sh*tty, I'd

I think when you listen to something over and over again, It's not any
better than the first time around. You just warm up to it because you
become accustomed to listening to it.
Imo, a great song is something that moves you on your first listen. If I

Oh lawd, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree. Either you like
the song and it catches you the first time or it's basically a no go for
me too.
Then it gets edited out of my playlist, unless someone else is playing
it.

Honestly, I think this entire album probably sounds better live. Think about
it. How many of you were feeling the 3121.com version of "Guitar"? I was
happier with the Planet Earth version personally. Maybe that is a part of his
design (doubtful), but theres a good chance this sounded better when he

I AM looking forward to the remixes of Chelsea Rodgers, now that you
mention it. Man if DJ Spinna gets a hold of that it's going to be CRAZY. I
will personally play a Chelsea Rodgers remix on Mobile Soul, but then my
show is a lot of house, so it fits. The rest of the album? I can't use.

I agree, too. It boggles the mind how he keeps shooting himself in the
foot like this. 3121 was wonderful. Musicology was a good album too, both
critically acclaimed. Now, after all these exclusive (read: expensive)
shows and a lot of wonderful press, this album arrives to mediocre reviews

I've listened to it and it definitely isnt a complete album of good
songs. For someone who is prolific on the guitar he sure doesn't utilize
it like in his live concerts.

This sucks.
Agreed. My review of Planet Earth is: "what IS this?" These are definitely
the rehearsal sessions from Rainbow Children and Musicology. I'm happy to
hear him playing interesting guitar a little more, but I wish he'd play more
guitar on less hokey songs.
Couldn't he have sold Sony that C-Note albu
Dayum, D!
I think that's pretty harsh. I wouldn't say it's a masterpiece but I do
think the music on it is a lot more interesting (in terms of bridges, key
changes, solos, and orchestration) than Musicology and 3121, especially on
tracks like "Planet Earth" and "Somewhere Here On Earth"--two of m

Well Derek,,, Sadly I must say I agree with you. I heard it and will buy it
when it comes out but probably won't put it back in cd player anytime soon. And
that sucks because I LOVED 3121 and thought I had the "old" Prince back.
