I'm a big fan of the shellac. It started out as an aesthetic tool to match
the handlebars with my Honey Brooks saddle (about three coats of amber on
white tape) which worked wonderfully. After riding for a while I really
began to appreciate the texture and grip it provides and can't see
A tropical data point: cloth tape with two or three coats of shellac only took
a year to develop mold spots in northern Thailand. Just an aesthetic concern,
but worth a note. I then swapped bars a couple of times (noodles to moustaches
to VO porteurs) and haven't bothered retaping at all. Am
I love the look of bare Nitto-- great not-shiny look. Too bad it gets darn
cold and darn hot here in the Boston area!

it came with what looks like a single coat of shellac. FYI - but it was
fine for me, I had intended on shellac anyway. You might double check
with Riv if you don't want it shellaced at all.I've got two coats of
By no means do I mean this to be snarky, but the following statement
gave me a little chuckle:
However, I successfully reused some [handlebar tape] on a kickstand where
I wasn't very concerned about the aesthetics.
I also like the feel of shellaced bar tape. I particularly appreciate how
Thanks, y'all.
I think I will go un-shellaced on the bartape and see how it goes.
