system does not boot (it hangs after discovering the disks). It does not
boot even with the old kernel. I have not tried the above solution yet,
but it seemed to me that there was a problem with mdadm.

After running sudo apt-get update and installing the updates a couple of
days later, the computer now boots into ubuntu with no error messages.

A Panasonic KX-P7100 connected by USB is not visible and the USB port
does not appear as an option.

Trying to install Printconf from the synaptic fails due to incorrect
file versions.

I am not using either of those. It was still occuring without the
gdesklets.. It is not now because I reinstalled Ubuntu. That worked fine
for a day or two then the internet connection suddenly quit working. So
until I have more time to deal with that I have given up on Ubuntu for
the most part.
