I've found a less than satisfactory, but acceptable solution until this
bug is fixed. When I log in, the first thing I do is issue the command
xset -dpms to turn off the energy star features (standby, suspend,
off). This means I can now have my screensaver active and close the lid

Solution found.
You need to delete the CUPS-PDF printer then install it again going through the
New Printer dialogue.
I haven't tried it, but this procedure may work for other printers too which do
not work after the upgrade.
So this issue can be closed.

Since a few days ago the auto or manual mounting of USB devices is not working.
As far as I've seen the block device for the USB devices are not created in
/dev/.
The device name and ID is visible with lsusb.
