Ok so when a disk check is done then I end up with a usable system (get
a more blurred horizontal set of coloured lines which goes away). Am now
on 2.6.32-24 (same problems) am going to attach xorg from this bootup,
dont know if it is useful as system does boot ok after the disk check.
Also for you

2 things
1) booted 2.6.32-23 in recovery mode failsafe graphics this seems to work OK,
should I do an apport collect on this?
2) I cannot be positive but I believe that I booted to 2.6.32-23 and that the
disk checker started and after the disk checking the system loaded OK, is there
a way i can
Hi
To sum it up: I tried and failed.
Installing new kernel was OK (using sudo dpkg -i *.deb)
Installing new PPA (add-apt-repository), updating with added new Lucid
packages : was OK
When booting with new kernel, it stopped with message:
(process : 292) : Glib-Warning ** :get pwuid_r ( ) : failed
I have been experiencing this issue on 2.6.35-rc3 when a bunch of kernel
debug options are enabled - let me know if you'd like the .config (tuned
for an Intel desktop board). It reproduces reliably usually within an
hour of activity and we get a similar signature [1] to other reports.

I experience similar problems with i915. Random crashes occur with "gpu
hung" and batchbuffer errors. This has happened 3-4 times, within three
days, since installing Lucid. I've not been able to reproduce the crash;

I have Ubunto 10.4 on Dell Studio 1537.
Usually it works fine, but sometimes when I boot the computer I get no top
window bar with the buttons.
On next boot it goes back to being normal again...
