OK maybe you got one from a duff batch. From what you say the fault
seems severer than an aesthetic one and appears to be technical. Take it
back to the shop and order from Hardwax? :)

i doubt it, this is like listening to a 64kb mp3, i honestly can't
believe it's intentional! and the last tresor Octave One 12 was fairly
normal.

Hmm. Hesitate to say this as I haven't heard it, but is it not possible
that you're actully experiencing the nu-skool DM 'overcompression'
mastering aesthetic? I've noticed it a lot with their projects over the
last few years. Sadly, the beautiful sense of proportion coupled with
amazing clarity and impressive volume which we used to get from records
which passed through their shop, seems to be harder to find nowadays ...

just wondering if anyone else has picked up the double vinyl of this on
Tresor? Got my copy the other day and the pressing is terrible, really
distorted. There is absolutely no way I could play this in a
clubwhich i'm gutted about, cos there are some killer tracks on it.
I have the single 12 on tresor which is fine.

is this widespread or is it just an unlucky one off? it's mastered and
pressed at DM so i'm thinking it must be a mistake...

2007-12-07 Thread jwan allen
I have this as well, just haven't played it that much, since I didn't
mean to order this version. That's on me, but I still find it somewhat
annoying that 12 and album have the same title. I must have been on
something at the time, not to realize the price difference and or the
format, again that's on me. I'll give it another listen this evening
to see if those issues are present in my copy. The second reason I
haven't played it since the initial ordering snafu, I already have
these tracks and was somewhat disappointed to have these live
versions.

Now, this is a great introduction for the new generation of fans that
witnessed their smashing performance at the festival or the other
young bucks out there. But for the vinyl veterans like myself that
already have a very complete collection of their material, this is
just a nice souvenir. I might even just re gift this to someone else
for the holidays.

hmm, yeah i am kind of concerned about this as well. its alright to
have some tracks mastered like that as an effect, but it can really
lead to a competition to have all music be as non-dynamic as possible.
this happened to drum and bass with their mastering and that stuff
sounds ridiculous now. why did DM go this way?

(313) Another Wild Kingdom Looms...

2007-12-07 Thread Richard Hester
The playlist for last week's Wild Kingdom can be found at
http://www.kfjc.org/music/playlist.php?i=29128. Not much there to see,
as last week's show was assembled using a fist full of locked groove
compilations from RRR Records, Serotonin, Staalplaat, and Syncom
Productions, for the most part (never did get to those CDs).
This coming show is another matter, with offerings from Generator,
Kompakt, Brainiak, Rephlex, Cocoon, Serotonin, Super 8, Nettwerk, and
more. The Wild Kingdom airs on KFJC-FM 89.7, Saturday night/Sunday
Morning, 12A-3A (7A-10A GMT). The webcast is at www.kfjc.org (follow the
links). Present and past playlists are also archived there. If you're
curious, you can also check out archived playlists from my first KFJC
show Just Desserts that aired on Fridays 10P-2A from 1992 through
1999. Playlists exist for that show starting from Fall 1995 to New
Year's Eve 1999/2000.

If you do tune in (especially via the web), please take a little time to
let me know your locale. I'm also interested in promos and in promoting
local (San Francisco Bay area) techno-type events. Thanks to those who
have sent promos so far.
