RE: (313) Felix Da Housecat
Yeah the wild pitch sound was on it's way out when rise from your grave dropped. The Phuture guys did release Spirit on Strictly Rhythm and Pierre dropped What Is House Muzik on Emotive a couple of years later but not much beyond that really came out. At least anything I've seen beyond that has just been repressing of the original classics. If anyone knows of any records I might have missed I'd love to hear about them! I think labels such as DJ Duke's Sex Trax and even DJAX-UP were partly to blame for the downfall. Duke was big on the wild pitch sound and DJAX-UP was big on the Chicago tip. From what I saw people jumped all over those imprints, me included. Unfortunately many of the projects were less melodic and more techno, which influenced many wild pitch producers to start cranking out banging techno records versus staying true to the original wild pitch style. Granted I liked the banging stuff, many other labels were already putting out techno of that nature so I personally didn't like to see the older Chicago producers who understood the Wild Pitch formula going that route. -Original Message- From: placid [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, July 23, 2004 8:49 AM To: 'Dan Kurzius'; 'Stewart Caig'; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: RE: (313) Felix Da Housecat I went to see dj Pierre in London when he was pioneering the wildpitch sound.. (313) John Tejada Playing in Atlanta!
Another down South event: Lifeform Project & Late Night Essentials Present // FILTER JOHN TEJADA // Palette Recordings, 7th City, Playhouse // LA Known for crafting a brand of subtle, musical techno, John Tejada's recorded output ranges across tempo and genre lines, from chilled out affairs with spacious arrangements to pulsating, densely layered, deeply energetic tracks that work magnificently in the hands of DJs as well as on the home stereo. Earlier on, his music found release on labels such as A13, Multiplex and Generation R&S. Following on to those successes, he established his own imprint, Palette, in Los Angeles, in 1996, and has enjoyed seven years of steady growth and recognition. The label has served as an exclusive outlet for his own prodigious output but has recently begun to expand its roster. He has also continued to record for other labels such as Plug Research, 7th City, Moods and Grooves, deFocus, Sino and others, often in collaboration with 12 year long collaborator Arian Leviste, and alongside these numerous singles, has also produced eight albums; two for A13, Palette and one each for deFocus, Plug Research, Moods and Grooves and Playhouse. (313) Dan Bell Playing in Atlanta!
For those of you in the Southern US: XLR8R Magazine, Lifeform Project & Late Night Essentials Present // FILTER DANIEL BELL (7th City, Logistic Records, Telegraph, Tresor // Detroit) Born in Sacramento, California, Daniel Bell grew up outside of Toronto, Canada, and then moved to Detroit where he collaborated with Richie Hawtin as Cybersonik for three years on Plus 8 Records. In 1991, he started his own label, Accelerate, on which he released his influential releases as DBX. Based on nearby Chicago "track" records, he reduced that sound further into funky, streamlined grooves. The formula proved to be successful and helped launch a new aesthetic in techno and house music known as "minimal". With the overwhelming success of his "Losing Control" single in 1994, Daniel set up 7th City Distribution in order to assist smaller Midwest labels to get distribution in overseas markets. He also created three new labels - 7th City, Elevate and Harmonie Park. In 2000, he relocated to Berlin, Germany, and released his first mix CD, The Button-Down Mind of Daniel Bell, on Tresor Records. He since has produced a series of remixes for a diverse range of artists, includng John Tejada, Pantytec, Akufen and John Thomas. He currently has a DJ residency at Robert Johnson in Frankfurt. i like to use wooden adjustable storage shelves. i'm talking about the ones that allow you to adjust shelf placement. once i set my shelves in place, i screw a 1x4 board under each to give the shelves a little extra stabiliy and keep records from wanting to slide out the back. you can buy fancy versions of these shelves at places like the container store or hit home improvement shops. they are all over the place. here's a pick www.latenightessentials.com/img/misc/records.jpg of 1 of my 3 set ups incase my explanation dosen't make sense... dK -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, March 11, 2003 2:54 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: (313) Where do you keep all your records? I agree with Minto, I've been using the Container store creates since the early 90's and they have held up the best from all that I have come across. They can be seen here http://www.containerstore.com/browse/Product.jhtml?PRODID=65121&CATID=166. Note they are stackable and have handles. I do suggest though if you pick some up you place 2 or 3 12x12 inch pieces of cardboard in the front and back of the records. This helps keep the records on the end very ridged over time. dK -Original Message- From: Minto George [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, September 17, 2002 11:19 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] record crates You can get those crates at The Container store here in the US. i'll see what i can dig up. the interview was done just after they released the cellular phone 7inch. nice but very strange guys, if i remember right their were three in the group at the time. they always answered their phone using different names. also always placed ads in hard sync that promoted some sort of strange pornographic government instead of their label or releases. i'm in the process of building out a site for my house label and will have old issues of hard sync archived on it when live. the interview will definitely be there if i can't send it out sooner. dK -Original Message- From: Minto George [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, February 04, 2002 9:22 AM To: 313@hyperreal.org Subject: [313] Heinrich and dopplereffekt My friend Dan Kurzius did a little write up on these guy(s) in his Hardsync zine. If you are using outlook as your mail client and are sent the virus with your the preview pane on, you will fire off the exe. RE: [313] MP3 to CD?
Sean, So to not confuse .cda is an indexing configuration file, note they always have a file weight of less then 1k = no audio content. Big companies do this to hide the wave files, makes copying commercial audio CDs not so easy with proper software. You won't need to worry about this, follow Kevin's directions to handle the conversion from MP3 to Wave and then jump into Adaptec easy CD 4.0+ or Nero as Dennis suggests to rip the CD. dK -Original Message- From: Dennis Donohue [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 24, 2001 4:10 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]; 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: [313] MP3 to CD? .cda is the file-extension for a cd playable wave file. Shepard Fairely is the man behind the creative, the group I'm referring to are the ones that help with postering printing etc. Shepard met them in/around Columbia SC when he lived in Charleston prior to moving to NY, sorry to confuse. My interest in this came about because the group I mention have a good ear for electronica and I think the minimalist nature of their posters parallels the style of music that this list is dedicated to. Sorry for trying to tap the creative side of all this, I truly ologize:( I was excited to see a reference to art of some nature hit this list. Visual interpretation to me is such an important factor as to why the Detroit genre of music even exists. Satellite records (www.satelliterecords.com) is pretty good because they update their site with new releases every week. It usually takes about 2 weeks for an order to be received. Also try www.611records.com. Their catalog tends to be little out of date, but not as bad as Sonic Groove's. My experience has been about 1.5-2 weeks for delivery. Were there any other labels that did release the May remix? Also, I seem to be missing out on a few digest versions of 313. Anyone out there on digests notice big gaps in between them? Vincent Floyd
Since you guys are taking about Chicago for a sec I thought I'd throw this one out. Anyone know of any other Vincent Floyd releases besides Cactus Juice and Chan "Your Eyes"? Or even better, anyone know what ever happened to Vincent? RE: [313] Jeff Mills and song id & Green Velvet
I think he made the switch to Cajmere for most dj gigs house and/or techno when he closed the doors on Cajual and used Green Velvet for live PA's. I recently purchased a mix cd by him on Under the Cajmere alias that is straight up techno. All of the stuff is quirky minimal Steve Rachmad / Rotation imprint sort of stuff. Past couple of live sets he has done down south were under the Velvet alias. dK -Original Message- From: Andrew Wilson [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Monday, April 02, 2001 10:18 PM To: Subject: RE: [313] Jeff Mills and song id & Green Velvet :::No, I have seen him many times over the years Djing as Green Velvet. :::It's a recent change the way I understand it. I Thought that : Cajmere = house (ie brighter days etc) & Green Velvet = Techno/tech house (ie stalker/preacher man) mind you having said that perculator is still very gv sounding and i think he released that as cajmere so i might shut up now but i'm still waiting to see him in any guise :( andrew - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
