Re: [313] T.Barnett?

first, i don´t think the deal with mr.davis is similar to the situation with
mr.Barnett, i never heard cybotron being referred to as strictly juan´s
project
it´s also pretty hard getting the facts thru the mediaheads, they just jump
on stuff, when someone is hot they all of a sudden scream that name every time
they encounter it and all others involved r unimportant. logical, because people
aren´t that interested in who did the tambourine on track 3 off the b-side.
And co-founder, what does that mean?
what does that say about someone´s musical influence...?
i just feel nude photo has derrick may´s signature written all over it... maybe
heavilly influenced by atkins earlier stuff.
that was my point basically...
all later stuff from mr barnett is nowhere near nude photo...
all derrick´s stuff is clearly similar...

Haye!

I can understand the anger because of the lack of credit for mr. barnett
for
creating transmat and being involved in a track like nude photo but let´s
keep
things in perspectiveso let´s seperate the discussions, how important
is
being credited for co-production and how much difference is there between
nude
photo and may´s later work...and how does this compare to mr Barnett´s
work. no
offence to mr. Barnett but let´s not make a myth out of this thing and
make it a
nice quote for some coffeetable book or sumtin

Well, it just seems to be some sort of a pattern, you know? Look at
Cybotron's Rick Davis. Where is he now? You see a lot of the people that
co-produced tracks or that had a great deal of influence disapear into
obscurity. And it's a record like Nude Photo we're talking about here, one
of the first records that came out that you could call Techno, so if Barnett
indeed had a part in the record, then he has a part in Detroit Techno
history... And if we think outside the artistic contribution, he's a
co-founder of Transmat, one of the base labels of Detroit Techno's growth.

Thomas Barnett ( Visillusion Rec.) advanced the cause
of techno by forming one of its most influential
labels, Transmat, with Derrick May. Not long after
Barnett began making music, he hooked up with May at
Detroit's legendary club, The Music Institute. The two
recorded Nude Photo, which launched the record
company, but Barnett later left to go back to college.
He continued recording while there, and upon his
return from hibernation, released Unconscious World
and Liquid Poetry on the Infonet label as Subterfuge

If youre talking about Thomas Barnet, then youre talking about one of the

 Not to sure
 what he's done recently though.

I haven't seen him for a while, but as of last year Thomas had a regular gig
at Pure in Detroit. Maybe he still does. You can also sometimes spot him
spinning at benefits/fashion shows around town.

The drama with Derrick runs thick and should not be re-visited here.

I'd like to know if there are any production plans in the works for T.
