Thank you everyone who responded. We tried to disable DEP and that did not solve the issue. The first time the issue arose, it looked like it was running as a service - (the status said it was running), but no one could log into the built server. Clients would receive a -10002 error. Because the application was needed for production and they were already down for a day+, they reverted back to Win 7. I'm looking into upgrading their application to the latest version of 4D. This list has been a wonderful resource during my many years of using 4D. I don't come here often, but when I do... I always find excellent advice. As always, my sincere thanks to all who share their knowledge. Because of the permissions issues that seem to be a permanent feature of Win 10 I install our built servers in the Public folder and have no permissions issues. Been doing this with 4D v13 for years. We run v13.5 on Win 10 on just not on the Server End. If you are running a 4D Server on Win 10 as opposed to Win Server, I would check that there was Windows where you had to open up ports in the Win Fire Wall and also allow for Code Execution from a separate file. Windows 10 has tightened security. Someone else suggested checking to make sure structure and data file are not set to read only. I would also recommend trying to run as Admin. (Right click on 4D server app, select “run as Admin” and select structure). I have used v13.6 on Windows 10 and Windows Server 2012. 4D Server, 4D Standalone. Even EOM Builds work. Hi Ken Standalone 4D. Standard server - client Both fine. Not used a built server I'm afraid. All 4D versions from 2003 up work under Win 10 for me. Along with most Windows server versions. Not tried them all. Some older plug in issues. Some need DEP setting, but that caused 4D to fail to start entirely - no error message. Some UI issues in older versions but nothing serious. Thank you for responding. The structure and data files are NOT set to Read Only. They are read-write. Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss... Does this maybe mean the Structure is locked? Restart the computer to release any hold Windows has on it. Get Properties and change Permissions as needed. The settings --> Database --> Temporary Folder Location is not set and the radiobutton of the 3 choices, the middle one, is set: Data File Folder. Current (location) is empty, as is Choose a folder line. However the folder "Temporary" I encounter in my Data File Folder ( is where I have the structure & datafile and the Resource Folder ) is empty. I do find the .temp file in the Resource Folder. Have you looked at "Design -> Database Settings -> Database -> Temporary Folder Location”? I noticed this the other day as well. Did not pay much attention to it, but will do so. I think, in fact, that what I saw was not a 4D thing but had something to do with saving a PDF to file from the print dialog. It may have been from 4D, but I don’t think so. Came across a weird behavior and want to know if anyone else has encountered this and how to solve this (mac & V13.6 & v15) I use a document (“StoreHere.txt") in the Resources folder to store some data in it, to be used later. After using the command Export Text, the document is ‘updated’ allright BUT there is a .temp file with a long filename (“07B29AA87F90481387491D4EEF206BB6.temp”) ALSO created in that Resource folder. But this is not wanted because every time the export is performed a new file with long name is created !! It does this ONLY with High Sierra (10.13.4), none of the previous mac os X has this (I tested this). (fyi: 4D v15 & up do not exhibit this behavior with os 10.13.4 ) Have a test db V13.6 with 1 table and 1 or 2 fields (doesn’t matter how many) and 2 or more records.
