I had something like that, yes, and it looke pretty fine here through
gv, but then I looked at a pdf-version on a mac...:-( Top of page missing
both on screen and paper... *That's* what I don't get and am asking for. I
have no problem finding nice settings here, but apparently a pdf is not a
pdf as I assumed... I must admit I don't understand the inner workings of
neither abcm2ps, postscript, gv, ps2pdf or pdf, but it must be possible to
produce a single pdf that will print beautifully on any platform.
Otherwise they should change PDF into DF...

Do you want to know what I did?

I never made skink work on Kaffe; when I've run it it's been by
downloading a JRE from sun, and I agree I wouldn't do it over a slow
connection.

I tried also to modify this, but I couldn't, there were always too
much margin on top (My problem was that I didn't use pageheight or
pagewidth at all and my margins were additionned (I think) with
the default ones). After your post I tried again (I don't like to
waste space and paper) and I think I've found the solution :

  pageheight29.7cm
  pagewidth 21cm
  topspace 0.00
  topmargin 0.50cm %or less...
  botmargin 1.00cm
  leftmargin1.00cm
  rightmargin 1.00cm

If you use 27.94cm instead of 29.7cm (for A4) you'll get too much
space on top (try using 49cm instead and you have the opposite,
tunes are "going out" on top).
Do the same for 21cm instead of 21.59cm and the staffs are now
centered.

It's also possible to define the default values in config.h and
then recompile abcm2ps

yes, why not ? It's a good idea. Even if I can use runabc.tcl for
this the ability for Skink as proof read and listen give something
more. But for me runabc.tcl runs both on linux and windows, and I
can't make Skink works on linux. I've Mandrake 8.2 and they seem
to have forgotten to give us a decent / recent JRE. I wonder how
Atte Andre Jensen
managed to make it run because he has also a Mandrake and they
give only an old java console, called Kaffe. I can't download the
latest JRE because I've only a slow connection. (If I had an ADSL,
quick connection why should I bother to download all those abc
files ? I would download music in MP3 format instead ! ;) )

[abcusers] page layout in abcm2ps

2002-06-08 Thread Atte Andre Jensen

I decided I wanted to create an efficient layout using the whole page
(A4) in abcm2ps, but there are some things I just can't figure out. The
fact that my printer is dead doesn't make it easier...

I used to have

  pageheight27.94cm
  pagewidth 21.59cm
  scale 0.65
  topspace 0.00cm
  topmargin 2.00cm
  botmargin 1.00cm

But that left the upper 2cm and lower 4cm blank, but now changing stuff
around I totally don't understand the behaviour. The software involved is
abcm2ps, ps2pdf and ghostview under linux.

Could someone inform me *exactly* settings will make abcm2ps fill the
A4-paper as much as possible???
