[AI] New Chip Set for Ultra Mobile PCs
New Chip Set for Ultra Mobile PCs Friday, July 07, 2006 Via Technologies has launched a new chip set it says will help reduce the size of ultra mobile PCs by as much as 40 percent. The company said its VX700 chip set works with its own Via C7-M microprocessors aimed at small devices. A chip set is the pair of chips that regulate the flow of data from the microprocessor to other chips inside a device, such as memory and graphics chips. Via slimmed down the size of its new VX700 chip set by integrating the north and south bridges of the set into a single package measuring 35 by 35 mm, the company said in a statement. The chip sets will be available in mass quantities late in the third quarter, Via said. It did not disclose pricing. The chip sets coupled with the Via C7-M microprocessor are designed to reduce power consumption and save battery life in ultra mobile PCs, Via said. Microsoft launched the ultra mobile PC concept earlier this year. Originally dubbed Origami , the devices were designed to contain the power of a full PC in a gadget small enough to be carried in a pocket, purse or backpack. DualCor Technologies, which is based in Scotts Valley, California, said it used the VX700 chip set and C7-M microprocessor to create a new device that adds mobile phone functionality to an ultra mobile PC. The company did not say when the device would be launched. Regards Shadab __ Yahoo! India Answers: Share what you know. in my view, in supplement to the catalogue it may be interesting to conduct demos of a few advanced assistive products at a platform decided by this group. may be we could invite digital or physical presentations from organisations such as NFB, Kurzweil, etc. to display their technology at any next convention. regards, muffi - Original Message - From: amritpal [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Thursday, July 06, 2006 10:31 PM Subject: [AI] Latest catalog of aids and appliances-available or not? [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Dear Members, I know here on this list there are many excel specialists. Though I don't have any mastery over excel, I use this application for a very limited purposes like preparing the internal assessment for my college students and I find it very useful for this purpose. I just wanted to know one very minute clarification, that is, how do we restrict the formula results to only two digits after dot. Suppose, after some calculations, if the result displayed is, 75.318654, how can we restrict to only two digits, that is, 75.32. Re: [AI] Startup Problem.
Hi Amiyo Actually what happens is that our hard disk gets worked up considerably using the software synthesizer. We can't do much about that. When we do or formatting, it works on a higher level and does not format throughly. You will need to do a low level formatting. There are utilities which will do that, besides, you can use the BIOS also to do it. You may need sighted help for it. I can suggest that, you get yourself a second hard disk. A home system can have 2 physical hard disk. Place the OS in the first disk and the swap file in the second hard disk. This way you will have less probs and also easy for you to maintain. Dear Asif. It is a bitter truth that the corporates are reluctant to offer direct employment to vision impaired persons, they may provide indirect employment by way of giving job work to a group.A small scale industry has done this in Mumbai. The employment department of national association for the blind India has recently started a work centre where ten blind friends are doing assembly work of various plastic molded articles. though it is good that we are getting jobs and so on but I do not think we worry much about those who are educated or rather I think we need to now focus on this subject seriously or else the frustrations of these individuals will be immense. We must use our contacts to convince the corporates to give blind employment for let us face it the amount of money earned by the blind through these indirect means is very less and we cannot take pride in this by saying that something is better than nothing. - Original Message - From: Suhas Karnik [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Saturday, July 08, 2006 9:04 PM Subject: Re: [AI] CII (confederations of Indian Industries ) role document Dear Asif. [AI] strange problem with internet
Hi guys, I have been facing a strange problem for last two days or so. My internet connection works fine for 10 minutes or so and I can open websites all right. After some time no websites open while all other services like messengers and MS outlook keep working fine and mails are downloaded, and I can chat with people just normally. What could be the reason for this strange phinominon? I had been running a firewall and an anti spy ware programs which I had to uninstall for some reason. After uninstalling, I had to do a system restore because of a serious error in windows explorer. After doing all this I started getting this error. Try the following to copy and paste the same formula in multiple cells. 1. Place your focus on the cell from which you want to copy the formula and the number formats. 2. Press Ctrl+C to copy. 3. Select the cells in which you want to paste. 4. Go to Edit on the Menu Bar and arrow down to Paste Special. Press enter on the Paste Special option. 5. A dialog box will open containing a series of radio buttons. Arrow down through the radio buttons till you come to the button titled Formulas and Number Formats. 6. [AI] Blind boy robbed of stick, money for books
Blind boy robbed of stick, money for books PRASUN BHATTACHARYA Tarak Chandra: Harrowing tale. Picture by Sanjoy Chattopadhyaya A blind boy from a poor family, who cleared his Madhyamik, had collected Rs 130 with great difficulty and was coming to Calcutta to buy books for the Higher Secondary course he had just enrolled in. He dozed off on a Sealdah-bound local train on Friday morning. When he woke up, he found not just his money, but also his walking stick missing. Nineteen-year-old Tarak Chandra had been robbed of his dire need - the stick, without which he could barely stumble along - and his dream - the Rs 130, without which he could not take the first steps towards becoming a teacher and helping blind boys and girls. He broke down on reaching Sealdah station. Seeing him weeping, a Samaritan stepped up to hold his hand and set off a chain of events that finally saw the blind boy returning home safe, with the books he was so desperately seeking. Tarak, a resident of Guma, in North 24-Parganas, and a student of arts at Habra High School, left home early on Friday. He was headed for the language academy of Lok Siksha Parishad, at Narendrapur, to buy his books. Having lost his father early, Tarak's only source of support is his mother, who earns Rs 300 a month working as a cook for a family in their neighbourhood. I dozed off on a Bongaon local on my way to Sealdah, Tarak recalled. Suddenly, I woke up and found my walking stick, that was lying on my lap, and the money in my shirt pocket missing. I can't walk without the stick. Helped by a man, I managed to reach the crowded taxi stand at Sealdah, but failed to move any further. It was at the taxi stand that Basudev Sadhukhan, a resident of Tollygunge, saw Tarak weeping and went up to him. He was looking devastated. I had to help him, Sadhukhan later said. He took Tarak to Lighthouse for the Blind, a school on SP Mukherjee Road in the Tollygunge area, from where Tarak had appeared for his Madhyamik. I decided to go to my school and seek help from my former teachers. But, unfortunately, no one was there, Tarak said. Sadhukhan then took him to Tollygunge police station, nearby. When he was brought here, he was shivering and crying, said sub-inspector Subhojit Sen. Sen contacted NGO Hive India, which took the boy to its office, bought him the books and cassettes he needed, and dropped him home. I thank all those who helped me when I had given up hope, said Tarak. Source The Telegraph July 8th To unsubscribe send a message to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the subject unsubscribe. Re: [AI] EXCEL QUERY
Thanks Sameer once again but this didn't solve the problem this time. By doing this, it is pasting only in the cell where I'm standing, it is not dragging for all 60 students. That simply means each time I have to repeat my action. If this be the case, then what is the difference between paste and paste special? Another thing that I would like to ask is that when I convert to 2 decibels, my result comes .1% less than the actual result. However, when in the option, in the calculation tab, I check the box, which says precision as displayed, then the accurate result comes but before I press the ok button after clearing that box, it says, all data will permanently lose accuracy!. What does that mean? In my case, instead of losing, it is giving me more precise accuracy, ha ha ha!
The Paste function will paste everything from the source cell to the destinationn cell including formulas and formats. Using the Paste Special function, you can choose only a certain characteristic from the source cell to the destination cell. For example, you can use the Paste Special command to paste only formats, or only formulas while retaining the original formatting of the destination cell. For the 60 students, select the entire range of cells where you want to paste and then do the Paste Special. As regards the Precision calculation, I will have to put on my thinking cap and do some investigation. Regards Sameer --- Vikas Kapoor [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Thanks Sameer once again but this didn't solve the problem this time. Go to Edit on the Menu Bar and arrow down to Paste Special. Press enter on the Paste Special option. 5. A dialog box will open containing a series of radio buttons. Arrow down through the radio buttons till you come to the button titled Formulas and Number Formats. 6. Select the Formulas and Number Formats radio button and press OK. This should paste the formula and the number format of 2 decimal places in all the destination cells. Suppose, after some calculations, if the result displayed is, 75.318654, how can we restrict to only two digits, that is, 75.32. [AI] Microsoft enters `open' waters
Microsoft enters `open' waters Anand Parthasarathy Offers new tool to convert files Key contribution from Pune-based engineers of Aztecsoft Microsoft promises converter for Excel, Powerpoint by year end Bangalore: Microsoft embraces an `open' standard? Sounds like one of those April Fools Day jokes that some members of the media play on readers. But this is no joke. In a path-breaking initiative for the company whose operating software Windows, and productivity suite Office dominate the personal computing world, it is offering a tool that will help users convert their files to the `free-and-open' standard known as Open Document Format (ODF). On Friday, the Redmond (Washington), U.S.-based software helped place in the public domain, a converter between its proprietary Office Open XML (for eXtended Markup Language) format and ODF standard adopted by all Open Source software makers including the rival OpenOffice.org suite created by Sun Microsystems. The tool has been placed at SourceForge the Web's main clearing house for Open software. Currently the free download available at http://sourceforge.net/projects/odf-converter is limited to Word documents created by using Microsoft's Office 2007 version. Since this is only available as a beta or test version, its immediate utility is limited. But Microsoft has promised that by year-end it will be beefed up with offerings for converting Excel spreadsheets and Powerpoint presentations as well - and what's more, there will be upgrade packs for users of older versions of Office. The Hindu learns that key elements of Microsoft's offering - including a thorough end-to-end functional testing - were delivered by Pune-based engineers of an Indian software partner - Aztecsoft. The company has developed software for over 100 Internet Service Vendors worldwide, from its development labs in Bangalore and Pune. For the Converter project Aztecsoft had to dovetail its work with two other software partners of Microsoft, based in France and Germany. Speaking to The Hindu on Saturday, Aztecsoft's Vice President for the Bangalore Delivery Centre, Ravi Bala said: We were engaged to develop testing strategy and plans to complete the interoperability initiative announced by Microsoft. The project will add innovative value to the end-user community... We are very pleased to be part of this global initiative. While Web logs record Microsoft's first step into Open waters or jokingly refer to it as a case of Sleeping with the Enemy - recalling the title of a popular Hollywood film - analysts say this is merely pragmatism on the part of the software giant who has seen the way the `garam hawa' of Open Source is blowing and doesn't want its own users to be isolated by format barriers. ---The Hindu National Page---. [AI] Google Earth worries ISRO chief
Google Earth worries ISRO chief Agencies | New Delhi The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) chief has expressed concern at high resolution satellite images offered by Google and said authorities should hold a dialogue with it over the display of imagery of some of the country's sensitive locations. ...Some of the places, they have collected images from foreign satellites and that comes to one metre (resolution) and better. For example if you take Bangalore or Delhi, they have given fine pictures -- which normally one is not supposed to do, ISRO chief G Madhavan Nair said on NDTV's Walk the Talk show. Google Earth, a website launched by the Internet search engine last year, allows users to access the satellite photos. I think our defence agencies should be worried about it. They have to work out some method by which we can (do something)...We need not display anything, Nair remarked. Several governments, including South Korea and Thailand, have expressed similar concerns. We have to have a dialogue with them, convince them that in the global interest, especially the security environment that we are facing today, we should not be putting fine details on a public domain, Nair said when asked how Google can be stopped from displaying images of sensitive locations. ---The Pioneer Front Page---.
