[AI] Net Books usability accessibility.
Hi folks ! Appreciate if you could share your experiences using Netbooks. What I am specifically interested in knowing are : 1. Usability of the small keyboard. Does the smaller size tax us too heavily in terms of strain to the fingers, especially if used for long durations ? 2. While using Jaws, what keyboard layout needs to be configured to give the best results ? (viz. laptop, classic laptop etc) 3. Does the lesser processing power of the Atom processor adversely impact performance while running Windows 7, Jaws and MS Office applications simultaneously ? 4. Re: [AI] My experience in our judisial system!
Dear Friends, I think I have commented on this matter earlier. this matter indicates how important it is to take up the matter before court only after going through the relevant laws, rules on the subject and under consultation with some one having experience in handling disability related cases or having atleast primary knowledge about it. Many cases came before us at such prolonged stages where people were kicked out on medical grounds and writ petitions got repeatedly dismissed referring to some departmental medical rules and non-suitability alone! While no party invoked Section 47 of PWD Act, not even the judges utter any words of wisdom!! I find that in the present case, the relief sought each time was not focused on the real wrong and the hammer was never on the anvil but just around here and there. Also all the relevant issues were not taken up before appropriate authority. The courts could have taken cognizance of it but the trend is that even judges do not go beyond the relief sought by the petitioner in writs seeking redressal of a right to an individual, unless it is a Public Interest Litigation. Many times, the affected party himself is not aware of rules governing his employment and often cases are filed on the mis-perceived injustice based on half baked information given out in narration to the advocates who may not be aware of the existing rules and laws on the subject. Courts go by documentation, evidences which prima facie show a cause of action. If you failed to impress upon your cause of action, you can't blame the judge for that! When you file a new writ, you are bound to indicate that you had earlier filed a writ which was dismissed and also attach the earlier orders an annexures. This makes the judges think that the party is a habitual and chronic complainant and they tend to get negative towards the petitioner. This case has become a chronic illness kind and you know how difficult it is to treat a chronic illness which develops immunity to so many medicines!! Also the principle of Res Judicata restricts you to take up cases on the same grounds which have been already taken in earlier proceedings. However, I suggest the following: (a) All representations to the respondents and their replies should become part of the petition and if the replies are not as per law, such impugned orders etc should also be challenged.. (b) Besides seniority, did you say that the post stands identified for the Blind and no reservation was provided to them and all the posts were given away to other disabilities? (c) Did you challenge the roster which would have indicated the discrimination and apathy shown towards the VH and that it was lopsided to the benefit of OH Category only. Did you further allege that it further reinforces the myth and allows the whims of the officers of the Labour department that blind are not suitable for the post in question? May be you can challenge the suitability part now and show that the department's view is erroneous so far as suitability of blind for the said post is concerned. But again that may not give you the post. The court may issue direction, if satisfied to open the post for the blind too through open competition and not necessarily to you alone. However, it doesn't stop you from challenging the the wrong notion of suitability of blind for the post. May be that you clear the hurdles for the post better than others in fray. regards 2009/11/8 Subject: My experience in our judisial system Dear Friends, The following mail is from a Visually Challenged friend's, who brings out the difficulty faced by him before the Madras High Court. Re: [AI] Net Books usability accessibility.
Dear Friend, 1. The small keyboard of the netbook requires some practice in order to get used to the smaller sized keys. But once you are used to the keyboard, working on a netbook instead of a normal sized laptop does not result in any additional strain. 2. I use the laptop setting with JAWS on my netbook. This setting seems to work better than the Classic Laptop setting. 3. I have used JAWS in combination with Office 2007 Internet Explorer simultaneously on the netbook. Re: [AI] information needed about banking exam
Hi Rules regarding scribe: 1. The scribe should be one grade lesser than the stipulated eligibility criteria required for the post. In the case of SBI clerical, the stipulated eligibility is 12th class. So, the scribe should not have completed 12th class. 2. The scribe should not have got more than 60% marks in his own academic stream i.e., in tenth class or 11th class. 3. The scribe should not have got more marks than the candidate in 10th or 11th class. That means, if the candidate has scored more than 60% marks, the scribe should not have scored more than 60% marks. And if the candidate has not scored 60% marks, the scribe should not have scored more marks than the candidate. The main rationale is to make sure that the scribe is not more intelligent than the candidate. I hope I didn't confuse you further with my explanation. Figures and diagrams: VH persons are exempted from attempting those questions. We would be allotted those marks in proportionate to what we have scored in other questions. -- G. Re: [AI] Net Books usability accessibility.
It varries from brand to brand. For example, I use HP mini PC and it's keyboard is just like a notebook. What they have basically done is to remove the row containing insert/delete/page up/down keys. Instead of these they have added additional functions to the function key. E.G. Function+up aero = home, Function+ rite aero = End etc. I think netbooks from now on will carry windows 7 and so for they mostly are designed for Windows XP since Windows vista may be too much for an intel adam processer. Since I have an external hard drive, I do not require too much of internal hard drive and henceforth I chose one with a solid space. It means that you will not have a moveing hard drive there by minimising crashing of your hard drive. More significantly, it is very lite and henceforth easy to carry. Vetri. Dear Sir, Well first of all not aware of your problem because have not gone through the original post and this one contains only few replies. But looking at this reply makes me believe that you are looking for SKYPE 4 scripts. So, visit this link and download the latest revision available. However, 4.1 really doesn't have accessibility problem as such. But for sure, 3.8 was far better and user friendly. Anyways, get it from: http://users.visi.com/~dgl/skype/ If you wish to look for scripts in future, either keep this link or visit jaws-users.com. I don't think you should worry about it too much, he told a member of the audience at the B.M. Birla Science Centre here on Monday. Hello Vamashi: Well explained. In some cases, the candidates have been rejected since the qualification of his scribe has been 10th class, and the candidate's qualification has been the graduation. So what to be done in such cases? Say suppose, I've applied as a graduate, my scribe's qualification is 10th since the eligibility of the scribe should be one grade less than the stipulated criteria. So what to be done if i'm rejected since the qualification of the scribe is not intermediate instead of 10th class? Well, what should be criteria for an exam where the minimum qualification is class VIII? Is it possible for a child of class VII to act as scribe properly? - Original Message - From: Vamshi. G gvamsh...@gmail.com To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Sent: Monday, November 09, 2009 8:23 PM Subject: Re: [AI] information needed about banking exam Hi Rules regarding scribe: 1. Dear Experts, Sorry for not giving this post a proper subject. Straightaway coming to the point: I need to create an autoscript, which will coppy my modified file into pen drive as soon as it gets modified. Let me make it clear. I am giving exams on computer. So, I will save one copy of the answer sheet on hard drive, and the other on pen drive after every few minutes. This is to insure that I do not loos my data in any case. For this purpose, I am thinking of using xcopy command and autorun file. The only thing which I am not able to solve is that can we define the minutes or something which will let the script understand that it has to copy the files instantly to pen drive as soon as it gets save again? Yes, I will be saving it after every answer. I know /m with xcopy will copy modified file, but I don't know how to set time limit or something of that nature. Because simply creating autorun file with the script will copy only when pen drive is inserted. Needless to say, detailed and quick response will be expected. Regards Amar Jain. Hi Govind, The bank has no right to reject the scribe in that case as the guideline says that the scribe should be one grade lesser than that of the stipulated eligibility criteria required for the post and not the qualification of the candidate. They allowed me to write the exam. Not only me, when I talked to some my co-recruits with PG qualification, I found that their cases were not different. I would suggest you to look for Universal Book on DJS Examination which fairly covers the course. You may buy it by pooling in and scanning it for the use by all. Also in case you guys are keen on coming over to Delhi and stay here for a month (Full December) or as per your mutual convenience, We can plan for regular coaching. I have spoken to a mainstream coaching institute also with whom we could bargain for the some good discount for the group. I would be eager to support by contributing my evening time for your preparation here in Delhi. We might need little support in accessible format etc which I think we will manage here. If you come forward, support will follow! With best wishes to all the four and to the new ones who wish to join this brigade. No stopping now! regards 2009/11/10 Rahul Kelapure rkelap...@gmail.com Hi Friends: this seems a great apportunity and I am planning to apear for this exam. shortly I am going to look for the apropriate study metirial and hit the ground. in case any of you are intrested or any one whom you know is, then please encorrage them for this. also let us join hands and do some collective action while preparing study matirial in accessable format, i.e. scanning, which shall help all of us. requesting for your responces please, it is a golden apportunity. thanks. Hi Subhash, What is the upper age limit of this? One of my friends is also interesting for the same, but the age limit can restrict him. He is in Delhi. Request all of you to first go through the detailed advertisement on the blog link. Then if still there is any doubt, would be happy to clarify! Sweety, the age limit should be relaxable by 10 years for disabled candidates and by 15 years in case of SC/ST with disability. -- Warm regards, Subhash Chandra Vashishth Mobile: +91 (11) 9811125521 Please don't print this e-mail unless you really need to.
