[AI] Information needed from visually impaired of Kerala state.

2010-05-08 Thread govind reddy
Dear list members,
I've heard on ETV that a boy called Akilesh from the state of Kerala
has invented a set of spectacles to help the visually impaired
visualise the objects with a sound.
These spectacles which appear as the normal once, work with the help
of a battery attached to the belt that we ware on our waist.
It just gives us a sound if an object is detected while we walk on the
road. In other words, it just replaces the white cane we use to walk
on the roads.
It could be a great help if it really works well.
It just costs us only Rs 250.
The boy belongs to a very poor family and spent a great deal of money
to invent this particular device.
Therefore, he's unable to market this device properly.
Has any one from Kerala state possess some information on this?
One more thing is that he is ready to modify it if required.
Therefore, I want to buy this device and encourage him to invent many
more devices like this.
If any one from Kerala has some info on this, please share it with the list.
Also send me the address and phone numbers of that boy if possible.
I'm ready to buy the same and use it.
If it works well, my dream of walking with out a cane will be realised.
Any help and information in this regard will greatly be appriciated.
Thanking you,

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we

 Hi all,
I completely see eye to eye with Rajesh sir’s views regarding the
formation of new committee to draft new Law for the disabled. If it’s
possible, we must make sincere attempts to reach the Committee
members. We can make individual efforts but if it’s possible we must
make united efforts for this very important cause.

Why wait for the draft to be made public and then put in efforts at

Let's try to reach the committee and it's members with views, demands,
suggestions etc. now itself. I don't know how Mr. Suhas Karnik got
this news, but if it is public to all, then take this to the media now
itself along with our recommendations. Let's write personal letters
to the persons concerned and sensitise them about the need of the
  hour.

In a lighter note, we all know betting is there in IPL. It got to
Access India also!!! And most of the betting is done by the legal
  fraternity
In a more serious note, our learned friends have an idea about the
time frames required for amendments and inceptions of laws and hence
are giving us an idea about the practicality. As a lay man, I thought
the new law would come into force in months. Their betting has made
me think more realistically. Thank you.

Friends,

Greetings!

Its great that the MSJE has announced for a new law. But we need clarity on the
following:

1. One New Law instead of 4 Laws.
2. The profile of the members on the committee for new law announced and
whether the constitution of the committee will reflect the concept of cross
disability and will upheld the principle of UNCRPD in letter and spirit.

The sector need to work on :

1. Lobby with MSJE for more clarity and public notification on the proposed New
Law and its processes.
2.Lobby to get in our choice of representatives in case if we find the
committee to be under / un represented.

Lets join hands and work towards optimum utilisation of the opportunity

Thanks and Regards

ASP .Net looks good from employment perspective. You can build ASP .Net web
sites using Visual Studio, the Integrated Development Environment. Java is
also a good candidate for that matter. But for beginners, I feel C++ would
be of great help. It helps understand OOPS concepts quite well. Maybe people
willing to learn can give more thought to this.

[AI] provisions for issuing lic policies for PWDs

2010-05-08 Thread mukesh jain
hello list,
this time I seek for your valuable opinion on my below mentioned
query. This is related to LIC policy ffor the persons with
disabilities.

In this connection, I would like to know that :
1 once I submit my proposal to any LIC agent how much time it takes
place ffor the LIC to issue the policy to the persons with visual
impairment?
2 what are the procedures for ggrievances and redressals for not
issuing the policy without giving any reasons?
3 do we have to submit our medical report through the prescribed lic
doctor ffor eye check up? If yes, what are the conditions for getting
rejected in such medical test?

I am raising these queries because recently I have been facing
certain problems to apply for LIC policy.

Few days back, I have applied ffor one policy through LIC called
jeevansaral. I have submitted my all required documents including
proof of residence, photo identity, disability cerrttifficatte and
passport size photograph. I have handed over these documents to LIC
agent and filled up the proposal form for the aforesaid policy. On
enquiring about medical test, my agent informed me that you need not
appear for any medical test as you have already submitted your
certificate of disability. But after few days, my agent asked me to
come to doctor for medical test. So I have appeared ffor two tests,
one ffor body check up and another for eye check up.

Out of these two tests, doctor taking body check up test immediately
completed all the required formalities and when my agent took me to
another doctor for eye check up the doctor refused to proceed with
eye check up as they informed that they are not authorized to give the
recommendations for lic policies. So we had to run around several
such opthomologists but all in vain for same reasons. At last, one
doctor checked my eyes and prepared the eye report but without making
any signatures or seals.

My agent informed me that we need not worry as we will get it done
in few days. But when I have not received any replies from my agent I
have immediately applied for refund of my proposal amount to lic and
took back the said amount from lic. While taking the refunds, I got to
learn from the manager of the lic branch that my agent has not kept up
to date her targets hence, you were not been able to get your policy
till now and on his recommendations, I applied once again for the same
policy with other agent. But to my surprise, this ttime too I am not
able to get proper reply either through agency or my agent. As per my
agent information, these kind of cases such as, issuing policy to the
persons with disability especially to blind persons are of critical
nature hence, it takes lot of ttime. As per my agency information on
the other hand, my papers are not yet submitted to branch for putting
up proposal.

So I am very confused about this situations and hence, requesting you
to kindly advice me in this matter. I have narrated this incidence in
detail so as to give clear view and to seek valuable advice from the
learned members on the list.

Your kind cooperation in this regard would be highly obliged.
Thanks,

Dear Srinivasu

I would suggest asp or dot net asp

Python is good, however it is indentation sensitive.
This could be an irritant for the beginner who could easily get zapped with
otherwise the code being correct.

With ASP and dot net ASP there is no overhead. You can make your PC as a
webserver to practise to your hearts content. All you need is the modest
notepad to write your code which is bundled with the OS anyways.

It is easy to learn and you become proficient in programming on the web
based platform.

Harish.

Although, it will be problem of understanding for some, I really
suggest that we use NVDA as screen reader as it is free and open
source and easy to procure when someone seeks employment.

Also, I may agree with someone and let's start with Python so that we
can also contribute to NVDA,

Re: [AI] provisions for issuing lic policies for PWDs

2010-05-08 Thread Vamshi. G
Hi Mukesh,

I've taken a LIC policy without any problems and without any additional premium.
I've clearly mentioned that I'm visually handicapped and submitted my
disability certificate along with the application.

So, there is no provision which debars a blind person from taking a LIC policy.

One of our friends on the list, Mr. Amilesh Kumar, who is working as
an administrative officer in LIC will be able to help us with the
exact details.
