1. Take sighted assistance, and convert all the books into word or rtf format.

2. Try to install a later version of Kurzweil.

3. Try to see if any settings of Kurzweil have been changed unintentionally.

If you don't find any solution, upload all the material, and I shall
convert them into word or rtf format for you.

[AI] Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless

2010-09-17 Thread Vikas Kapoor
Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless
September 16, 2010 18:11 IST
The tangled chargers could soon be a thing of past, as Japanese scientists have
developed a system that would allow you recharge your mobile phones and laptops
wirelessly.

Developed by Japanese technology firm Fujitsu [ Get Quote ], the system is
capable of simultaneously charging multiple portable electronic devices such as
mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for cable
connections.

According to the company, electric cars users may also eventually be able to
charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same system that will be available
by 2012.

Fujitsu has recently unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of
Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka
Prefecture University.

This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging
functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be
charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with respect
to the charger, the company said in a statement.

Claiming to be the world's first of its kind, the technology works on the basis
of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the charger
and the electronic device.

The system enables wireless charging at distances of up to several metres, with
the ultimate aim of installing public charging spots on the streets in order
to enable easy charging around the clock, the Telegraph reported.

Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories are planning to commercially sell products
incorporating the new wireless charging system as early as 2012 but did not
disclose how much they would cost.

The company hopes that the soaring popularity of portable electronic devices
ranging from iPads to e-readers is expected to fuel a boom in wireless
recharging technology developments over the coming decade.

Mobile phone users in Japan [ Images ] can currently top up their batteries
using disposable portable plug-in battery-operated devices available at most
train stations and convenience stores although phone companies warn prolonged
use can damage the phones.

The new system by Fujitsu, however, is significantly more sophisticated and
represents the next generation of portable recharging systems using highly
tuned wireless technology.

The company added: We are also looking at applying the results of this work to
fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission between
circuit boards or computer chips, and providing mobile charging systems for
electric cars.

It of course is very funny that, you can
arange accomodation for local participants and not for others. If you are not
responsible for the arangement of accomodation for those who

would be coming from the places other than Poonay, then in the 1st place you
should not organise such event which you are not capable of. Now since you
have organised it, you should not take trouble of inviting those members who
are not the residents of this city.

Re: [AI] Enjoy Mahabaleshwar picnic on the first anniversary ofRetinaIndia organized by RI Chapter, Pune.

2010-09-17 Thread Rohiet A. Patil

Hello!
Please don't misunderstand my statement. There is no question of arranging
accomodation for local participants. It's a one day trip so that I am not
talking regarding the accomodation during the picnic, I mean to say that
they will have to arrange accomodation for previous night. Because
ofcourse we are starting early in the morning at 7 A.M. and obviously
outside participants can not reach at that time.

Hope you understand what I mean to say.
Thanks and regards,
Rohiet Patil

It of course is very funny that, you can
arange accomodation for local participants and not for others. If you are
not responsible for the arangement of accomodation for those who
would be coming from the places other than Poonay, then in the 1st place
you

should not organise such event which you are not capable of. Now since you

Also check if the Active Speech option is somehow disabled. You can find
this option in the Settings menu, General or Configuration dialogue box.
Similarly, check which speech engine is selected in the Settings menu,
Voices dialogue box for both the reading and system voice. Try selecting a
different speech engine.

windows live. My internet connection is working fine but still I am
unable to sign in to windows live. It says, the password you have
entered is incorrect, or the e-mail does not exist. But after half/an
hour I am able to sign in to windows live. Any suggestions?

Re: [AI] Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless

2010-09-17 Thread surya narayana
Hello sir,
nice info. please keep it up.

On 9/17/10, Vikas Kapoor dl.vi...@gmail.com wrote:
Now, recharge your mobile phone via wireless
 September 16, 2010 18:11 IST
The tangled chargers could soon be a thing of past, as Japanese scientists
have developed a system that would allow you recharge your mobile phones and
 laptops wirelessly.

Developed by Japanese technology firm Fujitsu [ Get Quote ], the system is
capable of simultaneously charging multiple portable electronic devices such
as mobile phones, digital cameras and laptop computers without the need for
 cable connections.

According to the company, electric cars users may also eventually be able
to charge their vehicles wirelessly using the same system that will be
 available by 2012.

Fujitsu has recently unveiled a prototype system at an Institute of
Electronics, Information and Communication Engineers conference at Osaka
 Prefecture University.

This technology paves the way to integrating compact wireless charging
functions into mobile phones and enabling multiple portable devices to be
charged simultaneously without any restrictions on their position with
respect to the charger, the company said in a statement.

Claiming to be the world's first of its kind, the technology works on the
basis of the transmission of electricity using magnetic fields between the
 charger and the electronic device.

The system enables wireless charging at distances of up to several metres,
with the ultimate aim of installing public charging spots on the streets
in order to enable easy charging around the clock, the Telegraph reported.

Scientists at Fujitsu Laboratories are planning to commercially sell
products incorporating the new wireless charging system as early as 2012 but
did not disclose how much they would cost.

The company hopes that the soaring popularity of portable electronic devices
ranging from iPads to e-readers is expected to fuel a boom in wireless
recharging technology developments over the coming decade.

Mobile phone users in Japan [ Images ] can currently top up their batteries
using disposable portable plug-in battery-operated devices available at most
train stations and convenience stores although phone companies warn
prolonged use can damage the phones.

The new system by Fujitsu, however, is significantly more sophisticated and
represents the next generation of portable recharging systems using highly
 tuned wireless technology.

The company added: We are also looking at applying the results of this work
to fields other than portable electronics, including power transmission
between circuit boards or computer chips, and providing mobile charging
 systems for electric cars.

career, that is, my question and doubt is whether the government or
private sector will accept the dual impairement like this for recruiting
in their companies?.

I need your sincere advice, suggestions, ideas and solutions for my
queries. Also, Will anyone know is there any Deaf-Blind association or
organisation available in tamilnadu or anywhere in india?

Awaiting for a positive and good reply from you.

Thanks Regards

Re: [AI] Laptop battery level

2010-09-17 Thread Zujar
I too faced a similar issue earlier. The laptop worked on power but did not
recharge the battery. My sister checked the adapter at the laptop end and
informed that a pin was a little tilted. She straightened the tilted pin
with her hair pin and the battery recharged when connected to power supply.
It's working fine since then (more than 2 years past).

This is one clue. Maybe it helps!

Re: [AI] Examinations

 hello madam,
 my views are as follows:
first of all to reduce dependability of vi candidates on scribes for
appearing in exams, where ever possible use of assistive technology must
 be laid amphysis.
for eg., few management exams are now conducted on line. as these are
computer based exams, it is very practical to make use of jaws or other
screen readers. such exams also overcome the hinderence of bias by
examiner towards Vi candidates either too libral or too harsh as pointed
by one of our friend. these technological advancements must be accomodated.
secondly, There should not be any stringint rules to be complied with
while arranging for a writer. in place of it, invigilator in charge
should be very dedicated towards his/her duty because many times i came
across people who take a very good writer and they themselves dont do
anything other than sitting and in place the entire paper is solved by
the scribe. such practises are dubious raising serious questions on the
capability of entire vi community. people tends to develop a mallaicious
tendency towards us. most of the time invigilators are not found on the
duty or sitting there and engaging themselves in some other chores. they
should be very alert and see that upto what extent scribe is assisting
the candidate. is candidate herself is answering questions or they are
ansered by writer? this practice also act as a partiality against other
 vi candidates.
writer should be always from the same field or must be assosiated with
the subject concerning the examination for which a vi candidate is
 appearing.
writer must be in no case be arranged by the body conducting exams. this
must entirely lie in the domain of vi candidate appearing for exam.
questions of pictorial presentations must in every case be replaced by
theoritical questions. in many examinations there is no such provision
like in management exams. these exams have complex data to be interpreted.
as i am aiming at CAT, FMS, XAT, SNAP etc. inclusion of screen readers
will be a very cozy step in this direction.
hope my opinions will add to this bettle against present dogmas.

 Sandeep Gautam wrote:
  Dear all,
the problem of a scribe is common to all VI people who are student or
appearing for one or other exam (either for job etc.)
I know one person, who is a graduate from very reputed college in
Delhi and speaks very fluent, impressive, correct and intelligent
English. but, when he is told to type a paper, he even don't know the
spelling of that and other so simple words. .
this was because he studied from audio material and with the help of
readers and got high colours with the help of a intelligent scribe.
This draws very bad image for VI person as it shows VI persons got
pass in high colours due to the efficiency of good scribe ( although
  opposite cases are also there).

I say, why we depend on good or bad writer?
why we depend on his/her (writer) understanding or knowledge of
  spellings?

When we use JAWS or Talks to access machines or informations by our
own without any scribe, then, why we need a scribe to evaluate our
  capability and academic knowledge?

We should have a simple and single law to use a computer
(desktop/laptop) to appear any exam and, diagram and figure questions
should be replaced with equally weighted theory questions.

one practical difficulty appears in my mind that how examiner will
respond to the computer typed answer sheets because it is clear from
the answer sheet that this is of a VI candidate ( he could be too
  liberal or too rigid).

[AI] Pandit Puttaraj Gavai: A beacon for thousands

2010-09-17 Thread pradeep banakar
Folks, this time I am sharing sad news to all. I am requesting all
the NGO's to include Pandit Puttaraj Gavai success stories in their
websites
Regards
Pradeep

http://www.deccanherald.com/content/97287/pandit-puttaraj-gavai-beacon-thousands.html

Pandit Puttaraj Gavai: A beacon for thousands
Bangalore, Sept 17 (PTI):
Multi-faceted Hindustani and Carnatic vocalist, instrumentalist,
writer and seer Puttaraj Gavai overcame blindness to master several
genres of music, pen
books and engage in theatre.
An exponent of the Gwalior gharana, Puttaraj was born in 1914 at
Charanthimata in Karnataka's Dharwad district. He lost his father in
his infancy and began
his first music lessons under his uncle Chandrashekarayya.

His uncle sent Gavai to musician Gangayogi Panchakshara Gawai, under
whose tutelage Puttaraj blossomed.

Gavai's talent for learning languages did not go unnoticed by his
guru, who also engaged different masters to teach him various
languages, turning him
into a polyglot, well versed in Kannada, Sanskrit and Hindi.

He penned works -- literary, spiritual and musical -- in all these languages.

Gavai's zest for musical excellence also led him to master various
musical instruments, including the violin, tabla, harmonium, mridangam
and veena.

The master was bestowed with several awards both from states and the
Centre. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the Karnataka
Rajyotsav Award,
the Basvashri award, Kanaka Purandara Prashasti, Rajya Sangeet Vidwan Award.

The recitals of the guru and his disciples enthralled audiences,
leading to an invitation from HMV recording company in 1933. The duo
rendered Kanganava
Mora in Raag Kedari, Chaina Nahin Mere in Hageshri and two Kannada
Padas Magana Toogiro and Dhyanava Madiro. The records received a good
response in the
state.

Gavai's penchant for the literary word saw him penning many books on
music, including Sangeet Shastra Jnana and Tabla Shikshaka GuruSudha
in two volumes.
In Kannada, he wrote several books, including Akkamahadevi Purana,
Siddeswara Purana, Purathanara Purana Veerabhadreshwara Purana and
Sharana Basaveshwara
Purana.
