Re: [AI] ruling reg. Allowances in S.B.I, for V.I Employee.
sir, conveyance allowance for disabled central govt employees has been fixed as per the 6th CPC and it is maximum upto rs.1600/- and also it is exempted from income tax. the conveyance allowance to the disabled employees has been exempted upto Rs.1600/- P.A. but, for the bank employees the department of public enterprises revise it from time to time. mainly once in a 5 years. and it is very less. currently 5% of the basic pay or Rs.400/- whichever is lower. -Original Message- From: harish Sent: Monday, September 09, 2013 10:46 AM To: Dedicated AccessIndia list for discussing accessibility of mobilephonesand Tabs. Re: [AI] NEW EXCITING DEVELOPMENT IN SCREEN READING SOFTWARE
Amazing development. Guess there are companies in Small medium who are willing to employ VI but due to cost aspect; they think twice. But this will certainly remove barrier as NVDA is no cost. Great going Dipendra and heartiest congratulations for taking up this initiative. Thanks and kind regards Asif -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Dipendra Manocha Sent: Thursday, September 05, 2013 11:25 PM To: accessindia Subject: [AI] NEW EXCITING DEVELOPMENT IN SCREEN READING SOFTWARE Dear Access-Indians I would like to share a very exciting development in the area of Screen Reading software. As you all know that NVDA is an open source screen reading software that can be downloaded free of cost from nvaccess.org web site. Its latest version is 2013-2 released just few days ago. There are some good developments related to NVDA here in India. First; A development team is now working right here in India contributing new features and improving the screen reading software. The team is lead by one of our brightest software developer who himself is a screen reading software user. He is Mr. Manish Agrawal. Manish works full time with Sapient Technologies at very senior knowledge resource and he now gives 40% of his time specifically to the NVDA project. He is supported by one more dedicated developer and also very experienced screen reading software tester. IIT Delhi is also putting a team together to work under Manish to contribute in development of NVDA. All these efforts are under a joint project being implemented by CIS and Saksham and supported by enable-India. Thanks to Hans Foundation to provide financial support to run this project. Specific objective of getting a team here in India is to work on priorities set by users in India. The team started its work by concentrating on improving performance of NVDA in Microsoft office applications. Some of the remarkable improvements that Indian team contributed to NVDA include: Added sentence reading command Improved paragraph reading command performance specially with bullets and auto numbering Reading of protected documents in MS word Announcement of suggestions in microsoft outlook in to or cc fields Improvements of speech output in spell check dialogue box Reading of status bar im all office 2010 applications Etc... This list is growing fast and we can all appreciate that how important these features are for us. More important is that we now have developers who are very willing to listen to us and work on what we think are most important features for us in our jobs or educational environments. For example, One major reason due to which I myself was not able to switch to NVDA was that it did not announce auto complete suggestions of mail IDs in Microsoft outlook. Global team had this a very low priority because they always suggested to use thunderbird instead of MS Outlook. I could not make that shift due to my company policy and responsibilities. Indian development team fixed this issue and for past few months I am working very happily full time with NVDA as my full time screen reading software. What this team now wants is that the priorities of bug fixes or new feature requests should be set by the users themselves. So, here comes the opportunity to make a screen reading software work where we find that it is not working. If you would like to report an problem that you are facing use of NVDA or you feel NVDA is not providing information that you need, please report it to: sumandog...@gmail.com Normally there are three releases of NVDA every year. How-ever, if you would like to try out builds of version that NVDA development team in India is releasing, write to Suman with this intension on the e-mail provided above. These releases are issued after every bug fix. These are not ensured for stability and thus only those who would like to test out the new features and provide feedback should get into this mode of using NVDA. Last but not the least, We are getting very close of provide licenses of Eloquence to work with NVDA along with the license of Sangita and Vocaliser voices. Saksham will be providing these licenses in a few weeks to come after testing stability of whole new licensing system. I will also be writing soon about what is being done to add all Indian languages in E-speak TTS. So, keep watch in this area as lot of exciting developments are happening here. Wishing everyone all the best and a happy teacher's day. As so many people have already pointed out, the Jaws cursor like functionality is a difficult part. As Harish Ji has already pointed out, the steps are not as complicated as they might sound , but it is difficult to understand at first, particularly for a Jaws user. Another issue is with Jaws scripts, life is made so much easier with Jaws with applications like Skype and GoogleTalk. Jaws can kind of work with these applications, particularly the former without scripts but not that well. I find the experience is same with NVDA, if they could integrate the functionalities provided by Jaws Scripts to NVDA as well, things could become a lot better. Another thing might be specific to my style of use. I like the Jaws function of Jaws key + Enter moving the web page by a few frames, particularly useful when reading newspapers and such stuff. Has to keep arrowing down in NVDA and that is something I really don't like. This is a wonderful initiative and I hope NVDA continues to evolve and go from strength to strength. I believe this is a right step to frontward this complain to CCPD, however, our apprehensions of these mental blocks would remain unresolved in the society unless we stop recruiting such people who are actually mentally blind. I have a rather useful feature request. When reading through the message list in Outlook using the up and down arrow keys, NVDA announces all the column headers along with the message details, for example, message read, from Manish Agrawal, Subject {AI} Exciting development in screen reading software, received 18:30, size 22 kb Column headers like from, subject, received, etc are unnecessary verbiage especially for someone who spends 3-4 hours a day working with Outlook. It would be good to have a feature where these column header announcements can be turned off for Outlook. It would just be enough for NVDA to announce Manish Agrawal, {AI} Exciting developments in screen reading software, 18:30 22kb This would make reading through the Outlook message list much faster and less repetitive. If there is already a way to do this in NVDA, I would be happy to be told how. Just my two cents worth. Dependar sir is requestted to develop one such tutorial./snip It is interesting to hear all the different user perspectives. I'll put across mine - and honestly I am not trying to inflame this healthy discussion. One thing that has not come up in this discussion and is not very obvious to us as users is that this is open source software. It not only means it is free, it also means that we as users can contribute to it as much as we can. For example, a tutorial is not something that a software developer only needs to create. Every single person on this list can contribute to creating learning resources about NVDA - you try things, read up on the net, ask a friend etc. and find out a few things about NVDA that you didn't know till yesterday, feel free to go out and distribute that information to others. Create your own tutorials, blog posts, podcasts etc. Those will not be perfect but they will be better than not having anything for the next person and you would have contributed towards making NVDA better. So, we can just ask for features and bug fixes and tutorials and wish someone will do it. Or we can also contribute in whatever little ways we can - e.g. create tutorials, volunteer to train others, become beta testers and report problems etc. Philosophy aside, some tips for users struggling with new/different concepts in NVDA: 1. Join the NVDA support mailing list. It is a list similar to access India and full of very passionate and experienced NVDA users. You can find a lot of help on the simple and not so simple problems you run into while getting up to speed with NVDA. 2. NVDA is not jaws. It is a different screen reader that is trying a different set of innovations and mechanisms to bring accessibility to software. Spend more time learning NVDA. 3. NVDA is not jaws (did I just say that??). Jaws is much older, has a much larger team of developers, has much more funding etc. but jaws is also much more expensive. NVDA is a simpler product and although it is very powerful, it does not have all the features of jaws. However, at this point it is so powerful that a user like me who deals with a lot of cutting edge newly developed software applications on a daily basis is able to run only with NVDA almost the whole day. 4. Developing a screen reader is very hard. So, if you reported a bug, asked for a feature etc. and no one seems to hear you for a while, do not despair. Every small fix in NVDA takes a lot of time and effort. The developers are probably still fixing the last request. Re: [AI] quary about dropbox.
It is simple. Just creat a new foulder inside to your dropbox. Name it whatever you like. After creating it, hit the application key or right click if you are a partially sighted. Hit enter on share this foulder. That will take you to the dropbox page and you must give their email id with whom you're going to share with. -Original Message- From: AccessIndia [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Shireen Irani Sent: Monday, September 09, 2013 6:32 PM To: accessindia Subject: [AI] quary about dropbox. hi, i have managed to download and install dropbox on my laptop, and also am able to access files shared with me. could some1 please tell me in some detail, how i can share folders via mail with other people?? basically i know how to receive, but dont know how to send. please help. i'm using jaws 13 with IE 8. thanx, Shireen. If you would like to report an problem that

These are not ensured for stability and thus only those who would

I hope once this project becomes a movement, more python developers would be able to fix and address special configuration issues at much faster pace. I am amazed at the number of projects going on in India itself who try to develop tools for blind for computers. If these teams become contributors to NVDa project, we may end up having an army to deal with. This may happen if as users we ask for NVDA when we come to providing accessibility to computers. I think you're confused with sharing a foulder with someone and copying a dropbox link and giving it to someone. Both are different. Sharing a foulder with someone = you and that x can share any files inside to that foulder. For an example, if you want to share NVDA program to someone called rooby, you can just put that NVDA file inside to that foulder and she can drag it from her end. You don't wana give any link for that. Rather if you wana give a dropbox link for downloadin that file, select that file, right click and hit enter on copy publick link. That's it. In JAWS, the download or copying status could be checked with the command insert+b, but I couldn't do it in NVDA. Is there any mechanism to do it in NVDA. If no, my suggestion is to get it done. How ever, it is new language for many and to get jaws configured for speicif requirements, we could hardly find people who could do jaws scripting. Jaws can kind of work with these applications,
