Re: [AI] Soon, facilities for the physically challenged at all police stations

well read Bhavani sir.
In fact, these Policy makers and auditors only know Ramps as enabling
condition for disabled.
And accessibility of public places from vantage point of Visually
challenged is not on a priority.
I don't know any excess audit team where visually challenged is one of
the members. Hope members will provide some data on this.

stations

This morning How come this surprising news...
But certainly when PWD Act 1995 is about to be replaced perhaps this
department has also felt the need that look, Disabled can also come to
lodge FIR independently. So you have legal capacity, you know.
undoubtedly this announcement is a welcome move.
Hope they act on this promise soon.
http://www.indianexpress.com/news/soon-facilities-for-the-physically-challenged-at-all-police-stations/1195525/0

Delhi Police is now in the process of making arrangements for the
physically challenged at all police stations and unit offices. The
department is in talks with the Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment under the Government of India and an expert will be
appointed to conduct an audit of all police stations and submit a
report to the Ministry. The matter will be referred to the Ministry of
Home Affairs for administrative sanctions and approval.
Police sources told Newsline that the talks were initiated earlier
this month after the department felt the need to equip its offices
with facilities for the physically challenged.

A senior police officer said: "The force is meant for the public and
our job is to deal with the public. For physically challenged persons,
we have decided that basic facilities need to be there to help them
approach us easily."

The idea, police sources said, is to install physically
challenged-friendly toilets and ramps for disabled persons at all 181
police stations, 11 offices of deputy commissioners of police and
other unit offices. Police sources said the project, when approved,
will be facilitated under the Scheme for Implementation of Persons
with Disabilities Act.

Sources said an expert has been identified and will be appointed by
the Ministry to conduct an audit of all the offices and prepare a
report to make buildings physically challenged-friendly.

"The Public Works department (PWD) will be asked to prepare an
estimate of the cost of the entire project and submit the same to the
department and the Ministry. The Ministry of Social Justice and
Empowerment will then fund the project. The matter will also be
forwarded to the MHA for administrative approval and expenditure
sanctions," the officer said.

There are 181 police stations in the city, of which 113 police
stations are running in their own buildings, 10 are under
construction, 22 are yet to be constructed and 36 are yet to get their
land.

"The police stations that are being constructed and those that have
been approved and construction is slated to begin in the coming
months, have taken care of the aspect. These too be will be audited,"
the officer said.

Re: [AI] JAWS V. NVDA

2013-11-15 Thread Pranav Lal
Hi Ketan,

I regularly use the HDFC Bank website with jaws. I have also used NVDA on
that site. What specific problems are you having on the site? I agree about
supporting NVDA though. It is my primary screen reader on my netbook.

Having said the above, the screen reader X vs. screen reader Y discussion is
a tricky one. I like having multiple screen readers. Screen reader X works
better say in Microsoft PowerPoint while I can launch screen reader Y if
screen reader X crashes etc.

department has also felt the need that look, Disabled can also come to
lodge FIR independently.

Hey, dear Access India mailing list friends. Rather than just donating
to the NV Access team I think institutes who work at a large scale
should inform the NV Access team on the possible aspects where there
is room for improvement.
Please consider my suggestion.

I could not try your tips before. I tried it just now on a small sheet of 60

Subject: Re: [AI] About Pivot Table in Excel 2007.

Yes it is accessible (without a sample excel file it's hard to
explain, but I'll try).
For example There's a worksheet that contains a detailed study of your
client base such as their demographics, their income level, product
preference, buying pattern etc and let's say this whole data runs over
some 4000 rows, but you're only interested in finding out just the
average income level of your clients by region.
This is one of the reasons why you may want to use the pivot table
feature.
To creat a pivot table:
1. go to the top left cornor of the data (for example, A1)
2. go to insert > pivot table or pivot chart > pivot table (Alt n, v,
enter)
3. confirm the selection (something like $A$1:$S$4000) and press enter
4. By default the pivot table gets created in a new worksheet and the
cursor lands in A3. Press F6 to move to the field list box where you
can select what needs to be put in rows, what needs to be put in
columns, and what needs to go as value.
for example, select "region" as row then "income Level" as value.
5. Press shift f6 to go back to the newly designed pivot table, then
verify that the values in the table are summarised correctly ( sum /
count / average)
6. if you wish to summarise the value in a different manner, then go
to the first cell of the value and then activate the context menu and
then select the appropriate option in the "summarise by" details menu.

Dear Friends,

I am writing this mail with immense pleasure. I have come across
situations wherein NVDA is the only screen reader that works. HDFC Bank
online portal is one such example. JAWS is not at all friendly with this
portal whereas NVDA functions almost seamlessly.

I feel that we need to support NVDA more and more and all of us could
consider financial support even at a very small level. Even if we were to
donate 10 USD a month it will be INR 600 and consider 100 people doing it.

K Pavani Sree (pavanisre...@gmail.com) is a research scholar,
Department of Sociology, University of Hyderabad.

Disability as a universal phenomenon has been defined in a number of
ways. The World Health Organisation (WHO) has explained the concept of
disability under three broad categories, namely, “Impairment,
Disability and Handicap”. Social scientists in recent decades have
highlighted the socio-historical and cultural dimensions of
disability. The medical model of disability stresses the fact that
impaired bodies need to adjust, adapt and undergo corrections to
overcome lack or absence, which is essential in most cases. The shift
from the medical model to the social model of impairment is due to
perception through the sociocultural and structural context. This has
led to disability studies problematising the sociocultural
construction of disability and opening up the space to criticise the
medical model. The studies have shifted from lack to social barriers.
The social model explains the social, structural and built environment
barriers of physically impaired people.

Researchers in the social sciences and humanities have developed
disability as an interdisciplinary category by forming a new
methodological and analytical tool. The book under review has focused
on the issues of persons with disabilities through an empirical
examination of the contemporary context particularly of the Indian
scenario. It also highlights the critical interpretations of
impairments in narratives to throw light on evolving notions on
impairment.

The book consists of 17 papers and is divided into five sections. Ten
papers focus on the gender dimension of disability and seven give new
insights into the emerging field of disability studies. The book
covers almost all areas of disability ranging from historcising
disability in India, the disability rights movement, need for caring,
notions of gender, identity construction and formation, inclusion and
participation of persons with disabilities. The book deals with the
issues at both the micro and macro levels. It interprets a wide range
of impairments including visual, auditory mental illness and locomotor
disability. Jose Abad Lorente and Partho Bhowmick write on “Body/Text:
Art Project on Deafness and Communication” and “Blind with Camera:
Photographs by the Visually Impaired” highlighting disability
aesthetics and creative diversity regarding the deaf and blind. They
show how the disabled are using the latest technology and developing
skills on par with the able-bodied. The papers in this volume provide
a comprehensive understanding of where to place discourses on
disabilities in the Indian context. As Mehrotra and Shubhangi Vaidya
point out unlike the practices of labelling, segregation and
institutionalisation observed in the west, the sociocultural milieu in
non-western societies, including India, have historically tended to
absorb persons with disabilities within the circle of family and
social networks, creating spaces for them to function according to
their capabilities. They also highlight the fact that Indians seem to
pay less attention to mental illnesses than to physical illnesses. One
can relate this statement to Erving Goffman’s concept of discredited
persons who have a physical impairment, i e, have a visible stigma and
discredited persons with a non-visible impairment. In other words, it
is about mental illness. From the above it is evident that
particularly in India disability is defined in terms of dependency and
is understood primarily as a physical defect.

Gender Dimension

Coming to the notion of the gender dimension of disability, Nandini
Ghosh, Renu Addlakha, Michel Friender and Sandhya Limaye reveal how
women with disabilities are often subjected to multiple
discriminations due to the patriarchal notions on sexuality which

NEW YORK, NOV 15:

A federal judge rejected a lawsuit on Thursday by authors aimed at
stopping Google's book scanning
project, ruling that Google's plan to scan and digitise 20 million
books constitutes fair use
under US copyright laws.

The long-running dispute centred on Google's Library Project in which
the search giant reached
agreements with several large libraries to scan their collections to
provide information about
the books and online excerpts.

Author and publisher groups argued that the practice was a violation
of copyright, but Google
reached a settlement with the publishers last year.

In his ruling Judge Denny Chin rejected the authors' claims, and said
the Google project offered
numerous benefits to the public and to researchers. It also fell under
the fair use doctrine
of copyright law because "Google's use of the copyrighted works is
highly transformative,"
he ruled.

Not only does the Google project provide "a new and efficient way for
readers and researchers
to find books," he added, but it "has become an essential research
tool, as it helps librarians
identify and find research sources, it makes the process of
interlibrary lending more efficient,
and it facilitates finding and checking citations."

Re: [AI] how to download songs

2013-11-15 Thread Bhavya shah
Hi, Shyam Sir.
I am not totally sure because I have not yet downloaded videos that long.
However, I have never read on Clip Converter's official website that
they have a time limit.
Considering their Facebook Likes I guess one can download any video
via Clip Converter regardless of their duration.
Please try downloading a video longer than 30 minutes or rather 1 or 2
hours long yourself to clarify this doubt.
Also, I would appreciate if you posted the result of this experiment
on Access India.
Regards
Bhavya

Hello friends, I just want to mention that the topic is all about
deleting the registry of a window and deleting a registry of window
counts as a piracy cause to delete the registry of window is not a
legal task. It is a illegal task so it is piracy.
Thanks.

Hi,
You are right.
Hindi_Varnamala is a Romanized Hindi keyboard layout specially

However, sited persons can also use it equally.
If you are VI person, I suggest to switch to it.
My Varnamala is designed in such a way it is almost similar to all

Then, do the following.

1. Install AOMEI Partition Assistant, run it as administrator privileges
and get Windows partition manager main interface:
2. Right click on the C: drive you want to repartition and select
"resize" from the shortcut menu.

[Resize Partition]

3. Shrink partition: drag C: parition right side leftwards to release
some unallocated space as we wish and then click "OK":
4. Now the C: drive has been shrunk, and we can make a new partition in
unallocated space to keep classified data. Right click unallocated space
and choose "Create" option to get new window as following, it will guide
you specify the new partition info, after that, click "OK":
5. After completing all operations, please do not forget to click
"Apply" button (on the toolbar) to change the operations to physical
