WHITE GUIDE TO HELP VISUALLY IMPAIRED WALK WITH CONFIDENCE.
For visually impaired people it is not easy to find out who and what is around
them. A walking stick is the only support which can boost their morale and help
them escape all the hurdles.
According to the WHO’s report, 285 million people are estimated to be visually
impaired worldwide in which 39 million are blind and 246 million have low
vision. 82 per cent people living with blindness are aged 50 and above. India
has one of the largest blind population. Taking it as responsibility a group of
students of Maharaja Agrasen Institute of Technology have developed an
automated assistive aid (White Guide), which requires very less adaptation to a
new walking style. White Guide is an electronic device that can be attached to
the conventional white cane. It detects the presence of obstacles using
ultrasonic waves that are conveyed through intuitive audio patterns. White
Guide has two key features, one is obstacle detection another is SOS and real
time tracking of the person by the support.
The device has a synced Android application linked to it. The app registers all
the data entered into the user’s profile such as contact numbers of up to 3
people and their e-mail id. The device contains an emergency button. On
pressing this button, it gives an offline message to the contacts of the user
mentioning the current location of the person, which can be tracked through the
white Guide app or Google map. Source:

[AI] Fwd: Please Support us for gujarati TTS...

Subject: gujarati TTS...
To: mansuri.faisal...@gmail.com

We are delighted to inform you that we have started a project which is
related to the visually impaired .
We have set up a petition addressed to Google to integrate Gujarati
language into their text to speech formation system.
If a visually impaired person wants to use smart phone, they will have
to enable screen reader service on their smart phone.
I am a blind person.
Screen reader allows people like me to use the smart phone by
different gestures.
After enabling this service, we need to install text to speech to read
all the content displayed on the screen. Many text to speech programs
are available
like Google text to speech, Samsung text to speech, eloquence text to
speech, E speak text to speech, I wanna text to speech ETC. And we can
choose different languages in these kind of text to speech programs.
Here, I am specifically targeting Google text to speech because it is
the default text to speech us in the Google phones. It is one of the
best programs of kind.
Google ought to integrate Gujarati language into their text to speech
as it will help many visually impaired
persons to read news, books etc. That will also enable such people to
listen to the Gujarati text displayed on the screen.
So we request you to please sign this petition so that we can complete
our project.
For any further queries , please contact us our contact details are:

hai mahender galani you install an app called simple radio which you
can surch in play store. when you surch in playstore simple radio the
first link which comes you simply install that in your smart phone.
once you install simple radio app then go to it's surch box and type
any radio channel which you want to listen. once it starts playing
simply mark it favourite than you need not to surch again and again.

[AI] White guide to help visually impaired a walk with confidence

2017-03-20 Thread drbsmkumar
News

Source:

[AI] Blind are useful - But Hardly Human Beings(Read till the end please)

2017-03-20 Thread Arun dua
A Group of Blind boys and girls performed a Musical Concert and a Skit or
Glaucoma awareness at the Haryana Raj Bhawan on Sunday. The programme was
organised by the Glaucoma support group of post Graduate institute of Medical
research (PGI) Chandigarh, Presided over By the Haryana Governor, Director PGI,
Chief of the Glaucoma support group and a team of Doctors - Eye specialists of
PGI. The Chief Secretary of the Govt. Of Haryana also graced the occasion.Over
200 persons enjoyed the musical evening and the sumptuous tea at the expense of
Haryana Govt. The participants, represented a cross section of citizens,
associated with PGI Glaucoma Support group, the Doctors and those connected
with the blind,The governor granted rupees 2 lacks to the Glaucoma Support
group and rupees 1000 each to the blind performers besides Souvenirs were given
to them by the glaucoma support group. While about 200 hundred citizens were
made aware about the silent on-set of glaucoma and the need to be vigilant
in the confines of the Raj Bhawan; a larger audience would have been possible
at the Tagore Theatre or the PGI Auditorium. While the blind girls and boys
performed gleefully, enthralled by the opportunity to perform before a VIP
gathering their introduction and names were strikingly missing through the
program. Probably the Blind are destined to be identified as Blind only and are
not expected to be recognised as human beings with a name, esteem or identity.
But it is a fashion statement these days to harp on the empowerment, esteem and
dignity for the Blind and the disabled. However I wish to introduce all of them.

We should strongly protest against such condiscending attitude. I suggest
that we should have a signature campaign and place the memorandum to the
officials, including to the Prime Minister. We can also write to the blind
welfare institutions to take a stand.

Dear list members
Simply let me ask you, "Are you a DIVYANG?" If so, could anyone
explain the scientific or philosophical justification for branding us
with this terminology?
But as far as my impression goes, no disabled person is happy with
this vocabulary. Then why ministers, bureaucrats and other dignitories
love to adress us in the public domain the way we dislike? It reflects
condescending attitude of the so-called non-disabled people and their
complex believe that we don't have the right to oppose them even in
the matters directly impact us.
Love to hear your opinion.

Re: [AI] Meghalaya State Assembly: 'Opposition takes up Job quota for differently-abled'

2017-03-20 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa
Dear all
I started taking special interest about Meghalaya after personally
encountering the pathetic situation of many disabled people there.
Last July I personally approached Mr. John Leslee K Sangma, the MLA
who put the motion in the assembly for discussion requesting him to
use his authority and privilege to do justice to the disabled people
of his state. I also provided him with most of the relevant documents
which I collected through a series of RTI applications.
however the truth is that most of the politicians and higher officials
are either not approachable or indifferent to the disabled people. The
reason may be that we don't form a vote bank or we don't have any
social status so that we deserved to be listened. But I was lucky as
my wife's family have a good relation with the concerned legislator.
So we need to be highly informed and articulate. Lets use our full potential.

Warm regards
