RE: [AI] Should "Braille" Be Capitalised?
Braille should be capitalized only when we use it as a surname. When we type in MS Word, the app thinks that we are using it as a surname. That is why, uncapitalised Braille is marked as a spelling error. We can ignore it if we are not using the word as surname. -Original Message- From: accessindia@accessindia.org.in On Behalf Of Amiyo Biswas Sent: 02 April 2022 08:24 AM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: Re: [AI] Should "Braille" Be Capitalised? [AI]Poem: The wonder of Taj through blind eyes
Hi All, I had been to Agra recently to see the Taj Mahal and have been so inspired that I wrote this poem as a tribute to it. I titled it, 'The wonder of Taj through blind eyes'. Time dwindled and the memories of seeing the Taj on screen faded away, But my fate brought me to see it for real. Its visual beauty, I see it not, As these eyes lost the light that enthrones the majestic marble. But I was still captured by the irresistible magic of the wonder, Under its shadows I stood, imagining the suns and moons gazing at its graciousness, I heard the birds singing lullaby to the eternal lovers, I touched the aesthetic structure standing tall through the ages, What a wonder indeed it is, And a greater wonder to experience and live through it with blind eyes! [AI] Should "Braille" Be Capitalised?
Should "Braille" Be Capitalised? BANZAT (The Braille Authority of New Zealand Aotearoa Trust) is surveying New Zealand braille users, and other interested persons, in order to consider whether the word "braille" should be capitalised in all contexts when used in New Zealand English. This matter was raised at the 2020 BANZAT AGM, and has since been a matter under discussion. Currently, "braille" is only capitalised when used as a proper noun (name), eg. "Louis Braille", but is given a lower case b when used as a regular noun or verb, eg. "I read braille books," or, "I will braille out the recipe." Arguments Two life-long braille users with different opinions were asked to share their positions on either side of this argument. IN FAVOUR OF RETAINING THE STATUS QUO Braille should be capitalised when it refers to the inventor, Louis Braille, or when braille begins a sentence. Braille does not need to be capitalised when it is a descriptor, such as braille books, braille handouts, braille materials, braille volumes. Braille has become normalised, mainstreamed, in everyday parlance in the context of a list of formats such as, this document is available in audio, braille, etext, large print and print. To capitalise braille in the formats context makes it unusual, rather than showing braille is equal to other formats in the family of formats. IN FAVOUR OF CHANGE Some inventions named after their inventors are capitalised, others are not. I capitalise Braille when referring to the code or format, because I never want to forget the genius of Louis Braille, his sacrifices and the resistance he overcame. He is an example of blind people taking control of our destinies and changing the world. Capitalising Braille gives the inventor the respect he is due. Re: [AI] Have you organised any event please share your experience
Hi Minar, Congratulations and all the best for the feature. I would recommend being natural. There is nothing particular that you would need to do, just focus on your topic, speak to the point and making sure that you're showing them the right content which won't be difficult with a ppt in hand. Questions should mostly be on the topic itself. I don't see anyone going off-topic in such a setting. I have addressed a couple talks, not as large as yours, to approx 200 people, and many other ones to smaller groups, I never found anything unusual that I needed to take extra care of. Yes, there was one event once when some folks went off-topic, but it was the wide scope of the original topic which confused them. I politely told them that its not what we're discussing today, or there were some other organizers who took care of their questions. Just one thing, I try to make my talks as accessible as possible. One step of that is sharing the content in advance, it helps many people get oriented, specially VI audience, who can't follow your screen share well. I make sure to speak at a slower rate and clearly, so that the automated caption catches me well, as well as share my video in case someone wants to lip-read me. You need not adhere to some or any of these, these are just some of my steps which I believe work well for me. Thanks, Vaibhav On Fri, 1 Apr 2022 at 16:06, Minar Singh wrote: > Hello team > I'm going to organise event on documents accessibility for internal > resources for sighted people. approximately 2000 resources are > expected to join that event. [AI] query about the compare merge feature in microsoft word.
Hi all, Has anyone used the compare feature in word by any chance? This is where you can view two documents at one time, so that you can simultaneously view the original document, as well as the changes made in the revised version. In case anyone has used it or knows how to go about it, I'd be very grateful if you could help me with the keyboard commands, with either NVDA, or even with jaws. This is a bit urgent.
