[AI] Assistance in Railways

2024-05-18 Thread Cauvery Krishna
I'd like to know why Indian Railways can't provide assistance for people
with disabilities (PWDs) when airlines and even the Delhi Metro do.
I particularly appreciate the Delhi Metro's assistance process. They have
staff present to help with boarding and deboarding at each station.
However, the long form-filling process is quite time-consuming. It could be
automated by creating a profile on the Delhi Metro app or linking it with
the metro card.
If the Delhi Metro can do it, why can't Indian Railways?
For friends employed by Indian Railways:
what have you done to implement assistance on Railways?

Have there ever been any discussions or any steps taken to implement
assistance for PWDs on Indian Railways?
Regards.

[AI] What is the situation of diversity hiring by big corporations in India?

2024-05-18 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Friends working in big corporations and HR professionals specializing in
diversity hiring, could you please tell me about the work opportunities
available in these companies?
Specifically, I'd like to know if people with disabilities hired under
diversity programs receive an equal amount of work, respect, and dignity.
Are they simply hired to meet a quota, or is there actual change happening?
Are people with disabilities being treated as tokens?
Regards.

No, how efficient is the reporting to the parliament is? Does any of the

submit a compliance report in 90 days from the issuance of this order,
failing which the matter will be reported to the Parliament. I would like

[AI] Assistance in Railways

2024-05-17 Thread Cauvery Krishna

[AI] What is the situation of diversity hiring by big corporations in India?

2024-05-17 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Friends working in big corporations and HR professionals specializing in
diversity hiring, could you please tell me about the work opportunities
available in these companies?
Specifically, I'd like to know if people with disabilities hired under
diversity programs receive an equal amount of work, respect, and dignity.
Are they simply hired to meet a quota, or is there actual change happening?
Are people with disabilities being treated as tokens?

Sounds perfect to me. But in my opinion there should be one rule of the
group that if someone is reaching out to any of the member and if they
don't like the same they should act like an adult and block the person
instead of makibg a cry on the group that this person messaged me and
remove them from here etc.

I don't like the idea of discussing topics because then it will be just
like any other whatsapp group and we will not be able to make friends. We
should introduce ourselves and talk to the people whom we like and get to
know them better

[AI] Why do people say these things to the blind? And what can be done for the same?

2024-05-06 Thread Cauvery Krishna
These are some of the experiences had by one of my students of which I
don't have an answer. Could you please help me.
1. Di, I am a visually impaired MBA student, pursuing MBA from an IIM. I
was with a senior at the grocery store of our campus, i waited as the
senior got ice cream for both of us. The shopkeeper said, "inko bolo kal
aane k liye, kal meri taraf se mai inko kuch dunga. Ice cream ya juice kuch
dunga meri taraf se." Which roughly translates to, "ask him to come
tomorrow, I'll give him an ice cream or juice from my side." So the
question is why would the shopkeeper have said the same? I am an MBA
student, I was wearing clean clothes, I was holding a forty thousand rupees
phone in one hand and a white stick in the other hand. I don't understand
did he think I can't afford a Rs 50 ice cream? I am paying the equal amount
of fees but upon my survey he never said anything like this to any of the
sighted or non disabled students. Why was the ice cream ? For merely being
blind?
2. Di, one of my batchmates said, "how is the preparation for the exams
going? Do one thing, come let me teach you, I'll get punya by teaching
you." Why is it? Why can't people with blindness just exist? What is this
attachment of punya if we help the blind we'll get punya? Are we humans or
some divine entity. If you don't get punya by helping or teaching a sighted
or a non disabled person then why punya from the blind?
Please suggest how I can help my student, as clearly, she is in a lot of
stress by these experiences.
Regards.
Cauvery She/her.

I felt it is undignified because the last ones in this train feel like
they are being dragged. The speed is not Proportionate, further more, as
they stop or slow down there is constant stepping over each other's feats.
Additionally, whenever there is a turn the last ones bump in the doors or
walls or railings. In my opinion this is equally undignified as when one
catches the white stick and starts dragging the VI.

Question of dignity? There were three visually impaired students and one
sighted volunteer, the sighted volunteer grabbed the hand of one VI student
and asked the other two to keep their hands on each other shoulders, asked
the other two to walk behind the first one, essentially, forming a train. I
would like to know from you all is it a dignified way? If not, what would
be a dignified way to assist three VIs by one sighted volunteer? Thank you.

2024-04-29 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Questions regarding parties and social drinking while being visually
impaired. Hi all, I have recently started working at a start up company,
there is a huge party culture at our office, and every small achievement
gets celebrated. I would like to know from those of you who drinks: How do
you manage at parties? Do you take assistance from your co workers or
juniors? I am asking this question mainly because my co worker and the only
friend here at office said me that "Sorry Cauvery, I would not be able to
take care of you during the party as I am planning to drink therefore, it
would be better if you go home early." However, it's not the case, at max I
require little bit of assistance if the place is new or I don't want to
bump into people but its not that I need to be taken care of. How do you
deal with Fear of missing out? Regards. Cauvery.

[AI] Should we offer money as a tip to airlines staff or not?

2024-03-16 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Hi everyone,, I've consistently traveled with Indigo Airlines and have
never encountered any issues. In my opinion, Indigo is the best airline
because their ground staff and cabin crew have always been well-trained and
highly professional. I appreciate that they even ask for consent before
providing assistance, such as holding my hand., Now, I have a question:
Should we tip the ground staff who assist us to the aircraft? Is it
customary to offer them money? I'm unsure whether it would be appropriate
because they are already well-trained and specially prepared to assist
passengers as part of their job. Unlike watchmen, cab drivers, and
restaurant waiters who often expect tips from me in return of the
assistance, airline ground staff are trained professionals. Please share
your experience. Do you offer some money as tip or not?
Regards.
Cauvery. She, Her.

[AI] White cane questions.

2024-02-23 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Hi all,
I have a few questions regarding the white cane. I am writing these because
I lost my vision at a later stage of my life and I have never undertaken
mobility training. I have learned through the trial and error method, and I
have developed ways that work for me.
The questions are as follows:
1.
What should be the correct size of the white cane? And does it matter if we
don't have a cane with the correct size? I remember reading somewhere that
when you stand, the cane should come up till your breastbone or something.
Is it correct? Or what is the measure to check what size of the cane is
appropriate for you?
2.
How to take care of the cane? Or, what is the average life of a cane? I
don't know why, but the elastic which joins the cane keeps breaking in my
case. Every few months, the elastic breaks. Is there a way to replace the
elastic in a folding cane? Should we avoid some things so that the elastic
lasts longer?
3.
Previously, I was using a smart cane without turning on the vibration,
obviously. What I noticed was it had five folds and it was a bit thick.
Recently, the elastic broke, and I had to get a new one. I got a normal
cane for Rs 250, but in this, firstly, it is longer than my previous smart
cane, although it has only 4 folds, but it is still too long. Secondly, it
is comparatively thin. The issue I am facing is when I am tapping it while
walking, I am getting a jerk on my wrist, which never used to happen when I
used the smart cane. When I am using it for longer travel, I am getting
wrist pain due to the jerks. Please suggest what could be the issue and how
I can solve the same.
Thank you for reading.
Cauvery.

Thank you Sandeep for your response.
Could you please share about digital signature DSC in detail?
How does it work? From where to get it? How much does it cost? Does it work
in both Android and Windows?

Re: [AI] Please tell an accessible way to sign PDF docuements

2024-01-22 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Thank you for the response!
I am not willing to take print outs, then scan the pages, as it makes the
PDF inaccessible. The screen readers cannot read scanned PDFs without
running OCR, and OCRs are not accurate either.
Therefore I am looking for an accessible way to sign PDF documents.

[AI] HDFC Bank denied account opening due to visual impairment (circular required)

2023-11-07 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Dear all,
A friend of mine in Telangana was denied to open an account in HDFC Bank as
she uses thumb print as her signature. The employee forced her to open a
joint account with someone who can sign.
Requesting you to please share any guidelines or circulars which can be
showed to them in order to open a new bank account with thumbprint as
signature.
Thank you.
Regards.
Cauvery.

[AI] Does your siblings not getting married because of your disability.

2022-12-21 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Hi, Access Indians,
This is a very personal thing but I don't have any other option but to ask
this.
I am a person with visual impairment; I have lost my vision at a later
stage of my life.
I am pursuing my post graduation at a reputed institution, I am good with
technology, and I am independent also.
But, when people come to see my elder brother for his arranged marriage and
they get to know about me and my disability, they cancel the marriage with
my brother.
They think that I am a burden on my brother but I am an independent person
and even I am studying on a 100% scholarship and that too with monthly
stipent, and I will soon be getting a good job.
They say that they don't want their daughter to do seva of me.
My brother is does not have a disability, he looks good and ernes good as
well.
But because of me and my disability he is not getting married.
If some one of you has faced this type of situation please suggest me what
can I do now.
Thank you.
Cauvery Krishna.

[AI] Editing, Regarding durable talking wrist watch., Edit box, Out of list

2022-12-19 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Dear all,
Greetings,
There are times where I cannot carry my smartphone with me but I need to
keep the track of the time.
Therefore, I am looking for a talking watch for me.
Please note, I do not want those cheep plastic watches which are not
durable at all, and if it gets touched by something its time gets changed
automatically.
Also I am not willing to get the braille watch.
And the apple watch is out of my budget.
Therefore, I would like to request me to recommend me a solid and durable
talking watch.
My purpose is just to keep the tract of the time, if it offers any smart
features or not it hardly matters for me.
If you could get me its purchase link also that would be great.
Thank you.
Cauvery Krishna.

[AI] Regarding accessibility of Chrome books. *Personal experiences only.

2022-12-17 Thread Cauvery Krishna
Dear All,
Greetings,
Chrome books are such laptops which comes with Chrome OS instead of Windows
or Mac OS.
Chrome books come with better specs and are less expensive comparatively.
My work mostly runs around Google applications like Google docs, sheets,
slides, drive, chrome etc.
Therefore, I am thinking to get a chrome book for my self.
If some one of you has personally used one, Could you please tell me
regarding the accessibility of the same? And regarding the screen readers
which can be used for the same?
And how advanced are these screen readers on this Chrome OS.
And if you have faced any difficulty or challenges using a chrome book.
Thank You.
Cauvery Krishna.
