Hi friends,

I have taken the survey but can the person requesting the survey also write a
brief about the need of the survey. I also want to interact with Jayant if in

The survey does ask about necessary things but a question did occur to me if it
is merely for academic purpose or for something else.

Hey Chetan,

Why would you need an expert to track an ip. Gmail has the details of your

wanna trace paste the ip on the reply you will get a physical location.

Also we must ourself not discuss this too much.

The intention of that person is to explore benefits of tactile graphics, it is

students, with the response I have may be not many institutes/ colleges use
this as a regular practice. however i have responses from you people and I am
passing the same to the person.

@ Amit, I have read the info about the same on barrier break's website. It
would be more helpful for the needy,if u could have written if its available or
not in stocks and if so how does the client buy it from you. It is really good

Dear Chetan,

You may zip all the files and share the link of the zipped folder for all files
to be downloaded at once. With respect to sharing a link of folder, u can send
a link to public folder also, but the link opens as explorer with its sub
folders and files and probably won't start a download.

There is also an option to invite people to a specific user. The invited

[AI] Akash 2 bought from china off the shelf.

2012-11-30 Thread Kiran S Deshpande

Dear access Indians,

Source :
http://www.indiatvnews.com/business/india/world-cheapest-tablet-aakash-was-bought-from-china-newspaper-3638.html

Pasting an article appeared in Hindustan times on Nov 24,

World's cheapest tablet Aakash 2 was bought from China: newspaper report

New Delhi, Nov 24: A fresh controversy has reported over the world’s cheapest
tablet Aakash 2, after Delhi newspaper The Hindustam Times reported today that
the devices were procured off-the-shelf from manufacturers in china for $ 42
(Rs 2263 then) a piece.

The newspaper claimed that it has documents to prove that DataWind founders
Suneet and Raja Singh Tuli had procured these devices from China for $42 at
exactly the price at which they sold these to the Indian government.

The newspaper report said, DataWind bought more than 10,000 or more “A 13”
made-inChina tablets from at least four manufacturers in Shenzhen and Hong Kong
between October 26 and November 7.

These were shipped to India duty-free as they were meant for school students
under an HRD ministry programme, the report said.

Last year, Canada-based DataWind won a bid to supply 100,000 low-cost computing
devices to students. Aakash 2, which is meant to be India-made, is part of that
agreement.

DataWind had no role either in the design or manufacturing of Aakash 2 tablets,
a source told the newspaper.

“I just landed in New York. I will respond upon clearing immigration and
customs,” Suneet Tuli texted Hindustan Times in response to a questionnaire
emailed to him.

The newspaper report quoting documents said DataWind bought the tablets from at
least four manufacturers, Dasen International Electronics, Shenzhen Shitong
Zhaoli Technology, Kalong Technology and Trend Grace Ltd.

DataWind’s manufacturing partner in Hyderabad --- VMC Systems---had not built
any device over the last couple of months, a source told the newspaper.

Its manufacturing partners and facilities in Delhi and Amritsar, respectively,
too, had not produced even a single tablet over the last couple of months, the
source said.

“Instead of manufacturing these low-cost tablets themselves… DataWind has
simply purchased these ‘off-the-shelf’ from China and supplied it to the Indian
government,” the source told the newspaper.

It now appears that Datawind handed over the China-made tablets to Indian
Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay for testing.

IIT-B’s role is limited to testing and installing apps. These, it emerges, were
subsequently unveiled as Aakash 2 on November 11. IIT-B did not respond to an
emailed questionnaire.

Dear Nirmal,

Thanks for bringing the reply to the news report. I had pasted this link n news
as there are a lot of people among the list members who are eagerly awaiting
such a device and they should not get a sub standard product just because of
the cost.

To my knowledge there is hardly a FAB in India which is a fabrication unit
where u can make the motherboards that is the core of the device. Approximately
4 Billion USD is required for setting up a fab unit. Hyderabad was supposed to
have one but still it has not taken place.

You may refer this website for the details of investments needed and the
current state.

Nirmal I am not giving too much of technical stuff here, I share equal
appreciation about the governments efforts.

I request Nirmal and members not to take this as a mail to downcast some work
and if my mail meant to pass any such message I shall take a note of the same.

Re: [AI] regarding handwritten to ocr conversion

2012-11-30 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Dear Shreyas,

This link relates to information on performing OCR on hand written text called
ICR, this is most commonly used in processing the application forms, (read auto
data collection).

ICR isn't as good as other OCR engines and as such is less accurate though
they claim 97%. I personally don't feel that it can perform the action on a non
form based hand written text recognition.

Re: [AI] website tracker required

2012-10-10 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Hi ekinath,

There is no solution on this from the point of an user, an administrator can
write a small program to do this(website admin). However we can write a small
program too and achieve this result the auto checker as you wanted. I was
working in satyam infoway way back in 1997 at that time there was a dial up
connection for Internet .

We had written an auto dialer which shall first use satyam's Internet and
calculate time taken to load 20 different websites then switch the competitors
connection and repeat the download. This was useful in telling us the average
speed of connections.

The logic you need is different than the one explained above however I shared
this for idea purpose. If you do not find an alternative reply / solution I
shall write this program for you where you get the newly uploaded content on a
particular website in an email as alert or the files directly to your inbox.

Re: [AI] Trouble logging into Saksham.org

2012-06-02 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Dear all,

I would like to inform members that every one is right in their own
perspective. What happens is the homepage of the domain is infected by malware
(usually the index.html ). A small code of script is in the index.html. One can
see the script, there is no need for any special anti virus / programmer. It
has nothing to do with any antivirus, it's server side error. Those who try
iPad, mobile browsers, antivirus disabled chrome , IE might not feel this, but
more than 70% browsers should be affected.

The website shall not be able to get away with this for a while. One needs to
find the page that is infected and delete the script. Affected browsers are
Chrome, IE. even after the affected page is replaced it shall roughly take two
months for this warning to get away(on the www.saksham.org domain). ,
irrespective of where it is hosted above mentioned browser users shall face
this issue. Chrome shall wait for this much amount of time till it feels
satisfied.

If Saksham persists to get this trouble there is a simple solution to avoid
this trouble for two to three months. It can register another domain and re
route ( put a forward) so users when type the original domain and get re routed
to a dummy domain(meaningful), one and google won't block the new domain. The
www.saksham.org domain will be in googles block list for a while. The time is
minimum that is indicated above. The new domain will save Saksham from all the
above trouble. Roughly 500 rs would be the cost involved in the above process
and small changes to the code (replace www.saksham.org to www.new.com). Benefit
is Saksham need not send mails to all those who follows it.. The users still
type the same original URL, they won't even know the difference.

Regards,

Kiran

Dear AccessIndians,
It gives me immense satisfaction and pleasure to greatfully acknowledge
that Kiran has done the huge task of converting around 8 thousand word files
into PDF for me by the script which he has described in the trailing mail.

As we know, converting PDF into word or text can be done easily by using
programmes like doctools etc.
However, when we wish to convert from word to PDF, we have some utilities
like DOPDF etc. but they require you to open each file and print it as PDF
one by one.We have had a quite a discussion on it in AI a few days ago.
Then, through AI only, Kiran came to my rescue, developing a script which he
readily allowed me to use, and whereby we could convert files from word into
PDF in bulk.

Indeed, I thank him from my heart for this yoeman service.
I believe he can share the download link for the script in case anybody
wishes to use it in future.

Thanks Kiran once again and Thanks AI too.

Dear Rajesh,

I have been able to get the script working for the
requirement no virtual pdf or any other printer will do this job. there
is only one utility available it is called the JOD Converter, there are
other ways of doing it.

One needs a Adobe acrobat writer, we need to
buy adobe acrobat or there is a single utility with very pdf(costing 80
USD) but using this too it is a command line program but we need to do
the execution of the command line for each file (convert.exe 1.doc
1.pdf) this is as we are doing the open and print as pdf.

the script
that i have written lists and stores all the doc files in a text file
(batch processing) eg Convert.exe + filename.doc(from a txt file
populated) to filename.pdf)

however the testing is done but to release
the same I need some time and hope to give it as soon as possible. jod
converter is the best option available and is open source. i hope that
this exercise shall be helpful to some others needing this kind of
utility, this will also help conversion of one format to other including
unicode support.

Assure you of the release and requesting you to give
me some time.

Regards,

Kiran

Dear Bhavesh

first, modifying the registry carries a small risk - if you make a mistake,
you could make your system un-bootable. You might even loose data. However,
these changes are safe, and if you follow the instructions the risk is
minimal.

*   Start regedit.exe
* Navigate to and expand the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\VBSFile\Shell key
aka HKCR\VBSFile\Shell
*
*   You should see 4 sub-keys - Edit, Open, Open2, Print,
* Under the open folder there is another folder where a value is set.
Pls tell me the value u shall then be guided further.
*
* The default value is what is displayed in the pop-up menu displayed
when you right click a vbs file. The ampersand () causes the letter
following it to be underlined.
*   Close regedit.

Re: [AI] Recognizing pictures in a word document

2012-02-08 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Hi Rajesh,

I am assuming the following once again. For reference we have a doc file,
which in between contains Images(with some textual matter in the images.).
We desire that we should be able to perform the OCR and have a result of the
same as follows,
The Original Text in the Doc File shall remain as it is, and wherever the
doc file had image, OCR should have extracted the Text and placed it instead
of the Image at that particular location and all this should be in a new
editable format.

If this is right,

With my little knowledge I feel the following.

1. I would have first given the command to convert the entire word DOC as a
PDF and seen the result of OCR.(I can check as I have the text part in the
original doc file for verification if OCR was performed on the Image and
added at respective location or not.)
2. As I said earlier that I shall just pick the images one by one from the
original doc File (in between two textual paragraphs) perform an OCR, get
the result and put it back at the image's respective location, all this done
on a copy of the original doc file, and see if I get any result out.

I may be wrong in assessing the actual scenario and may be pardoned if at
all I am.

With Regards,

Kiran S Deshpande.

Hi Rajesh,
What version of Word are you using? If it is 2007 or 2010, then you
can do the following. This assumes that your document is a *.docx
file.
1. Make a copy of the document.
2. Rename the file to have a zip extension.
3. Unzip the archive.
4. Explore the unzipped archive. There are folders that contain all
the images in the document.

You can try recognising these images using OCR.

 Hi Rajesh,

The Approach depends upon the kind of word Doc it is, I am assuming
 scenarios and writing this mail.

 1. we may save the word doc as PDF and then perform an OCR on the Pdf.
 2. If the Doc is a combination of Text matter and followed by an image
that
has relevant information, we may pick up the images and perform ocr and
 place back(doesn't sound too logical).
 3. Assistance by a sighted member can be taken.(I may volunteer unless

Otherwise I do not think of any approach.

If you are referring to the suggestion I made you then you don't need a
converter as I explained in the last mail, All you do is import the required
images in word, or Paint and click the print option as if you were to print
it. Now you need to select the Cute PDF printer from the drop down menu.
There is nothing like a converter, If u are unable to still manage pls write

2011-08-23 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Hi All,

Also this way of doing the conversion shall also attend to the need of the
interface/program being accessible as there will be no separate program that
shall be running instead it shall be a standard print command.

Re: [AI] Please suggest a good scanning software,

2011-08-20 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Hi,

You have asked about the scanning software here, however it would be easy to
answer you if u can let us know what is the scanner that you are using, Most
branded scanners come with a capturing software of their own, however since
the scanners these days support a common Architecture we may suggest you one
if you can be little descriptive about the same. You may also contact off
the list(optional) for a more clear understanding.

Thanks and Regards,

Kiran S Deshpande.

Abhishek,
Forget about any scanning software (designed for visually impaired people),
scanning the handwritten text accurately. One way which I tried was to get
the handwritten text using black pen, but again no success.
As far as softwares are concerned, then Fine Reader, Openbook, are my
likings. However even Kurzweil is a good one, but that depends on
individual's needs as to what exact functionalities he desires to use from
the software, along with scanning facility. Tips will need to be looked at
depending on the kind of documents / books which you need to scan.

Re: [AI] Eligibility of a writer

2010-07-25 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
Dear Friends,

I know the thought that I am sharing here must have come to many of yo as
well. I am relatively new to the list and may be this has been discussed
earlier but still i would like any of you to throw some light on this.

I am asking myself after reading all this as to why is that examinations
above the std 7 not taken online where what one needs to create is an online
question paper that will be accessible with NVDA or Jaws, and hence avoid
these necessities of a scribe and the usual set of problems related it to
the same. The state Education minister has been appraised of this
possibility under a scheme and I am awaiting response on the same.

My Question to all the people here is why is that an online examination is
not advocated to all those who can use a computer with a screen reader and a
simple test is given online the most simplest from of getting examined.

This shall erase the need of

Finding a scribe.
Speed related issues.
Spelling mistake related issues.
and many such things.

Pl let me know if someone has thought. I know that people may differ on how
will this be implemented but i want to just know why this cant be done when
it is relatively easy?

Regards,

Kiran S Deshpande

Re: [AI] kurswel

2010-04-09 Thread Kiran S Deshpande
HI,

Can any one let me know as to what is the validity of the demo software and
does a user reuse the demo software by changing the system date or removing
the registry entries of the software?

How long is the demo thing going to work and how long are demo softwares an
end solution?

It is not just asking about questions in the group but it is about
contribution and hence i am asking this question. I am new to this group and
wish to dedicate a whole new set of software features without the commercial
tag. But i need to know this so as to contribute in a good way.

Regards,

Kiran
