Re: [AI] What You Should Do to Prevent and Treat Glaucoma
the amount of fluid in the eyes. This can greatly make the lives of glaucoma patients a lot easier. Because of the advances in medical care, the incidence of blindness due to glaucoma can be lessened. Glaucoma Treatment through the use of Eye Drops It's also worth noting that patients with myopia are at a higher risk of having glaucoma. We recommend that eye examination is performed once every five years in people age 40 and above. Natural Ways to Lower Your Eye Pressure Since glaucoma occurs due to high eye pressure, lifestyle changes to lower your blood pressure may also work to lower your eye pressure. Here are things that you can do: 1. Control you blood sugar level. A high sugar intake is also linked to elevated blood pressure levels. This is especially true to people with diabetes and to those who are obese, thereby causing high eye pressure. Avoid excessive consumption of sugar, breads, rice, potatoes, cereals, grains, and pasta. 2. Do aerobic exercise. Studies show that intra-ocular pressure can be lowered through aerobic exercise. You can do a 20-minute brisk walking for at least four times a week. -- if you can dream it,you can do it. Re: [AI] Sharing the experience about BEST (Mumbai)
Madam, first of all while catching the bus or climbing a bus talking on phone is not good, this was fault on your side, it may meet an eccident also second thing if you talk politely with conductors or co-passengers they will surely help you so always be polite in your words. On 12/12/13, Neelima Surve neelima.a...@gmail.com wrote: Dear Members! Here I am going to share an such a bad experience of BEST. After reading it you can post your views but please no need to take it too much lengthy. The second thing which is very very important no phones and private mail allowed on my personal mail, if it is not valid. Especially from unknown person. Other wise, I will forward that mail to moderator. I always, go by bus to my College fromsome bussess like C 71, C 72, 448, 440. Mostly I prefer these 4 bussess. Many time, drivers Cunducters both cooperate me in precisely. But, yesterday's experience was somewhere, horible. When I climbed on buss, for 4 5 minits I did not get my sit. After getting it, the travelers are starting to talk very rudely. Just because, I was talking on phone about an advertisement or whatever. They had started to creat the arguements about my handicapness, that also after seing that my eyes are closed. Very important thing is driver and cunducter both had not cooperated with me, in fact, cunducter had also started harassing me, by saying See see walking with free passess. When I shown him his mistake, then, he said, now stop other wise, I will take the buss at the police station. I forced him, but he had not done it. When I talk to our Moderator Mr. Harish about it, he instantly passed me the told free number of BEST and I launched my complain. Heart felt thanks to Mr. Harish Sir, for this number. But, many times we face some kind of difficulties while climbing in buss. Before climbing they start buss. If we ask not to do it, then, they clearly ignore it. Even if, we ask the stops they don't response for it. I am not speaking it about the all the cunducters, but, many time it happends with me. My experience says here. Not me. Anyways Here I am sharing the told free number for you. So that, you can get quick cooperation if you will get any kind of difficulty. Here is that number : 1800227550 Still if any NGOs can do something for it for example sites are not proper and some other difficulties, kindly do the needfull. Again heartfelt thanks to Harish Sir. Finally again I am trictly warning here, no personal calls or mails are allowed if it is not valid. If got any kind of mail, I will strictly forward that mail to moderator. Re: [AI] Accessible voting machine!
it's true Gorge Sir, until unless we know the list of candidates and their serial number then how will we come to know to which number we have to press the button, on EVM machine if the names are provided against the buttons it will take long time to read where there will be more candidates, for example in Timarpur constituance there were 12 candidates we can't waste our time reading near EVM machine the other people in the line will start shouting, so I request you to write to Election Commission to provide Braille list of candidates outside the Poling booth so that we can decide to which number we can press button. On 12/5/13, George Abraham geo...@eyeway.org wrote: Friends, I do not think merely providing Braille on the EVMs buttons is the solution. Most blind voters will not be able to read Braille. The solution has to be more universal. Providing Braille notings on buttons is a cut and paste solution. We need to take the matter with the EVM manufacturers or the EC needs to understand the issue of access and then come up with a solution. I would like to take the matter up with the EC post the 8th of December. Anyone wanting to join me can connect with me off the list. [AI] New technology aids the blind do yoga
Scientists have developed an innovative software programme that watches a user's movements and gives spoken feedback on what to change to accurately complete a yoga pose. My hope for this technology is for people who are blind or low-vision to be able to try it out, and help give a basic understanding of yoga in a more comfortable setting, said project lead Kyle Rector, a University of Washington doctoral student in computer science and engineering. The programme, called Eyes-Free Yoga, uses Microsoft Kinect software to track body movements and offer auditory feedback in real time for six yoga poses. Rector wrote programming code that instructs the Kinect to read a user's body angles, then gives verbal feedback on how to adjust his or her arms, legs, neck or back to complete the pose. For example, the programme might say: Rotate your shoulders left or Lean sideways toward your left. The result is an accessible yoga 'exergame' a video game used for exercise that allows people without sight to interact verbally with a simulated yoga instructor. Rector and collaborators Julie Kientz, a UW assistant professor in Human Centered Design Engineering, and Cynthia Bennett, a research assistant in computer science and engineering, believe this can transform a typically visual activity into something that blind people can also enjoy. Each of the six poses has about 30 different commands for improvement based on a dozen rules deemed essential for each yoga position. Rector worked with a number of yoga instructors to put together the criteria for reaching the correct alignment in each pose. The Kinect first checks a person's core and suggests alignment changes, then moves to the head and neck area, and finally the arms and legs. It also gives positive feedback when a person is holding a pose correctly. Rector worked with 16 blind and low-vision people around Washington to test the programme and get feedback. Several of the participants had never done yoga before, while others had tried it a few times or took yoga classes regularly. Thirteen of the 16 people said they would recommend the programme and nearly everyone would use it again. The technology uses simple geometry and the law of cosines to calculate angles created during yoga. For example, in some poses a bent leg must be at a 90-degree angle, while the arm spread must form a 160-degree angle. The Kinect reads the angle of the pose using cameras and skeletal-tracking technology, then tells the user how to move to reach the desired angle. Rector and collaborators plan to make this technology available online so users could download the programme, plug in their Kinect and start doing yoga. -- vivekananda Ph-9868954833, skype: vivekkavya, FB: vivek doddamani. Yes Manjunath I agree with you, only in recent few years back Visually Impaired are appointed in few jobs, but still in Primary school high school teachers are not appointed and whoever are appointed in government services in Karnataka please write about their condition also. Due to NFB and other few such NGO's regular legal intervention with the government, More than 150 VI friends have been already appointed as first and second divisional assistants in various departments across Karnataka. And more than 20 are going to join as panchayath development officers at different panchayath levels. I am glad to tell you that I'd be one among them. And the state govt has agreed to revise the jobs as per the central govt list. The pressure is still on for the clearance of backlogs. Re: [AI] Online concession tickets
Dear Hitesh, Here is full text of Railway SMS ticket booking. Railways to try out ticketing through SMS Jun 18, 2013, 03.58AM IST TNN There will be a dedicated number on which a text message can be sent and there will be no need for internet at any stage — booking, payment, cancellation etc. NEW DELHI: In a bid to further simplify the ticketing process, Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will launch a pilot project for ticketing through non-internet based mobile phones from July 1. This will enable people using non-internet based mobile phones to access railway ticketing services through SMS or Interactive Voice Response (IVR) or Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) systems. The scheme, aimed at improving access to ticketing, will be user-friendly, secure and also eco-friendly, as no printout would be required. The objective is to tap the potential of the mobile phone market and help the common man by providing anywhere, anytime and hassle-free booking option, an official said. There will be a dedicated number on which a text message can be sent and there will be no need for internet at any stage — booking, payment, cancellation etc. One will have to register the mobile number with IRCTC as well as one's bank (one time password) for authorization of payment. The passenger will have to type the train number, destination, journey date, class and passenger details like name, age and gender on the SMS box. The sender will receive a transaction ID and then make payment by sending another text message by typing PAY followed by the transaction ID and the bank password. On successful booking of ticket, a message will be sent to the user by IRCTC which will suffice as valid authority to travel along with photo ID card in original. Cancellation of tickets can also be done through the cancellation option available. The scheme will be on pilot basis and will not be available during 8 am-12 pm for booking ARP/tatkal/general tickets. Try solving this tricky math problem! Dear all Access Indians, if you want to be a millionaire, you can try and solve this tricky math problem! A billionaire Dallas banker will shell out $1 million to anyone who can solve the Beal Conjecture that has baffled geniuses for years. The American Mathematics Society (AMS) in Rhode Island has announced that the prize for the solution to the Beal Conjecture, a number theory problem, has been increased to $1 million. The prize and Conjecture are named for D Andrew Andy Beal, the Dallas billionaire, who has a strong interest in number theory and who provided the funds for the Beal Prize. The prize will be awarded for either a proof of, or a counterexample to, the Beal Conjecture. To earn the Beal Prize, a proposed solution must be published in a refereed mathematical publication which is respected and, in the opinion of the prize committee (selected by the AMS) maintains the highest editorial standards. I plead with you all not to ask me a baffling question as to what the Beal Conjecture is. I'm not a mathematical genius, Please refer to Wikipedia and Encyclopedia for the definition of Beal Conjecture. Kindly release the solution first to me before publishing the solution in the mathematical publication! I wish one of our Access Indians become a millionaire very soon. Warm regards. David Richards. Re: [AI] Be Alert while looking for Cyted Assistance at out-door
Friend, no body can reserve concession ticket without concession form atleast in x-erox copy of the concession certificate, even rilway staff need concession certificate, now a days we Visually Impaired persons are the soft target for cheating. On 5/1/13, avinash shahi shahi88avin...@gmail.com wrote: Amjad, cheer up man. Experience is the best teacher, they say. your own account of being cheated is an eye-opener for us. Thanks for sharing it here. Though I don't have any bitter experience of being deceived by strangers at public places, nonetheless believe, deceitful people roam frequently in plenty at public places. Its just a matter of luck and chance if we happen to meet good people. Its like finding a marital spous to one's taste by luck.. So your greed to get your work done in haste backfired. You were seeking VIP quota facility he pretended to be VIP and cheated you. Better you had taken his Phone-number and other details. But now be-gone by gone. So cutting the introduction short, I would like to recount my experience in detail in order to make you all realize the depth of seriousness of fraudulent behaviour and alert you from possible dangers which we all may face. One of my friend requested me to confirm his railway ticket for his schedule journey from Mumbai to Jalgaon on 27th March, 2013 through VIP quota as he was planning to visit Mumbai just for appearing his SBI exams on 28th April, 2013. On Saturday morning around 11 AM, I checked PNR status of the ticket which was WL 103. I went to the office of Divisional Railway Manager at Mumbai CST to complete all the formalities. Suddenly, a man met me on platform number 5 and offered his help taking me at CCM building on platform number 1 where I was suppose to go for the said formalities. Further, he inquired all the needful information from my end and informed me that due to railway election, these officials have been transferred in some other building and now, mere administrative department is functioning in this building, so he took me in another building at reservation office and asked me to wait for a while. During this conversation, He also provided his professional as well as personal details. He was a railway staff and His real sister also happened to be a visually impaired and got married to a banker, so this guy pretended as if he could completely empathize challenges of visually impaired persons. He took initiative himself to solve my problem and started dialing some numbers from his mobile phone to convince railway staff for my waitlisted ticket. After 30 minutes of telephonic conversations with his different colleagues around 12:15, he informed me that the PNR status is wl48 and due to the last day of railway election, VIP quota has been completely reserved so it’s very difficult to confirm the ticket. Finally, he painted the picture that I have no option but to cancel this ticket and book a fresh one in staff quota with his so called benevolent assistance. After sometime, with my accord He confirmed my friend’s ticket in Coach No. S2 and Seat No. 48 in staff quota by mere calling to someone. I got suspicious and inquired, how he can book a reserved ticket with concessional fare (Ticket was of Rs.70) without my friend’s concession certificate? He replied that I am a railway staff, so provided my ID number to the manager and there is no need of his concessional certificate as we also have his disability certificate issued by the government authority. Then he guided me at down stairs and asked me to wait once again till another fellow handover the confirmed ticket for rs.195/-. He also explained, emergency booking was the cause for increased cost of ticket. Finally, another fellow appeared and they parted from me for around 1 minute or so. Then they both approached me and handed over the ticket. It was a fresh printed ticket. I gave him Rs. 200/- as a payment. He said that he did not have change of Rs. 5/-. I left the matter and collected the ticket with the feeling of gratitude towards that person. In the evening, I thought that I should inform the PNR number to my friend, so I gave the ticket to my father and ask him to read out the detail for my verification. When he read all the details, I found that I have been cheated completely; Because, the ticket was someone else “Cancelled ticket” of 25th April, 2013. I got shocked, not because I los my money, but because I got cheated so easily. I know taking sighted assistant is unavoidable in visually challenged person's life, but this worth learning experience triggered me to pen down all this matter and initiate healthy discussion in order to share other's

Friends, Here I would like to share a bad experience of Disabled Coach of Karnataka Express (New Delhi to Bangluru) in New Delhi Railway Station. I had went to see off one of my visually Disabled friend to Bangalore through Karnataka Express on 26th April, he had Waiting list ticket which was not confirmed, I tried him to get into Disabled Coach which is attached behind Engine, before our arrival the coach was full of general passangers, we went and complained to Railway Police who was nearby he threatened us (Agar Jana hi to Jao warna bagh yeha se) if you want to get in go otherwise run away from here, we went and even requested the guard also his reply was (I am having other work also I can't do anything) at last my friend got into the Disabled Coach and when the train moved he noticed that railway police persons came in and collected Rs.50/ from each general passangers they also told my friend you give us Rs.100/ we will get you upper seat inside the disabled coach so that you can go to bangalore without any problem. Disabled coach was totally packed with general passangers until it reached Bangalore. My friend said in future he will never travel in Disabled Coach. So I request mail members to send complaint numbers of northern Railways to whom we can complain this matter he also said in many stations public even threatened him if the situation of Disabled coach in New Delhi Station is such a manner then what else the situation is in other station. Over a million employees and officers of 27 public sector banks, 12 old generation private banks and eight foreign banks will take part in the strike, said All India Bank Employees Association secretary Vishwas Utagi. Among other things, they will protest the government's move to amend the banking laws bill, presently pending before parliament and scheduled for discussions Aug 23 and 24, Utagi said in a statement here. The proposed banking law amendments proposing to adversely amend the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, and Banking Companies' Acquisition Transfer of Undertakings Act, aimed at merger of banks, allowing private and foreign capital in banks, unrestricted voting rights and granting licences to corporate business houses to start new banks, are aimed at handing over the Indian private sector banking to multi-national banks and increasing the presence of Indian corporate and foreign direct investment in public sector banks, Utagi said. The outcome of these proposed measures would be closure of rural bank branches, resorting to a large number of ultra-small branches, thereby privatising rural banking operations through contractual businesses, he claimed. The strike would also oppose outsourcing of work to outside agencies, and other anti-labour policies, jeopardising jobs in the banking sector and aimed at undermining the collective bargaining strength. During the strike, bank employees here will take out a procession to Azad Maidan in support of their demands, he added. One good thing is that I'm able to restrict loss of vision due to treatment since the age of 2 years, I'm 35 now. My ophthalmo has clarified that the medicines he prescribe are for retention and not for cure, I follow his instructions strictly and believe it has helped me. I understand not being able to see something that could be seen earlier is a painful experience but its really important for us to be prepared when we know that its ought to happen. Think of ways to overcome difficulties rather than cripping over something that's not under our control. Vision loss can happen with anyone, the difference for us is that we know about it in advance. Isn't this an advantage and an opportunity for us to prepare for the future? Dear friend, don't lose hope - keep your cool and you'd be able to think of the positive side of the situation. Did you have your eyes examined for cataract? Doctors recently discovered cataract in both my eyes and operated them. I have been able to see a lot more light ever since. I do not wish to raise hopes -- cataract surgeries don't always result in an improvement in vision. Vamshi 9949349497-Original message- From: sujith kumar Sent: 13/07/2012, 3:10 pm To: accessindia Subject: [AI] Request for responses against the injustice. Respected members, This is regarding the Complaint about Kerala PSC’s Last Grade Servant suitability test and rank list for the visually challenged. I applied for the post of last grade servant in Thrissur district in Kerala PSC (Category no. 508/2009). As I am a partially blind person (75% disability), I requested for a scribe, and wrote the exam with the help of the scribe allowed for me. I secured 73 marks in the written exam and thereby attained a place in the special probability list for physically handicapped, published by the Thrissur District PSC office. As a result, I received a letter from Psc to attend the certificate verification and suitability test on 09.05.2012 in the District PSC office, Thrissur. PSC conducted the suitability test by way of giving news paper to read, and I failed to do it. On 29.06.2012, KPSC published the rank list for the same by dropping me. Thus, I have been denied the right to be in the rank list. If I will be in the rank list I will be in the 4th place among the blind persons in the rank list. Now the marks of last candidate in the partially blind category in the rank list is minus 1. Even though I had acquired 73 marks, I was denied the place in the rank list and thereby also the job opportunity, because of the “unsuitable for the post” statement result of the suitability test. The recruitment is for the various departments of the Kerala Government with a very large number of vacancies. Also at the same time, 5 persons with 100% disability and 2 persons with the same percentage of disability in Trivandrum and Kottayam districts respectively have been included in the rank list. A point to be noted is that, as the process of “newspaper reading” was not applied for the suitability test in the other districts other than Thrissur, as a result, larger number of persons having 90% disability was included in the rank list. So, when persons with 100% disability and persons having negative marks were included in the rank list, I, instead of scoring 73 marks and having 75% disability was neglected from the list. Due to this injustice shown towards me, I decided to file a case in the court and have approached a lawyer for helping me to obtain the rights. The lawyer has informed that most probably by Tuesday (July 17th), the case will be filed in the Kerala Administration Tribunal. So, dear members, if you have any informations regarding these type of cases and judgments or if you have any documents or government orders regarding this matter please do mail or inform me ASAP. I had also faced the similar problem in the suitability test of LD clerk post a couple of months ago. So, if there are any other ways also for availing justice, please do help me! Once again I am requesting to all the members to please respond to this mail with suitable suggestions and informations! Re: [AI] A question, which is not really a question
Hai Mohit, what Ajay is telling is also right to some extent You should try to become more independent, you take driver only till college gate and back home but inside college premises and classroom try to be independent why I am telling you this is because now you are still student but when you get maried if you do not have proper mobility it will be verymuch difficult your wife cannot assist everywhere with you and your driver cannot escort everywhere, this problem with late blinds even I also went through same problem but try to become independent as much as possible. It is perhaps easier when the help is hired than when help is voluntery or more so when help is from our family... -Original Message- From: accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in [mailto:accessindia-boun...@accessindia.org.in] On Behalf Of Mohit Shah Shah Sent: Saturday, June 16, 2012 10:51 PM To: accessindia@accessindia.org.in Subject: [AI] A question, which is not really a question Hi all, First of all, let me take this opportunity to wish you a very happy half year. Now, I'd like to ask a question which may not appear to be of much importance, but which makes a lot of difference to me at least. As I am sure many of you know, I go to college and to other public places with the help of my driver who acts as my sighted escort. While this method works perfectly, I've often encountered one flaw in the plan, so to speak. As soon as my class gets over, my escort comes and takes me to our car for going home. Similarly, when we go out somewhere, my driver comes to pick me up as soon as I come out with my friends from that place. So, because of this what happens is that my friends get to chat and have fun even after the class, while I miss all the fun because my escort picks me up immediately after the work that we went for is over. One possible solution could be to ask my friends to drop me to my car, but they also drop me immediately after we're done and continue talking away and making merry afterwards. So, how can I ask my friends to not drop me immediately to my car considering that I don't have a really concrete reason for hanging on in the first place? What should I ask my escort to do in these cases? This is often a source of a little bit of annoyance for me and leaves, you know, a sour taste, so to speak as I don't properly get to say goodbye to my friends after having had such a great time. Plus, it might even make them feel that I'm a nerd and don't wish to socialize. Please answer this question as earnestly and sincerely as you can because what might seem like a petty thing to you might mean a lot to someone else. I am yours most sincerely, Mohit, Gopalkrishna, Sarvapali, Mahindra, Vishwakumar, Sarmprasad, Shah :P Search for old postings at: http://www.mail-archive.com/accessindia@accessindia.org.in/ To unsubscribe send a message to accessindia-requ...@accessindia.org.in with the subject unsubscribe. According the new guidelines, each of the officer has to earn average 60% marks in last 3 years for appearing the further promotion test I think that this is a very crucial situation for the disabled, specially for the visually impaired employee. This is equally true that he even will not get minimum qualifying marks in Self Appraisal report because most of them are not able to work properly in the banks due to several reasons.
