Dear friends,

Can some of us who are totally blind share how you identify cash
coins and notes? Particularly in situations where, let’s say you
have to verify change you receive for the payment you just made in
cash, let’s say to Amazon delivery guy?

My first thought is that it would be nice to have a special kind
of tray, perhaps multi-layered, in which you have say 6 or 7
compartments for coins, and the same for notes. This way you
simply keep denominations separately for choosing when making
payments yourself. But the challenge comes when you need to verify
money someone gives you, let’s say as change Etc.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

A question guys, has anyone ever tried using the Be My Eyes App for
this purpose? Would it work in a situation like this?

Re: [AI] Handling of cash?

2023-12-27 Thread Vaibhav Bhandari
Mani app works fine for me. It doesn't really take that long to
identify the notes. I wouldn't say that it's instantaneous, there is a
gap of 1-2 seconds.
Also, Thanks Prashant for informing that it is available in NAB Delhi!
Do we contact them through their contact info to ask to test the
device or do they just kee them in their stationary? If someone has
had experience in this then any information would be very helpful.
Yamuna, as far as I remember, it just identifies Indian currency and
you cannot upgrade currency specifications. The last time I had
watched the video of this device, which was somewhere in
September/October, I found it to be slower than the Mani app. It also
speaks out the currency very slowly and that too in both the
languages, I don't know whether we can avoid that or not. This was why
I didn't find it to be very useful as it too would take a lot of time,
plus, except small venders, there has been a large shift towards UPI
which is far easier than carrying notes.
Regarding Braille embossing on notes, I remember RBI had made an
announcement regarding this, far back in around April, but haven't
recieved any updates since then. There are some countries which do
have Braille embossing on their notes and I am asuming that there too
notes pass from hand to hand but this method is working; how is this
possible then?
Can someone also explain that cardboard device in a bit more detail? I
couldn't understand how that works.

the note indentifier which gallod has made is not100 percent
perfict. I have bought few those cards to give to my students they
were not useful. firstly, it takes time to insert the note. if you
are traveling by taxi or rikshaw, the driver will not have patience to
wait. secondly, it does not always identify old notes.myfriend
tested it by inserting old notes.

Dear List

In this thread of handling of cash, I wish to share the following
information.

A Mumbai based printer Galord Arts has developed a cardboard paper based
simple solution. He has named it “currency bank note value identifier for
visually impaired people''. This is costing around 100 rupees. It is an
envelope size measuring device with braille and stopper marks for different
currencies from 500 to 10 rupees for new notes. One face is for new notes
and the opposite is for old notes 100 to 10 rupees. User needs to insert a
single currency inside the hold band and trace the currency edge to read
the value.

This product has been available for a year now. It is an individual's
experience whether it is really a useful one or not.

Contact information of the printer is – Galord Arts mobile 9322270903,
email address: galord...@gmail.com

RE: [AI] Handling of cash?

2023-12-26 Thread Yamuna Jivana Dasa (Yoganathan Khandoo)
Braille won’t work on notes.

Notes are subject to degradation passing through so many hands. When they
become even slightly softened, the dots would have significantly faded.

and,

here, we are talking about those people who have minimum education, and, have a
minimum living. But, there in our country, India, we have mor visually
challenged people who are not educated, and, even cannot afford any type of
smartphone or these vollets. What for them?

don't you all think, that, we should make a online petition. For RBI, so, that,
they can print these notes in braile.

The best option is to have a talking wallet.
Its a little expensive, but its worth as it'll be only a one time investment.
It costs around 5 thousand, and speaks the denominations the moment you touch a
corner of the currency to it.
The best part is that it even tells you whether the currency is fake or not.
Hope it helps.

2023-12-26 Thread Yamuna Jivana Dasa (Yoganathan Khandoo)
Are you serious! Something like that exists?
Where to find one? Does it support Indian currency? What if the currency
changes form, does it allow updating of currency specifications via some sort
of flash memory or something?

Where to get it from? A video had gone viral about this product sometime
around the start of the year. I contacted the company to order, but I was told
they had got too many orders to, and they would contact me once they could get
mine. I contacted them a few more times, but didn’t get response.

Where to get it from? A video had gone viral about this product sometime
around the start of the year. I contacted the company to order, but I was
told they had got too many orders to, and they would contact me once they
could get mine. I contacted them a few more times, but didn’t get response.

The best option is to have a talking wallet.
Its a little expensive, but its worth as it'll be only a one time investment.
It costs around 5 thousand, and speaks the denominations the moment
you touch a corner of the currency to it.
The best part is that it even tells you whether the currency is fake or not.
Hope it helps.
Thanks,
Avichal

MANI, (Mobile Aided Note Identifier ) App is an excellent innovation
of the Reserve Bank of India. Thousands of visually challenged people
in India use it. Please download it from GooglePlay or Apple Store. Rs
twenty coin and 5 Rupee coins can be easily identifiable by touch.

Re: [AI] Handling of cash?

2023-12-21 Thread Satguru Rathi

Hi,
Apps having currency recognition feature like Lookout, Seeing AI, Maani
etc. are good options but in the situation where you have enough time
and are not suited for on-the-go cash transactions like while in the
market. The coins can still be identified due to their different size
and thickness. Rs. 10 and 20 coins have printed numbers which are quite
tangible. specially, for those who had at some time learned print. 5
Rupee coin is also easily identified due to its thickness. The challenge
remains with 1 and 2 rupee coins but they too, can be identified after
practising with few. the new 1 rupee coin has number 1 embossed which is
also quite tangible.
Wallet with multiple pockets can be another option but still one would
need to sort the money before hand and the apps mentioned can become handy.

With best regards,

Dear friends,

Can some of us who are totally blind share how you identify cash coins
and notes? Particularly in situations where, let’s say you have to
verify change you receive for the payment you just made in cash, let’s
say to Amazon delivery guy?

My first thought is that it would be nice to have a special kind of
tray, perhaps multi-layered, in which you have say 6 or 7 compartments
for coins, and the same for notes. This way you simply keep
denominations separately for choosing when making payments yourself.
But the challenge comes when you need to verify money someone gives
you, let’s say as change Etc.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Subject: [AI] Handling of cash?

Dear friends,

Can some of us who are totally blind share how you identify cash coins and
notes? Particularly in situations where, let’s say you have to verify change
you receive for the payment you just made in cash, let’s say to Amazon delivery
guy?

My first thought is that it would be nice to have a special kind of tray,
perhaps multi-layered, in which you have say 6 or 7 compartments for coins, and
the same for notes. This way you simply keep denominations separately for
choosing when making payments yourself. But the challenge comes when you need
to verify money someone gives you, let’s say as change Etc.

Any thoughts will be appreciated.

Re: [AI] Handling of cash?

2023-12-21 Thread Minar Singh
Hello YJD,
Please try to make online payment using google pay or phone pay or
mobile banking wherever possible because there is no full proof
technique to identify the new Indian currencies and coins. Another
challenge is that fake currencies are out in the market. the look and
feel of those currencies will be exactly match with the genuen
currencies with little bit change but those changes can be
identifyable for people having eye sight. Recently i received a 500 ru
note and it was a fake one. but i could manage to nabbed the person
who gave that and got exchanged luckily. after having the conversation
with that person, i felt that even he could not identify the fake
currency may be because he was a illiterate. He was a vegitable
wender.
