hi, yes, the open source may not be utilized by every users. But the rest screen readers is not modifiable/customizable even by an experts too. If any thing is not 100% that should neither consider nor compare with a thing having a constant figure of zero for ever. hi, Window-eye is second in circulation in USA after Jaws. Its magnifier the zoom-text is the best among all yet I had used. I personally had tested more than a dozen of magnifiers. About the screen reader, it is something like coca-cola and pepsi or close up and colgate toothpaste or wheel and surf washing powder! Fundamentally no difference but different in personal taste! However, NVDA has its own features. All other are commercial product. Every thing is in their hands. Nvda, an open source, yourself can modify as wish. Here is an my experience. First issue: One of VI Nepali telephoned me and expressed his problem. His small notetaker machine had function keys up to f11 (no f12 key in keyboard). As a result he is unable to know the time and date. He wanted a solution from me. Within no time I assigned shift+f11 key for time/date, compile the nvda and send to him. Within hours, his problem got solved. Next issue: One of VI fellow from Pakistan complain me about jaws not working in Urdu. I checked every things. Concluded that it was a problem of localization of jaws. I wrote to the technical chief of jaws. After my second inquiry, a month later, he asked me to send my license number. when I gave my purchased proof of jaws, then he requested me to send one paragraph of Urdu text. I did instantly but Now six month has been passed, no response. In my strong complain for no response, he confessed that the person in charge f localization was assigned for short term and after the release of jaws15, he has gone. According to him, he may return for jaws 16 and it may be consider then. Now compare the service got by our two friends. I know of persons who have stood by Wineyes all through these years and refused any other screenreaders. There is indeed a good learning curve involved and folks find it difficult to change over. I don't blame them for it. But, you can certainly consider Wineyes as an excellent screenreader and there is no problem migrating to it. Hi Friends and tech experts! Any one used Windows Eyes? Micro Soft are giving out free with MS Office. Why aren't people using it? Jaws is terribly expensive. I checked with the vendor today and I believe that a package of Jaws will cost us Rs 69k. Why do you think Windows Eyes has not taken off?
