Re: [AI] some books on political science.

2009-03-15 Thread Venkat

Good morning Harish sir,

I also want to stop all this. It is my pleasure to respond to a mail from
you. I am not highly educated but here is my understanding of the subject. I
am adding my comments at appropriate places.

I am pretty aware, the intend of the question is not as innocent as you
have put it.

* It is not a question of ethics. What I said was is it appropriate to
send a link to such a huge collection of books? Individual articles or
citations are OK but I felt it is not necessary to send those books to all
members.

I see another storm bruing, nefvertheless, I shall have it across.

*  Thank you.

Let me put it straight, I can put a stop for putting link of all ebooks on
the list.

It is in your sole discretion. I feel it is not necessary to share books
on-list. Members may contact providers of the books directly.

I have long completed my accademic persuit and I can merrily discuss on
big topic of IPR etc I may sound big doing that. The point is what have I
gained and lost by raising this boggie.

.

* Sir, If we don't discuss IPR and other acts and discuss only PWDA 95,
doesn't it look one-sided? I heard some people say VI people lack
comprehension as they can't see and understand the world around them

We have a long way to go in building the required infra structure for
providing a minimum accessible library.

* I am also looking for a day when we will have at-least one library at
national level with all books in an accessible form.

There is lot to be done in aligning our laws to make it disable friendly.

* We can wait and see what other laws are going to come.

There is a big missmatch for blind persons especially students for reading
material in accessible form be it in Braille or in talking books.

* I also agree with you as I have experienced it.

Strictly, speaking even transcribing in Baille or talking books is
prohibited by present laws.

* Yes. Laws must be changed to enable VI people to have atleast one library
or website with accessible study material and to ask the publishers to send
one copy of their publishing's to that library/website in an accessible
format.

So, would you like the blind persons to be restricted merely to textbooks
produced by the government?

Is this knowledge enough in the present times?

* Again, it is not a question weather I like this or I like that. I don't
restrict anyone to anything. Anyone can acquire knowledge and I am not
imposing any thing on others.

I am pretty sure the motivation in starting this topic was definately not
pious and innocent and that you are not aware of the ground realities.

* I don't claim that the motivation behind starting this topic is pious and
innocent. Coming to realities, there may be some discrepancy between laws
and realities. But can we take it for granted?

We certainly can afford not to have such intelectualls at this table.

* By saying intellectuals you are referring me then you can certainly
kick me out.

I have heard a word of wisdom which ran like this: We are blessed if we
can restrain ourselves from doing harm to others even though we did no
good deeds to anyone else.

*  Great saying.

I am sorry friends, we are moving from one controversy to another of late.

It is just becoming a talking shop and producing little output.

I am not closing the thread, however, I am requesting all members not to
carry on this thread and allow this discussion to die its natural death.

* I don't see any controversy in it. Don't we have a right atleast to talk
if we can not solve our problems?

Hello,

I didn't bother about copyright issue. I was curious how you got so many
books. Though I am not a student of history or pol science, I have
downloaded them for others.

Since sendspace is most popular as a file transfer service, too many
users try to download from it. So when the maximum limit of the server
is reached, we receive the full capacity message. Just wait for the 60
seconds and retry. You will get the download going after two or three
retries.

Best regards,
Amiyo Biswas.

Re: [AI] some books on political science.

2009-03-15 Thread Shadab Husain
Gentleman:

Seriously speaking, what is the use of discussing this topic? Have you ever
reflected how hobbling the consequences might be to us?

For sighted people, all the books are available in the college libraries.
Our impairment limits us, so we peruse the same books elsewhere. How can
anyone call it illegal?

Some buy books and then have the main pages of them xeroxed. The government
should put a ban on it as well. IN this context, isn't xeroxing also
illegal?

Please pardon me if I sound disobliging, but I am sure that the book
providers won't give a treat to us if we go to take their permission.

As the moderator has prudently stated, let this topic die its natural death.
I too feel: We are blessed if we can restrain ourselves from doing harm to
others even though we did no good deeds to anyone else.

I am afraid - the list is again snowballing towards another controversy. Let's
not respond to this.

Bend the law and bend the rules

complained that they couldn't do so, what could be the reason? Some
times on sendspace, Soon after if usee the download link immiaediately
after u have uploaded a file, it says This service is at full
capacity, What does it mean? the solution for people who could not
download happens to be, try and try you'll get the success. Regarding
the accessibility of the books raised by Amio sir, Sir all the books
are the pure soft copies. Regarding the copy rights raised by Venkat,
No problem, Very fortunately, our governament is very sympathetic
towards even some terrists, this is not big crime. I was joking, as he
is a close friend of mine. So don't reply to this copy rights issue as
he deliberately raised.
Your suggestions are welcome in this matter.
Regards,
Govind.
