Sounds like a grounding fight in texas needs to go down. Tamales and ground

The big question is it ufc or wwe style?

My boss also would see them at times. I had to at least try to do it right.
And I did, but in Oregon, central Oregon, sometimes the rocks start 1 inch
below the dirt. Lots of 12” grounds rods pounded in 6” up there.

Nice work as always Jamie. I have always thought there should be more use of
good simple SCADA systems and not over complicate things with the perceived
need for high speed broadband connections to the locations all of the time. Too
many people just don’t understand how a good SCADA system works.

Re: [AFMUG] SCADA porn

2020-04-18 Thread Jaime Solorza
After we get drawings and make sure all the parts are in stock, we lay out
back panel...we layout as much of the components on it as possible to
determine positioning...DC vs AC is decided first. One we have rough idea,
we use pencil marks to start measurements for Din rail...one guy cuts the
rail as another one starts to drill holes for screws..once Din rail in
place we clean panel of cutting oil, drill debris and pencil marks...two
guys start attaching components and terminal blocks as per drawings...the
other guy is printing plastic labels for terminal blocks...once relays
,fuses, jumpers and PLC parts are installed, we install power supplies, UPS
, battery and AC outlets.
Then we start wiring AC power side...use deadman plug to test.
Then we start wiring longest runs first while adding labels ... wiring
takes the longest...after all wiring is complete, we test each run for
continuity and Meg them... every run result is recorded...then we run DC
power where needed...once everything wired and powered, we connect a laptop
to PLC and our engineer runs stimulations throughout every circuit...
NO/NC/Timers etc...if everything passes, we disconnect fuse for batteries.
Clean everything and wrapped fully loaded back panel.
At site, our crew installs into enclosures... we don't let electricians do
it...too much risk ..
Once in, we start landing wires from equipment along with labeling and
testing.
It's a 5 man shop but three on panel is most efficient.

A lot of the farmers around us do that for their driers/augers. A big
box of equipment is installed, and the motors run smoother and quieter.

What does a harmonizer do? Cut down on harmonics? I know that in some
situation harmonics can cause a power factor type of problem to the power
company.

Yes...outer seal is bonded to ground inside pipefirst time we have done it
this way...this enclosure has compenents we have never installed before like a
harmonizer.

Re: [AFMUG] SCADA porn

2019-01-15 Thread chuck
I ran into one situation where there were two wires running up a hill on poles.
The customer could put power on one or the other. At the far end they both
controlled a little gearmotor that turned the knob on a UHF to VHF convertor.
The VHF came back to the house on those two power lines. Power one one wire,
clockwise, power on the other counter clockwise

And of course the return circuit was a ground rod.

I hope the green wire ground isn’t now filling in for a missing neutral. I
have run into electricians out in farming country who treat ground and neutral
as interchangeable, as in if the neutral or ground bar in the breaker panel is
full or inconvenient or missing (as in the case of some wild leg 3 phase farm
setups which don’t use a neutral wire), they just use the other one. Because
“ground is ground the world around”. Sometimes in farmhouses they will have a
surge strip with the fault light always on, and you check out the wiring to
the grounded wall outlet, and someone has just connected the ground screw to
the white wire.

I think this answers the why question "Some extra grounding was called for as
per engineers" They probably don't actually know why it's needed.

I just involved in a building project involving a 90hp Fire alarm sprinkler
pump. One single power phase kept randomly going to undervoltage and setting
the monitoring system into alarm. The Manufacturer said "We don't know why
it's doing it, try adding another ground wire and see what happens" The
Electrician said "That can't fix it, but I'll do it because you said so" Well,
it fixed it, for some reason that nobody really understands or has been able to
adequately explain.

It'll eliminate potential difference. Now, exactly what problems that
can resolve or that may never be seen is usually random guessing. But,
when a voltage potential happens it will go somewhere and undesirable
things can happen if that somewhere is a signal line, so you keep it at
ground (or equal to the rest of the system).
