Re: [AFMUG] High Priority Uplink / Downlink

2016-04-22 Thread Aaron Schneider
That isn't quite true about all Hi Priority traffic going before Low Priority
CIR... Leaving Hi Priority MIR at 0/0 is useful if you set a Low Priority CIR,
in that case the LP CIR will be honored, then it will move to High Priority
traffic.

Recall that the priority order proceeds as follow:

HiPri CIR
LoPri CIR
Bcast CIR (in downlink)
HiPri Remainder (beyond HP CIR, up to HP MIR/Burst)
LoPri Remainder (beyond LP CIR, up to HP MIR/Burst)
Bcast Remainder (beyond Bcast CIR, in downlink)

CIR is done in hardware, MIR is done in software, so CIR does count against MIR.

The broadcast channel is shared in downlink, so that is why there is a CIR for
that data but only in downlink. In uplink, broadcast data is user data so it
will follow whatever priority is determined from the packet.

-Aaron

Timothy, The Sustained rate is is in kbps and the allocation is in kbits.
Could you give me an example or screenshot of your QOS (Session Status >
Configuration) settings so I can better understand?

Also on George's response, "The scheduler will still prioritize HP traffic if
you leave it at 0/0. The same applies if you're putting more traffic into it
than you have configured. All HP traffic goes before LP CIR and MIR anyway. I
think Matt or Aaron explained it roughly this way before. "

That sounds like a bug in the QOS scheme, do you know where it was explained
like this?
Or could Matt or Aaron @ Cambium please elaborate?

Re: [AFMUG] Theoretical Question on Pine Tree Penetration

2016-04-22 Thread Mathew Howard
Indeed, a bit odd... I've never known 5ghz to work better than 2.4ghz nlos
:P

I would just try it and see what it does... even if you just test it with a
pair of PowerBeams (or better yet, Rockets with 2`dishes), you should be
able to get a pretty good idea what the airfibers are going to do.

Sure, but with a 10 MHz 256QAM dual polarity channel in 2.4 he's not going
to get anywhere near 200 aggregate. It can work great and have good
latency, 0% packet loss but it won't be particularly fast.

I would try it, at that distance, if you don't need the AF2 somewhere else
in your network you could always resell them to somebody else at a very
slight loss if it doesn't work.

I've seen it work with nanobridge-to-nanobridge (or nanobeam, powerbeam
etc) at 1-2km distances through evergreen trees in the pacific northwest.
This was in locations with very clean noise floor. Even 5 GHz will go
through a small (20 meter sized) individual cluster of pine trees at 1.5km
PTP, if the rest of the link is totally clear.

200 aggregate or 200 full duplex? I'd say it depends on channel size and
how high you can get the dishes. Are these at the base of the trees or
somewhat higher?

The following is the last communication, note this started as a
 slowness complaint.

Hi. I had a couple questions regarding the wireless router that
you provide with my service. Since I don't have access to the
 device, could
you turn off broadcasting of the SSID please? The reason for this
 request
due to a very damaging virus/malware that hit my home network
 extremely
hard.gained access to my networks through the wireless connection
 and my

Anyone have a nice Technology Use Policy for their employees they would be
willing to share? Working on a policy for our company and in doing research,
some out there are too simple, others seem overly complex, figured as I
continue to write ours I’d at least ask if any WISP has one that is

2016-04-22 Thread That One Guy /sarcasm
So this guys still at it, hes tried contacing rise multiple times, they
wont help, blah blah blah, wants us to help.

I did my due diligence, I called rise, told them we have a numbskul. I
asked them if they were serving malicious content over unsecured wifi, he
assured me they werent, something about bad juju and all, I told him sorry
for calling, and im not a rat fink snitch but I need this custome roff my
back so ill just point him to the FCC complaint form so they can tell him
to get bent.

I sent him the consumer complaint link with the FCC and told him its not
our place to get involved.

I assume this will end up resulting in him complaining every two days on
that form about us too

Im no snitch btw

Re: [AFMUG] Mikrotik Ethernet Errors

2016-04-22 Thread Josh Reynolds
We had a lot of issues with rb2011 Ethernet drivers showing issues with HP,
Intel NICs, netonix, adtran, accedian, etc.

CCR used to (dunno if they still do) have a lot of weird Ethernet issues
with other gear as well. The rest of the Mikrotik gear was normally pretty
solid.
