We have a few 1 Gbps customers. Most are on 30 or 50 Mbps. People do upgrade
so they must believe they need more for some reason.

EXACTLY. Everyone freaks out when Google fiber comes to their town... I want
to know what people are doing with a 1Gbps fiber connection that is going to
save the world. Or create new jobs. Or make life easier for people.

It's all marketing BS that the general public buys into, every - single - time.
I would bet that 99% of the population doesn't need more than a 5Mbps or 10Mbps
connection, at most.

Hey Chuck, I've got a question and a suggestion for your modified APC
PRM4.

After you put the DIN rail clip on, do you paint them? Just FYI, I have
to scrape the paint off to get them to fit on aluminum or steel 35mm
rail. So if you're painting them, I'd say don't.

And Ken turned me on to these:
https://www.winford.com/products/dinm15.php

The DINM13 clip would probably be the best fit. These are really nice
because there's no release. Just push the device up, tilt a bit and you
can pull it off of the rail. Most of the places I'm putting these are in
outdoor enclosures. You know how we cram 20 lbs of shit in a 10 lb box.
I forgot to get pics of the last one I did. Turned out really nice, but
it's a PITA to get a screwdriver in there to pull the release tab. Not
that they really need to ever come out, but I ran into a location
problem and had to slide them on the rail. That's impossible without
releasing them from the rail. The plastic clips would allow that without
issue. That's one of the reasons I went to aluminum rail, things slide
much easier.

I could buy some PRM4's and these clips and put them together myself.
But that's time and patience that I don't really have. So I'd gladly
keep paying a bit more for yours if it saves me that time.

Just wanted to throw this out there as constructive criticism.

Jay,

Depends if I expect them to actually get those speeds. If I do, then quite
a bit.
Maybe something like $99/month for 30x15. $199/month for 100x50. Even at
that price, there's an assumption that they're not actually using it all.

If it's "up to" and we don't care whether it happens, then maybe somewhat
less than a lot.

NY State by the way.

Thanks,

so far i-doit is the closest to the type of documentation system i'm
looking for. it's still very data center oriented but it looks like it can
be made to accomplish what i need.

NIPAP is a confusing set of acronyms that i have no i idea where to
begin with even understanding what it does. it seems like something that
would replace IPPLAN. their entire web page is all acronyms :-/

confluence seems more like a group project/task management that also
 does some documentation.

You might want to consider something like Procera to limit the bandwidth when a
whole building full of iPhones tries to download the latest iOS update. People
bring their personal devices to the workplace, and they use the company WiFi.

  Jay,

Depends if I expect them to actually get those speeds. If I do, then quite a
bit.
Maybe something like $99/month for 30x15. $199/month for 100x50. Even at
that price, there's an assumption that they're not actually using it all.

If it's "up to" and we don't care whether it happens, then maybe somewhat
less than a lot.

  NY State by the way.

  Thanks,

We're starting to deploy much higher speeds in areas with line of sight
(business areas) than we ever have before in our residential areas. I am
thinking the pricing we are thinking of is way too low. I'm interested in what
you'd charge for these plans and what part of the country you are in. Thanks!

30 down / 15 up
60 down / 30 up
100 down / 50 up

What do you charge per phone line?

If you didn't do say 100/50, what do you do?

Thanks everyone!

Re: [AFMUG] is....the price right?

2016-08-07 Thread CBB - Jay Fuller

The area targeted, in fact, is a downtown business district. Nearly every
customer/subscriber there has 60/4 from the cable co (charter) and they hate
it. in fact, in the last month, it has been riddled with problems - but now
they seem to have the bugs worked out as i'm not hearing the complaints as much
anymore.

aside from being local, our next major benefit is we can offer faster upload
than they can. our customers 15-20 miles outside of town are surrounded by
trees and are in a whole different world than the downtown area is.

we're thinking a plan that cost less than the lowest entry plan for the
competition (and is still more than enough for the customer) that would also
offer higher upload as well as plans that are similar but also offer higher
upload.

our customer service guys biggest fear now is someone from our existing network
will call wanting these speeds.
these speeds are only available in the downtown area where there are no
trees

100/50 is really limiting the oversub option, unless youre strictly enforcing
the business (actual business, as in letterhead or tax id, something
identifiable as a business)

in illinois, if we go above 25mb right now we move to symmetric DIA for
businesses that are rural. If youre competing in town with cable or fios, then
thats what youd probably be best served to pricepoint near without any other
value adds, just my two cents as the guy who doesnt own a company.

We went slick, every plan we sell is 3/1, we have three speed tiers based on
your performance that open you up to the next potential speed, same price. but
we only guarantee(ish) the 3/1. this keeps customers limited by powercode to
the best case their installation will support, that way the radios arent doing
the work of trying to deliver more than the link will support. We want as many
customers on the 3rd tier as possible. once per year an account can go through
an audit to see if they can tier up.

we also dont sell speed at all anymore, strictly consumption.

We used to paint them, but not any more. If you got painted ones that is

Hey Chuck, I've got a question and a suggestion for your modified APC PRM4.

After you put the DIN rail clip on, do you paint them? Just FYI, I have
to scrape the paint off to get them to fit on aluminum or steel 35mm
rail. So if you're painting them, I'd say don't.

And Ken turned me on to these: https://www.winford.com/products/dinm15.php
