I figured

I just am waiting for someone to say about the rackinjector something like
"oh my gosh, you shipped a product, and there is documentation. WTF? ".
It's not perfect, but it's something. What is funny is that we have had
about 4 tickets about the rackinjector so far and all of them have been
answered by 'look at the section in the manual titled '. Well
except for the two 'It didn't come with documentation' tickets, one of
which was our screwup (probably forgot to include the paper with the
documentation address on it), and one the customer didn't even bother to
read the paper which said "the manual is at"...

Just giving you grief, btw.
Ive found the better documented products out there are the slowest to
respond to consumer demand.
Id rather deal with crummy product documentation with an awesome userbase
for support than an excellent documentation to a product with zero consumer
response... hell, look at chucks surge suppressors, if he locked his
product to reliable documentation, we wouldnt have the versatility in using
his gear with the pace change in radio vendors, granted cross referencing

The other option is dropping 150 to 800 bucks a pop on transtector nonsense.

Re: [AFMUG] What's next?

2017-09-14 Thread Forrest Christian (List Account)
I have the 12 port GigE PowerInjector on the list where, and when I
don't know yet, but it's on there.

The 20A shunt, I would right now just be happy if I was shipping 5A and 10A
shunts. In the process of changing over... First revision of board, the
thermal design on the 10A shunt needed some more work, so back to the
drawing board (different resistive element). Second revision boards (much
more confidient in), the package showed up, no boards in the package (seems
to have been mispacked in a way that the boards are somewhere loose in some
truck somewhere). So, back to reorder with rush production this time (48
hr turnaround). 96 hours later, the website still shows that it hasn't
started production. Contact them, and they say "sometimes the web site
isn't updated, we're sure it's ok". 2 more days, still no ship
confirmation, and the last 2 emails have gone unanswered. At the same
point, we've run out of backstock, and I really don't want to order more
boards of the old design (since they would be just as long to get here as
the new design).

This is the same supplier we've been using for the last couple of years
with no problems. Go figure.

The USB GPS thing looks like it's going to make sense for us to do this for
in-house purposes (long story, but the short version is we get to reprogram
all of the new Glasnoss capable GPS modules before we can ship them - the
manufacturer isn't going to do it for us any more).

Reset tripped outputs with a clean way to do an snmp alert with a system
like powercode that has zero way to monitor an index would be jesus jizz
too. May have to do another public shaming on powercode for their inability
to deal with indexed snmp will just end up with a menacing followup
call though

Oh, something I forgot. Speaking of the (existing) PDU, it would be nice
to get a software update to auto-reset tripped outputs, like the latest
release of the SyncInjector/PowerInjector firmware. I've never had any
tripped ports/outputs, but the auto-reset makes me sleep better.

-48v PDU.

If it's ok to ask for Unicorns and ponies, give us some kind of port
to port isolation on the PDU so I could mix -V and +V.  Someday you'll
save us all a blown fuse.

Subject: [AFMUG] What's next?

We've been shipping rackinjectors for a couple of weeks now, and
according to staff, all of the rackinjector backlog has been shipped
and we have 1-2 on the shelf and even more to be added to the
stock level shortly.  Yay!

Just wanted to update everyone on the status here for what is next.

The only product I'm actively working on getting out the door is the
"Medusa Board" for the rackinjector which basically will do sync over
power for the 450m and 450i.  I could go into details on where we are
in that process, but that's a topic for another day.

I also have some feature additions that need to be made to the
RackInjector.   The initial update will be timed to correspond to the
release of the Medusa board, unless someone finds a critical bug in
the field and we have to roll a bugfix release.

I'm planning on spending some time (as much as is reasonably needed)
regrouping.  I have quite a few things on my list that we've been
putting off doing just because of hours in the day.   There's a few
products which just need a few hours or TLC before we can start
shipping. There are some manuals/documentation which need to be done.
There's a few minor bug fixes in some of the software (more
shortcomings then bugs)...  And we need to figure out what is next
product wise among the numerous product Ideas which are floating around.

So, now would be a great time to remind me about anything which fits
into the categories above that I might not remember  either via
email or at wispapalooza in just under a month.

If an outsider can vote...

+1 for 20A shunt
+1 for NTP/GPS server, although I'd just like to see it as a

running from all the neighbors houses to run all their soldering irons.
Piles of miller lite cans litter the back yard as forrests lady brings out
trays of soup and sandwiches. Seriously, have a steak man.

If it's ok to ask for Unicorns and ponies, give us some kind of port to
port isolation on the PDU so I could mix -V and +V. Someday you'll save

You know what would be sexy, a half rack rackinjector thats also a halfrack
apc slotcard backplane. Or a 2u with a reversible top/bottom slotcard
backplane. A packetflux/mccowntech hybrid would be puerto rican stripper
level sexy.
Btw, i have a powerinjector thats been in service for a few months that had
a gatorade mishap while raising gear. It fried a 48v power supply, but the
packetflux gear (after pulling the card and letting it sit in the sun) is
operating flawless. Next revision, you should put on the docs that its
gatorade proof.

Your documentation sucks, but thats often a tradeoff on a very robust
product.
