make a large funnel with a deep enclosure for the funnel to fit
on top of so the base of the funnel is inside the drum/enclosure.
place some peanut butter in the base of the drum and coat the
inside of the funnel with teflon oh and yes be sure the
base of the funnel has a large enough hole big enough to allow
them to get in and it must have a neck on the funnel.
Give them a plank to walk over the funnel.
This way the little suckers will fall into the drum and if its
deep enough cant get out.
Or you could get some of the larger rodent traps at farm supply
that do the same thing accept they lay flat on the ground
I dont like catching the big ones that are larger than the trap
cuz they get a little angry.

place some peanut butter in the base of the drum and coat the inside of
the funnel with teflon oh and yes be sure the
base of the funnel has a large enough hole big enough to allow them to
get in and it must have a neck on the funnel.
Give them a plank to walk over the funnel.
This way the little suckers will fall into the drum and if its deep
 enough cant get out.
Or you could get some of the larger rodent traps at farm supply that do

I dont like catching the big ones that are larger than the trap cuz they
 get a little angry.

Re: [AFMUG] Voltage\Amperage on Shielded Cable

2015-05-10 Thread Ken Hohhof
Where are they chewing it? They seem to like platforms. Maybe put the cable
through some flexible conduit or LDPE tubing where the chewing occurs. If cost
is the issue, maybe look around for a good price on irrigation tubing, not sure
how big that comes. A determined squirrel could chew through it, but as your
photos show, they tend to chew a bit one place then try somewhere else. I even
used smurf tube once and while clearly that’s not the best choice it seemed to
work.

There are two little holes spaced apart about as far as a squirrel's tooth

I don't even know what you're saying anymore. You said to run conduit. I said
it would be expensive and complicated, but agreed. You then said conduit would
be cheaper in the long run as if I disagreed (when I didn't). I confirmed that
I agreed. You kept posting as if I was disagreeing with you, but I'm not.

How much voltage\amperage on the cable's shield could the radio handle without

Yeah, that would be better. Squirrels are very inquisitive and persistent
creatures. They would probably bite all your other cables to determine if they
get shocks from all of them. I used to have pear trees. The squirrels would
take one bite out of each green pear to see if it was ripe.

Someone suggested coyote\fox urine.

Then again, I think they might be living in the leg. I saw a decent sized rust

I even
used smurf tube once and while clearly that’s not the best choice it seemed to
work.

How much voltage\amperage on the cable's shield could the radio

cables, I'd like to give them a shocking experience! Hook a cheap
fence charger to the ground wire of the SS chassis? ;-)

Note: I don't actually intend on doing that... not because of the
squirrels, but because I don't wanna jack up the radios.

Re: [AFMUG] Voltage\Amperage on Shielded Cable

2015-05-10 Thread Jeremy
I put conduit and breakout boxes up every tower / silo / grain elevator.
It has been awesome. I run a ton of extra cables and two or three extra
mule tape to each box as well. When the extra cables get used it is cake
to pull a new one, and then I leave the 2nd mule tape in the box and pull
it back through the next time, so there is always one in there. Also, when
it comes time to run fiber to every AP (hey, one can always dream) it will
be super easy. I can't imagine ever building out any other way now. I
started out using grey pvc conduit, but have since graduated to shielded
liqui-tite. The pvc conduit, male adapters, and boxes ran about $100 per
site. The shielded 1 1/2 liqui-tite runs about $400-600 per site.

Let's try this one. Nope. Hey, there's another. Darnit.

Yeah, that would be better. Squirrels are very inquisitive and
persistent creatures. They would probably bite all your other cables to
determine if they get shocks from all of them. I used to have pear trees.
The squirrels would take one bite out of each green pear to see if it was
 ripe.
