Re: [Ai] Representation to RBI for accessible Indian Currency, an update on meeting with RBI

2017-09-21 Thread Ketan Kothari via Ai
Dear Friends,

Extremely good work. I remember having participated in at least 2
meetings of this nature. Unfortunately, not much has yielded. Also,
the problem of coins is equally challenging and is getting worse.

Actually, I feel that we must take up this issue with the minister of
finance as at a certain level, RBI is also bound by executive orders.

With best wishes,

Ketan

should continue sending representations once a month until they address the

[Ai] Want accessible books and study material for some competetive exams

2017-09-21 Thread Santosh Gandigude via Ai
Dear All!
I am preparing for UPSC,State PSC & some other competetive exams.
I want to recommended books, magazines and other study material used by
sighted aspirants in accessible format such as
daisy.epub,text,pdf,rtf,word,doc,zip,xcl etc.
Can anyone give already available accessible competetive exam study
material in CD/DVD or any other platform?
The OCR Software convert the printed books, magazines and other study
materials into the accessible formats, but these softwares are very
expensive and not affordable to lower middle class family student.
I read that there are many visually Impaired preparying for UPSC,state
PSC and other competetive exams.
Thus,it was better to someone create email/whatsapp based group to
discuss some issues and share accessible study material online.
If anyone already created such group, please add me in your group or
suggest some other.
If not created such email or whatsapp based group, now it is right time
to create such group for sharing accessible study material online.

Thanks!

[Ai] Paper of Interest: Personal assistance from family members as an unwanted situation, an optimal solution or an additional good? The Swedish example

2017-09-21 Thread avinash shahi via Ai
Full paper: http://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/09687599.2017.1375900
Abstract

In many countries, such as Canada, the Netherlands, the Nordic
countries and the United Kingdom, the right to personal assistance for
disabled people has been developed and incorporated into legislation
(Autio and Sjöblom 2014 Autio, Anu and Stina Sjöblom. 2014.

Review of the Situation in Six Countries] Discussion paper 38/2014,
National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), Helsinki, Finland. In
Sweden, the Act Concerning Support and Services to Persons with
Certain Functional Impairments, including the right to personal
assistance, came into force in 1994. The intention was to advance
individual support, self-determination and participation in society
for disabled people with comprehensive support needs (SCS 1993 SCS

Services to Persons with Certain Functional Impairments. Stockholm:
Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. Sweden, as well as many other
western countries, is described as an individualistic society where
the importance of individual independence, or autonomy, is stressed.
Accordingly, individuals are expected to be self-sufficient and
welfare rights are ascribed to the individual to promote his or her
autonomy and lessen dependency on families. In spite of this, research
has shown patterns of extensive informal support for older people and
strong norms of family solidarity in Sweden as well as the other
Nordic countries (Daatland and Lowenstein 2005 Daatland, S. O., and

needs long served as a basis for conceptualizing disabled people as
passive and dependent (Fine and Glendinning 2005 Fine, Michael, and

Recorded message for man ki bar.

Hi
Some reported they are getting invalid number. Airtel is one of them. In
that case, try with any other service provider.

All

BGFI team, would appraise the list, regarding, yesterday's meeting with RBI.
However, there is lots of work for us to do and we need to pick up every
channel to make ourselves heard.
We need to now call up Man-Ki-Bath toll free number and tell how these new
notes has created problem to us in our own ways. The number is 1800117800.
This has to be done latest 20 Sept today.

Pl join in large numbers and ask everyone you know to speak on this.
Harish Kotian.

[Ai] Facilities for visually impaired students in ISIs and TIFR.

2017-09-21 Thread Shakul Raj Sonker via Ai
Dear All,
I want to know the academic environment for a visually impaired
student at Indian statistical Institute and Tata Institute of
Fundamental research.
Currently I'm 3rd year undergraduate of mathematics at Ashoka
university and want to apply for M.maths at ISI and graduate School
program at TIFR.
If anyone of you have any experiences about these institutes, could
you please let me know?
My questions are: are they supportive? Do the faculty cooperate with
VI students? Can I expect to get all my study material in accessible
format?
Waiting for your response!
Regards.

Re: [Ai] Representation to RBI for accessible Indian Currency, an update on meeting with RBI

2017-09-21 Thread Shireen Irani via Ai
That's great. at least a dialog has been initiated. And there is no
disregard for our issues. the only things in the way are practical
barriers in the implementation. I also feel that our concerns may not
be addressed now, but the next time that new notes are issued. since
they've already spent krores of rupees on these new notes it is not
practical to expect them to get those out of circulation. so what is
needed now is a more long-term, on-going engagement with them, so that
we remain on their mind whenever they print new currency. not sure how
that can happen, but at least the people employed within RBI could
remain on top of things and perhaps keep engaging with them in some
way to ensure that they are consulted before the next round.

Shireen.
