Well, I cannot confirm this with my selection of websites. 
First, could you please try with a newer build lie official OOo 3.1.1. You
stated to use OOO300m1 which is an RC of OOo 3.0 and quite outdated.

I just discovered that we can undo changes on the chart only once the chart
object is active, and from there we do the undo command.   But if it is
inactive, the spreadsheet undo command will not undo the changes made on the

Reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.2.0 multilingual version German UI WIN XP:
[OOO320m2 (Build 9432)]"!

Works fine with "Ooo 3.1.1 WIN XP DE-multilingual version German UI activated
[OOO310m19 (Build 9420)]"!

No idea how that works, but it's something with the document name, after I
renamed to "xx.ods" copy / paste to writer worked fine, after I renamed back to
old name the problem was visible again.

finished I saved the document and closed it. Later I re-opened the document and
most of the information contained within it was missing and I could no longer
edit text. I would like to attach the document I was working on and the original

The UNDO command does not include actions done when changing the chart data 
ranges.

I created a XY Scatter chart.  Do some text changes on the spreadsheet (not on
the chart object). Edit the chart data range. Try undoing the changes.  It
skipped the data range action.

Paste has stopped working.

That's it. I restarted my PC but no go.

It seemed to coincide with Writer crashing . I had pasted material from a web
page and requested "Save", and Writer crashed. It was unable to reconstruct the
whole document, losing the latest pasted data. 

Now it won't paste at all. I cannot find clipboard anywhere to attempt to clear
it and retry the paste. I do not have MS Office installed.

Making this a list property could work, but it would be better as a general
paragraph feature--consider the analogous case of multiple subtitles (as in a
course syllabus, where you may want a subtitle with the course number and
another with the class time). The layout would look better (in my opinion, at
least) with no space between the subtitles, but a space after. As it stands now,
this requires two different styles rather than just one.

Hi. I am sorry not following up closely. You know, this can happen, I have a
business to run other than maintaining ooo and sometimes gets rather busy with
it. Thanks you all for the follow up and testing. I now switched to another
computer and after half a year looking back this issue I myself couldn't
reproduce it any more, with 3.1. So I also think this issue should be closed.

Especially thank you guys from redflag not only having chased the problem but
also invited us (linux user group) for beer in the last year:)

Just for your information the font I used "Droid Sans Fallback" is in ttf-droid
package in case you use Ubuntu. It also can happen this was a bug in the font
which was fixed in font project upsteam.

Is this an issue anymore? You still can't use more than one named print range at
a time in 3.3 but maybe you shouldn't be able to? 

What about printing out separate pages of selected named print ranges from a
very large spreadsheet? I think that might be a useful thing to do. Then you set
up multiple named print ranges to be printed out in one print run rather than
doing each named print range at a time.

Just some thoughts.

Have downloaded file, installed and thoroughly approve of the way you have
changed the print dialog in calc. It certainly addressed my concerns to make the
printing process transparent to unsophisticated users. Tried it out with my use

In the new printer dialog, the user is able to enter page numbers for the print
preview (e.g. entering 25 directly shows the 25th page of the printout).

Issue: Some people might use Return or Enter to confirm the entered number, but
this does not change the print preview, it directly executes printing. This
should be avoided, since the likeliness of mistakes is high.

Rationale: This is different to other elements in the print dialog, e.g. the
manual print ranges definition. Since the print preview might be used to look
what pages to print, pressing Enter is - from the user's point-of-view - a
disaster, because print jobs (especially large ones) cannot be sufficiently
aborted (think of network printers in businesses). It is also costly, so our
product may get blamed...

Proposal: Ignore Return/Enter when the focus is in the number field of the print
preview.

1- Install dictionaries for Spanish and Italian.
2- Set the language for two different paragraphs: one in Italian, the other in
Spanish.
3- In the Italian paragraph, type the word "raccomandare"
4- In the Spanish paragraph start typing the word "racimo"
Result:
When you type “rac” in the Spanish paragraph, autocorrect suggest "raccomandare"
which is wrong because you are typing in the Spanish paragraph, not in the
Italian paragraph.

This is a problem for translators when the languages are akin. The problem is
also present if you have two documents opened at the same time, one in each
language.

Alright, here is my official confirmation that this bug has been caused by the
plugin dmath, although I uninstalled it after a really short time. I finished my
document today with the total number of 424 formulas! :)

I downloaded the installation files (OOo_3.1.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-
US.exe) and when I tried to install, the following error was displayed:

Error 1330: A fiel that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet 
file openofficeorg1.cab has an invalid digital signature.  This may indicate 
that the cabinet file is corrupt.

What should I do?

I tried to save a writer document that had a lot of text and pictures(long 
laboratory report).

I need to recover the text of the document. OpenOffice had a problem trying to 
save the file. It was saved numerous times before the failue, and the document 
became corrupt at the last save I made. I tried the recovery method and it

Hi PL! For keeping the user informed, let's differentiate two different things:
a) Printing via dialog
b) Direct printing (keyboard shortcut, toolbar icon)

For a), there is no need for a modal dialog since we directly show the print
result to the user. As I proposed earlier, the "contextual information bar" may
be additionally helpful [1] and non-distracting (for several use cases).

For b), there is no way to tell the user what is going on. Here, the modal
dialog is one solution (although still a bad solution, since modal dialogs
interrupt the workflow). Imagine, a user accidentally selected an area without
content and prints via shortcut. He goes to the printer (e.g. the workgroup
printer in a business environment) and waits ... until he realizes something is
wrong. Here, a message like at [2] would be both helpful and non-distracting.

Proposed steps to resolve that issue:
1. Introduce the warning dialog for Calc for OOo 3.3 (for direct printing)
2. Clarify with the application owners if we can agree on a common behavior
Assuming that we have an agreement...
3. Implement the contextual information bar in the print dialog
4. Implement dialogs (or an alternative solution) for direct printing

I have been able to replicate some of this behavior on OOO320m2, but under very
specific conditions only.

Steps to reproduce:
1) create and save a presentation in MS PowerPoint
2) open the ppt document in Impress
3) navigate to View > Master > Slide Master
4) click on the master, ensuring that the cursor is visible within the text
(i.e. not only the text is selected but an area within the text is selected).
5) navigate to Format > Bullets and Numbering
6) select the Customize tab

At this point the preview displays the reported behavior (first bullet indented,
>> replaces bullet symbol).  See attached screenshot (preview.jpg)

7) select level 1-10
8) change the bullet color
9) click OK button

At this point the reported behavior is visible on the master.  See attached
screenshot (master,jpg).  As per the second reported aspect of this bug, only
the first bullet (rather than all) change color.  

I was however able to back all these changes out using the undo button.  The
misconfiguration may also be corrected using the other tabs available on
"Bullets and Numbering".

Conditions under which I was NOT able to reproduce:
i) document created in Impress.
ii) bullet customization performed by selecting the text object as a whole
rather than a point or selection within (see step 4)
iii) ppt document which had been opened and saved in odp format prior to
performing bullet customization
iv) ppt document for which a single successful bullet customization has already
been performed (i.e. with the text object as a whole selected).

I attach copies of my test presentations, both pre and post this issue.

Hi PL! To make it clear, this is about the "last entered page number", not the
"last page number". The user will be able to see the pages he is composing right
in the print preview.

Example: A student wants to review some pages of his essay - namely the pages
between introduction and summary. He enters the page number in the field "Pages"
and instantly sees if the page fits (e.g. 6). Then he enters "-" (the print
preview is kept) and then he enters the expected last page (e.g. 72). Even here,
is is able to check whether this is correct. If not, he may easily correct it
(e.g. 71).

Basically, it is "just" a great simplification to check manually entered page
ranges :-)

All dialog boxes containing a type-in text field do not have the type-in field 
tall enough to properly display the text.  Descenders are truncated at the

It's a freeze. It freezes as soon as I click the OPEN button in the import-meue
or or drop the file carried over by drag&drop. It freeses with either the
loading-menue or the icon of the pdf and remains frozen, no matter what I do or

Menu "File" > Open
Put something into spotlight search field (upper right corner of the
file picker window)
select a OOo-file from search result and click "open" to open it.

The file will not be opened and OOo kind of freezes - i.e. selecting a
menu entry works (menus open etc.) but nothing happens when a menu
command is selected.

"Quit" after a few minutes brings up the beachball cursor and then
crashes into Document Recovery where it gets stuck ,sometimes doing the actions 
(i.e. openíng a new 
document or command window) which have been requested after freeze.

Monitor). Works perfect: 
Starting OOo 3.1.1 when only the external Monitor is used (lid closed), the A4 
page opens at 100% and is 
A4 on the Monitor (you may cover it with a page of paper - it fits), all 
controls are the right size...

well.  Thanks very much for the assistance. I haven't used OpenOffice because of
this issue.  Since I would classify your solution as a workaround, I think we
need to leave this issue open for development to fix: either the default
registry entries have to be changed during installation or the code that deals
with them needs to handle the quotes.  Again, thanks very much for finding a

I am a part of a group of students (from Ecole Centrale de Nantes too) who are 
taking care of the 
integration of this patch in the trunk.

It's still a work in progress. Olivier and Fred did a great work, but it 
matches not yet openoffice 
standards. Then we are fixing that ;)

I had to conclude the SUN odf plugin 3.1 from http://www.sun.com/software/star/
odf_plugin/get.jsp have exactly the same bug. Evidently it shares the same 
buggy code with OOo.

I cannot confirm it for a HP Color LaserJet. Perhaps your printer is not able to
do it correctly. For those cases there is the check box "Create single print
jobs for collated output" on the "Options" tab.

The problem seems to be caused by the quotes used in the registry entries.

If you look at the entry

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C52AF81D-F7A0-4AAB-8E87-F80A60CCD396}\InprocServer32]

you'll see that the default value is:

"C:\Program Files\OpenOffice.org 3\Basis\program\shlxthdl\shlxthdl.dll"

If you remove the quotes from this (and the other entries in the registry) then
the problem goes away and you can see the shlxthdl.dll file being loaded
correctly using Systinternals' Procmon.

I agree with all the above observations: the system (OO 3.1.1, running under
Windows Vista) is unable to handle relative URLs – and this is, for me, a major
problem (sufficient to rule out the use of Open Office).

It seems that this bug, or a closely related one, has been present in OO since,
at least, version 2.2. Its roots seem to lie in a muddled and unclear
specification of the functionality that is desired, and in the accretion of
layers of bolted-on fixes that have attempted to address one or other aspect of
the problem. To identify just three of these:

1.It is curious the way that the means to specify whether a link is to be
interpreted in relative or absolute terms (within an original OO document, or
within its pdf or its html derivitives) is specified in a remote Options box.
Since, in general, one will be using both relative and absolute links in and
between a set of documents, it would seem much more natural that the choice of
relative or absolute be specified at the same time as each link is specified.
(Given this separation, it is not clear at what stage the absolute/relative
status is bound to the link: suppose one creates a link and then, at a later
stage, changes the absolute/relative status in the Option box, will this affect
the link -- or will it only affect links created in the future? And is it
intended that the link created in OO works in the same way in both pdf and HTML
derivitives of the OO document, or are these independent choices?).

2. Another feature I find surprising is that Tools => Options => Load/Save =>
General leads to an option box which presents, as *independent* choices: "Save
URLs relative to file system" and "Save URLs relative to internet". Surely these
should be mutually exclusive choices? (And what, in fact, is "Save URLs relative
to the internet" intended to mean?)

3. And yet another curious aspect is that there appear to be two independent
ways of specifying a hyperlink: either to click the hyperlink button on the main
toolbar (which drops down a box giving a set of options) or alternatively, to
follow Format => Character => Hyperlink, which leads to an apparently unrelated
mechanism for inserting a hyperlink. Is one a simplified version of the other,
or do the two mechanisms perform distinct roles?

The actual task (to be able to generate both relative and absolute URLs) is an
almost trivially simple one, and does not need anything like such an elaborate
set of mechanisms as are presently in place. The best solution would be to begin
by writing a clear, simple specification of how relative and absolute URLs
should be handled (both in OO documents, and in any pdf and html derivitive
documents),  stripping out the existing mechanism (including the various options
scattered around the place) in its entirety, and replacing it with a simple,
clean implementation.
