I will point out that an intermediate solution would be to make an OOo Extension for this. With the functionality already in the OOo API, this is a relatively straightforward task of defining an export dialog in the Dialog editor and hooking it up to the high-resolution-export Basic macro, then adding a toolbar/menu item to activate it. The OOo integration with the Extensions repository makes is fairly easy to find and install enxtensions, so this is a much better solution than saying hey, edit and run this macro, and no specification is required. Previously when I've attempted to make extensions, I've always failed when I tried to package it up (figuring out the addons.xcu file is hard), however there is now an Addons Builder extension which should simplify this. Next time I'm in the mood, I may try this (but don't hold your breath as I've many other things higher up on my todo list!) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. When pasting graphics from Draw to Writer (or Impress-to-writer), the default paste method is paste as drawing objects. This is a poor default, since pasting in this way results in a figure which cannot be scaled (because scaling doesn't change the line widths or fonts in proportion). To get nice scaling behaviour, you must paste as GDI-metafile (not editable) or OLE-object. I useful enhancement would be a configuration option to set the default paste-method for each type of document/object. Thus, I could avoid always having to use the paste-special menu and could just ctrl-V directly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 80653] OOoMath document metafile representations using StarSymbol font

This font doesn't exist anywhere but OOo itself is presumably replacing it with something else, since the formulas display OK in OOo. However, MS-Word doesn't know to do this, so equations cannot be passed to MS-Office docuements. You can verify this by copying a OOoMaths object (containing symbols) into OOoDraw, Break the object and examine the font for each of the symbols. The solution would be to change the hard-coded references to StarSymbol (I not saying this is trivial mind). Right now, it's all but impossible to get equations between OOo and Word. Even MathType objects don't work at first, because the OLE metafile representation itself is broken (you need to open the object with Mathtype, to force a regeneration of the metadata). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is a problem because I want to send a stored function query to a postgresql database; OOo cannot parse such a query, so it must be send in Native mode (which works in other situations like in Base queries). Here's a basic script to show what I'm doing: Sub Main dbRange = ThisComponent.DatabaseRanges.getByName(mydbRange) desc() = dbRange.ImportDescriptor desc(0).Name = DatabaseName desc(0).Value = MyDB desc(1).Name = SourceType desc(1).Value = com.sun.star.sheet.DataImportMode.SQL desc(2).Name = SourceObject desc(2).Value = select * from generate_series(0,10); desc(3).Name = IsNative desc(3).Value = True dbRange.getReferredCells.doImport(desc()) End Sub This macro fails with Syntax error in SQL expression. Since OOo already ships with the hsqldb.jar included, this contains the hsqldb server. If the OpenOffice.org package set included a small application (with menu launcher) to launch instances of the hsqldb server (as a service on Windows, or daemon on *nix), this would be a wonderful way of providing SOHO users with a multi-user networked RDBMS system (avoiding the hassle of setting up and administrating MySQL/Postgresql etc.). Furthermore, OOo offers the most features with hsql so this is a good match (MySQL lacks relationships and the postgresql drivers are sub-par). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I've tried both the 8.1 and 8.2 jdbc drivers. I'm using Sun JRE 1.5.0_9. For a numeric field, the error dialog says: ERROR: column xxx is of type numeric but expression is of type character varying I get a similar error with 'money' fields. Basically, it's impossible to handle currency with JDBC and postgresql. The table data types appear correctly identified if I open the Edit Table dialog. [sw-issues] [Issue 60498] New - Floating frames/grap hics poorly positioned across page breaks
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=60498 Issue #:|60498 Summary:|Floating frames/graphics poorly positioned across |page breaks Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0.1 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|formatting Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|bryancole --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Fri Jan 13 12:03:04 -0800 2006 --- If a floating frame/graphic/object is anchored to a paragraph and that paragraph spans a page, the frame is always placed on the first page, even when this is clearly a bad placement. Objects automatically forced onto the earlier page in this way are placed at the bottom edge of the page, outside the text margin area. In this position, they will obscure the footer or footnotes, if present (for all wrap settings) 1. The objects should never be automatically placed outside the text area (although it should be possible to manually place objects there). Objects should certainly never obscure the footer / footnotes. 2. If objects achored to a paragraph cannot fit in the space between the top of the paragraph and the bottom margin of the page, they should be placed at the top of the next page (with anchor point moved to the top left of the next page, mid paragraph, to indicate this). Note, it is possible to drag the anchor point to this position but it is always automatically repositioned when the user releases it. Following is a document to illustrate this: the document has two main text paragraphs and a single frame anchored to the second paragraph. The frame doesn't fit at the top of the second paragraph so should be placed at the top of teh next page. However, it is impossible to achieve this; the frame is always placed at the bottom edge of the first page, blocking the footnote and probably lying outside the page print area. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This method is clearly described in the Help text (and indeed worked well in the OOo-1.X series). If I create a few paragraphs, apply a style, then set a numbering style in that paragraph style, no numbering is shown. The only way I can get paragraph numbering on is to manually turn it on for each paragraph using the Numbering icon. [framework-issues] [Issue 49991] Allow embedding SVG vecto r graphics into all documents.
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=49991 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jun 23 02:25:29 -0700 2005 --- I just checked the OASIS spec - (page 298, see http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/12572/OpenDocument-v1.0-os.pdf) Images can be stored in arbitrary format (with a specified filter name). However, the spec recommends that vector graphics are stored as SVG and bitmaps in PNG. Thus this seems to allow the treatment of SVGs just like PNGs: embed them in the 'Pictures' sub-directory of the document and provide an xlink:href to it (either internal or external) and give it a new filter-type which can render SVG for direct display (like a bitmap). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. (I.e. in Writer, select Insert-Object-OLE Object-Create From File, and check the new Link to File box) I guess this is because the OLE/URL system has no means of specify which DrawPage to display. In OOo-v1.1.x OLE linking was not possible and all embedded Draw/Impress documents had just a single page, by definition. However, external Draw/Impress files can obviously have more than one page. For example, if you create a table at the very top of a page, you can add a line-break between the table and the top of the page by entering Return in the top-left cell of the table. However, you cannot perform the logical reverse of this operation: it's not possible to select the return character immediately before the table, to delete it. The best one can do is select the entire table and drag-n-drop it to the top of the page. However, this alway duplicates the table, rather than simply moving it, so the use still need to delete the extra table. In fact, this operation is also error-prone: the new table has an identical name to the old one (this shouldn't be allowed surely?) and although the table structure is copied, the table contents are moved (i.e. the old table contents are removed). I'll attach a simple .odt doc to illustrate. BC - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I'll attach it to this issue. I've tested the macro and it really works! You can set both pixel resolution and 'logical' resolution. Why isn't this functionality exposed in the user-interface ?? This is a crucial feature for any vector-drawing application. This proves that no major internal reworking of the graphics system is required to make this work. There's no excuse now ... The BMP export filter has GUI-elements for setting the resolution but these are broken. The other raster formats (PNG/JPEG/TIFF etc.) have no such options. It's a problem for me; it may be a problem for others. By closing the issue, you remove the opportunity for others to vote or comment on this. b) I'd like to propose an alternative solution: Move the docked windows _inside_ the tabbed notebook pages. This way, if docked windows vanish (because they are no longer relevent), at least the tabs themselves do not move (this is the correct behaviour for a notebook UI anyway - tab selection should *not* affect elements outside the notebook page). If all windows are floating there would be no change in behaviour from the current one. As a heavy Impress user, I've found that chasing the tabs across the top of the page according to context (Normal or Slide-sorter view) is very fatiguing. I'm sure the current behaviour meets the spec, but what if the spec is wrong? I accept there are no resources to address this in the short term, but please don't brush the issue aside. This is my last word on the subject. If you still feel the issue should be closed I'll leave it at that. PS. Sorry for pestering you on this. [ui-issues] [Issue 43860] New - context dependent toolbars cause exessive resizing of page and contents
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=43860 Issue #:|43860 Summary:|context dependent toolbars cause exessive resizing of |page and contents Component:|ui Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|sba Reported by:|bryancole --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Mar 2 02:53:50 -0800 2005 --- When context-sensitive toolbars are docked, their apprearance and disappearance causes the current page to be resized. This causes serious useablility problems for various situations. One example is for Form Design, in Writer. In form-edit-mode, when controls have focus, the Formatting toolbar (which is normally docked at the top of the page) is removed. This causes the entire page to jump up every time a control is selected. When editing a document containing a mixture of text and controls, this continual resizing becomes very tiring. Another example is in Draw. When a poly-line object is selected in Edit-Points mode, the Line and Filling toolbar is removed, causing the page to jump up. Again, this is very tiring for the user, to have their objects jump around in front of them. In OOo-1.1.x, this toolbar was automatically replaced by the Edit Points toolbar so resizing was avoided. One solution in this case is to have the Edit Points toolbar docked by default so whenever the LineFill toolbar is removed, it is replaced by a relevent alternative. The same issue occurs with glue-point edit mode, and the Gluepoints toolbar. Obviously, this problem is worse when large icons are used on a small display. However, just use smaller icons would not be a correct resolution for those of us with less-than-perfect eyesight! I guess the current behaviour meets the spec, so I must wait for the spec to be revised before we see any work to address this. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. If there are two movies in a slide, both start playing together. 2 things are necessary: a) A means of showing the Media Toolbar during a slide show, so the presenter can manually start/stop/rewind a media clip b) integration with the object effects system, so that media objects can be activated in a pre-determined time-line, like other object effects Without a means of controlling it, the media player is largely useless for any professional presentations. If it is necessary to make a small change to the drawing object, it must be edited in-place (there's no other way!). However, there's no way to zoom in the view during in-place editing, so making small-scale changes becomes almost impossible. I suggest an Edit in New Window function be offered in addition to the in-place editing. This way, OLE objects can be edited with full view/zoom adjustment. An alternative to this would be to allow other OOo components to be linked in, rather than embedded. For example, for a large document, I would like to have all text and formating in a single Writer file and all drawings in a single OO-Draw file, with all drawing linked in to the text document from this file. Thus, to edit the drawing in the text document, I'd just edit the OO-Draw file. At present, only bitmap graphics can be linked in. OO-Draw object *must* be embedded. This leads to duplication of the drawing data (it exists once in the original oo-draw file and once embedded in the Writer document). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
