jumbo444-TL: I knew this workaround. The problem is that user may falsely
accused dictionary extension to not detect some errors.

Hello,

Since OOo 3.3, oracle.dic is added at installation time as personal dictionary.
Then a lot of words are considered as correct in all languages.
For instance in French:
Education instead of Éducation
Edition instead of Édition
Enterprise instead of Entreprise
and so on.

Either this dictionary should be removed or at least it contains too many words.

I built first document testMailMergeWithBullet.odt with Page field from
Bibliography data base, and a line with a bullet.

When I merged with OOo 3.3.0 RC6 on WinXP (fr), I got
testMailMergeWithBullet-Merged.odt file. From page 2, there bullets on all
lines. Only a bullet on the last paragraph was expected.

Is it more clear?

Hello,

When you make a mail merge, if the last paragraph of the starting document
contain bullet, than bullets will be add to all paragraphs, starting from the
2nd record.
Steps to reproduce:
- new writer document
- insert a field from a data base
- add a 2nd paragraph, with bullet; 1st paragraph remains without bullet
- select print command; answer Yes to print a form letter
- print merged document
= printed document contains bullets on all paragraph from 2nd record

To avoid this, you need to add an empty paragraph without bullet at the end of
the starting document (set character size at 2 if needed to keep page layout).

This is a regression from previous version.

Hello,

I love automatic decimal (CWS koheiautodecimal
https://tools.services.openoffice.org/EIS2/cws.ShowCWS?logon=falseId=8942Path=DEV300%2Fkoheiautodecimal)

However, it seems it is not compatible with Precision as shown option.
Steps to reproduce:
- in ToolsOptionsOOo CalcCalculate, check Precision as shown option, and
uncheck Limit decimals for general number format option
- enter a decimal value such as =PI()
= you get 0!

Found in OOo330m14 (RC4) on WinXP

@m95vebj: very good point for your functions! Much better than LINEST function.
I noticed a slight difference of the coefficients from the 8th figure, of
compared with MS-Excel calculation.

I hope it could be integrated in CorelPolyGUI extension.

Hello,

I am pleased to inform you that Marcin Gutman has build an extension based on
Laurent Godard's macro CorelPoly. It can be downloaded at

It is not the solution of this issue but it looks, from my point of view, has a
good workaround.

Please add your comments on this extension NOT HERE, but on extension web-page.
Comments and users feedback are welcome.

Hello,

As exposed above, workarounds already exist: LINEST function, template file
attached to this issue.
As resolution inside OOo code will take a long time, an extension is in
preparation to propose a new solution. However, it is not yet ready due to
inversion of matrix in particular cases. To see what I mean, just test this
example with corelpoly template (or with http://www.xuru.org/rt/PR.asp#CopyPaste
) with a 3rd order polynomial:
XY
20002577
20022870
20043197
20063049
20083422
20104007

Fitted values are negative! :-(
Just be patient, I will post here when the extension will be publicly
available.

Actually, LINEST gives positive values for fitted values. It is then the best
solution in this case.

CorelPoly macro from Laurent Godard (see template attached to this issue) is
more user friendly than LINEST but is useless in this case. However, with less
severe values (decrease 2000 to all X values in my previous example), it works
very well.

The goal of the future extension is to gather the benefit of both workarounds.
But I agree, it is only a workaround, not the solution of this issue.

Hello,

When testing insertion of automatic non breaking space for French (issue 17169),
it does not work if a double punctuation is inserted at the second place at the
beginning of a paragraph. An example may be more understandable. Type with
French settings:
De: moicarriage return
À: lui

You get
Denbsp: moicarriage return
À: lui

You should get a non breaking space between À and :

Have a good day.

@of: it sounds a good idea but it does not work as expected by user.

The situation may be specific to French language, but it is due to orthographic
reform which is not compulsory and very slow to be adopted. There are then
several dictionaries according to which orthography you follow: only classic,
only reformed, classic and reformed (both orthographies are considered correct)
or modern (only one orthography is correct according to common acceptance).
The bundled French dictionary considers both classic and reformed orthographies
correct.

If you install another French dictionary, as shared or user, both orthographies
are still considered correct. User wants only one of the two to be correct.
Test with OOO330_m4 on WinXP.

Hello,
@warrenf: target milestone is 3.3. So the bug is present in all 3.2 versions
(even 3.2.1).
As mentioned previously, the patch is included in CWS impress192. To know if it
will be included in OOo-dev, check:
http://tools.services.openoffice.org/EIS2/?
Child WorkSpaces Search: Name=impress192
As column Milestone integrated is empty, you have to wait a little more to
test with OOo-dev. Another way is to build your own OOo with this CWS.
Have a good day.

Hello,

I tested the new feature automatic decimal (CWS koheiautodecimal
https://tools.services.openoffice.org/EIS2/cws.ShowCWS?logon=falseId=8942Path=DEV300%2Fkoheiautodecimal)
in DEV300m80 and DEV300m81 and it works quite great!

However if absolute value is less than 1e-10, then a faulty brute 0 is
displayed. It should indicate value with scientific notation.
I add a file with the expected behaviour.

Hello,

It's a very annoying bug, when you want to spread OOo through a presentation...

However, there is a trick for OOo-dev 3.3 to get the right page numbers :
- in handout view, insert an animated gif (no static gif, neither bmp, png or
jpg)
- hide it behind a white rectangle without border

That's all !

Works with DEV300m74 but NOT with OOO320_m14. Tested on WinXP

Hello,

With chart containing several series, if you add one regression curve (trend
line) per data series, and ask display of each equation, you will get several
equation without information about which curve it corresponds to.

User may be able to check an option in Trend Line dialog box, to show legend
text with equation and coefficient of determination:
Trend Line dialog box = Type Equation:
X Show equation
X Show coefficient of determination
X Show legend text

Attached file present how it may look after insertion of legend text.

However, this issue requires file format evolution as for other regression curve
improvements: issues 20819, 66819, 5085, 34093

Hello,

Many thanks for this CWS. It will be a great improvement for French speaking
users.
You may have a look to macros included in the French spacing extension
http://extensions.services.openoffice.org/project/insecable
which treats all cases : change soft space before double punctuation, treat
exceptions such as http://, treat correctly succession of double punctuation...
See http://user.services.openoffice.org/fr/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26t=10030 for
a discussion (in French) about all cases.

Hello,

Here is a procedure to reproduce the bug.
OOo 3.1.1 RC1 or DEV300_m55 on Win XP-SP3
- create a new Draw document
- insert JPG, PNG and BMP file
- crop them
- insert one page before
- add an object in this first page
- save file in ODF
- File Reload
= JPG and BMP look wrong in left part preview, PNG seems OK
- go to page 2, and everything go back OK
BUT
- go to page 1
- File Reload
- move object on page 1
- save file
- go to page 2
= all images are definitively distorted.

Hello,

This problem is still present with OOO310_m15 and DEV300_m52.

Hidden text is printing or not depends only if you _see_ even a little part of
the page, no matter if text is visible or not. It works entire page by entire

Hello,

Testing for issue 89866 (hidden text), I noticed the problem of lost settings,
BUT if you set it twice, settings are saved :
- open or create a document
- File Print, Options
- check some settings (hidden text, print black, text placeholder, reversed,
brochure, create single jobs,...)
- OK, OK
= printing
- File Print, Options
= Settings are lost
- check some settings (same or different)
- OK, OK
= printing
- File Print, Options
Last settings are saved !

Then save file, close it, open it
- File Print, Options
= some settings are lost:
- hidden text not saved
- text placeholder not saved
- all other saved

On WinXP-SP3 with DEV300_m52, OOo 3.1.0 (OOO310_m11) and OOO310_m15.

Hello,

It seems to be the same problem as modification in master page not visible :
- create new presentation
- add title
- go to master page
- change title color, font, size...
- quit master page
= title did not change
same behavior with OOo3.1.0 and OOo-dev32m49

This is dramatic if you want to rapidly change color contrast due to light in
the room for projection few seconds before presentation.

Easy workaround is to save and reload document.

[graphics-issues] [Issue 20819] add polynomial regression type

Hello,

I am looking for help about user experience with polynomial regression curve. As
said previously by Ingrid, we need file format modification prior been able to
solve this issue.
Please join graphics mailing list to discuss about what is needed. A first draft
has been written for a file format change in ODF, in order to be able to add
polynomial regression curve. It is obvious that asking a file format change only
for polynomial regression curve is unproductive. That's why the proposition
include other important issues for regression curve:
- moving average trend line (issue 66819)
- force intercept (issue 34093)
- extrapolate (issue 5085)

Do you see some other features that are missing to trend lines? I made
the comparison with MS-Excel only, but other spreadsheets may have
interesting features. We need argument to obtain file format modification. Since
how long do other spreadsheets have polynomial trend lines? Which concrete
applications do you have with polynomial trend line, not only in maths and
physics? ...

With this four first features, there are things that should be discussed
before asking to OASIS TC a file format change:
- polynomial trend line: exponential terms is an option, but is it
necessary?
- moving average trend line: by default it is prior moving average. What
about adding central moving average? Is it necessary, or will there be
too many parameters, most of them useless?

Many thanks in advance for your answers on graphics mailing list.

Hello,

Picture used in trend line dialog box for power regression type is wrong :
resource regpow.png
Power trend line has the same shape as exponential trend line but not so sharpen
as exponential.
Regpow.png may correspond to polynomial trend line (issue 20819).
It is a very old bug from the early versions of OOo and SO.

Picture may look like the one I send just after.

Hello,

Gathering information about polynomial trend line, I noticed that (again)
solution is in front our eyes.
An easy way to get polynomial trend line equation is given in Help of trend line
dialog box : simply use LINEST function, with proper construction of X data.
From Help :
The polynomial regression equation
A polynomial regression curve cannot be added automatically. You must calculate
this curve manually.
Create a table with the columns x, x², x³, … , xⁿ, y up to the desired degree
n.
Use the formula =LINEST(Data_Y,Data_X) with the complete range x to xⁿ (without
headings) as Data_X.
The first row of the LINEST output contains the coefficients of the regression
polynomial, with the coefficient of xⁿ at the leftmost position.

@aveldro : as mentioned above, it is useless to ask for a feature if you do not
vote for it. With only 36 votes, it is less than 41 votes for bubble charts for
instance. So developers may focus only on what is more asked...

Hello,

From my point of view, the presentation attached to this issue is not exactly
about the same subject : this issue deals with Go to document interaction,
gotopage.odp uses Go to page or object interaction, which was working when I
opened this issue.

However, I tested with OOO300m3 and all interactions work fine. This issue

My OS is WinXP
I checked again with OOo 2.4.0 with a new profile :
units of line go back to cm, only if Calc document is created after text
document. If Calc document already exists when text document is created, units
of line remain in inches. You need to create a new Calc document and go back to
text document to have unit in cm.

Hello,

To reproduce the bug :
- close all Calc applications
- create new text document
- Insert Object Chart
- Select an object in the chart (axis, series, grid,...)
- Format Object properties
Line width is in inches instead of cm according to my settings (French, France).
Other units are OK (icon's width and height of a data series with lines and
points).
- create a new Calc document
- go back to text document with embedded chart, and ask for properties of an
object
= Line width is correctly in cm.

Bug exists also in 2.4.0 and DEV300m14.
Conversion from inches to cm is correct.

[sw-issues] [Issue 89866] Hidden character not alway s printed

The bug does not occur if you _see_ even a small part of the page containing the
paragraph with hidden text.
The bug does not occur if the hidden text is inside a paragraph which start on a
visible page OR which is at the top of next non visible page.
The bug requires that none part of the paragraph containing hidden text should
be on a visible page.

Well, I'm not sure I'm clear enough. Let's take an example :
- page 1 is only visible
- a part (or all) of a paragraph on page 2 has hidden text
= if this paragraph start on page 1 or start at the top of page 2, hidden text
will be printed (if asked of course) : no bug. To see the bug, this paragraph
must start somewhere below the top of the second page.

An easy work around is either to print in different steps, or to reduce zoom so
that you can see all the document.

Hello,

To reproduce :
- create a new ODT document
- add bullet with toolbar button
- add text
- save document
- close document
- open document with OOo 2.4.0
= bullet and text are stick to the left margin.
To get the correct position of bullets, you have to remove and add again bullets
in OOo 2.4.0.

The effect is more visible with hierarchical bullets.
Remarks :
* The problem occurs if saved with ODF 1.0/1.1 or with ODF 1.2.
* No problem with bullets built with OOo 2.4.0, open and saved with BEA_300.
* Same problem with bullets built through styles. But it is no more possible to
get the correct position of bullets in OOo 2.4.0 because styles have been
modified.

Hello,

Steps to reproduce the bug :
- create new word processor document
- modify page style with columns with different width AND some border
for instance 3 columns with width : 3cm, 8cm, 4cm and 1cm between each column
and a thin border on the left and on the right
= everything seems OK
- reopen page style, choose column tab = column widths are modified to 4.98 cm
each and 1cm between columns.

This does not occur if page style has no border. From discussion on
http://user.services.openoffice.org/fr/forum/ftopic9581.html, it seems to be
previous to 2.4.0.

Hello,

There is an easy work around :
- build the chart with 2D
- double clic on series Options
- modify Spacing (espacement in French, not sure about the right term): 0% means
no space between bars
- right clic on the chart Chart type
- select 3D
= width between bars are kept

You need to go back to 2D chart to modify it.

Have a good day.

I try to understand why this type of regression was not developped previously. I
noticed that all other types only need two variables to be calculated.
Polynomial regression requires (n+1) variables. Is it the stopper point of this
issue ?

Hello,

Insert data like these :

Label ; Value
a ; 5
b ; 0

Create pie chart = you get only legend without pie

There should be a pie with 100% for category a.

It seems there was no problem with 2.3.0

Hello,

Auto-numbering is at same time useful, but may be also annoying. Roman numbers
use different letters which have signification in some languages:
- M. for Mr in French
- D. for Mr in Spanish (cf. issue 55976)
http://fr.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=55976

To keep power of auto numbering, but without the annoyance of roman number,
would it be possible to have another option in Auto-correction dialog box to
separate roman numbers from other?

Hope to be clear enough.

Laurent BP

Hello,

@hugovazquez : For me it's must have feature, as well for engineering. But
saying that would never help programmers. At least you should vote for this
issue. I think this issue should have more than 9 votes.

To help going a little forward: this feature requires to modify dialog box of
Regression Curve and Statistics, as for moving average regression type (issue
66819). These two issues may be resolved simultaneously.
The minimum to do (to be compatible with MS-Excel), is to have the order of the
polynom (default should be 2) as explained in issue 77930. To go farther,
minimum (default 0) and maximum orders should be given, as in the macro of
Laurent Godard (see attachment). Exponential terms are useless for me, but may
be Laurent Godard has examples where it is necessary. All these values require
to be added in the dialog boxes.
One problem which may occur during calculation of coefficients, is a non
inversible matrix. I don't know which conditions are necessary to avoid this
problem.
Another problem in case of negative orders, will be with null values of x.

Hope it could help resolving this feature... for OOo 3.0?

Laurent BP

Hello,

It seems that the maximum width or hight is 300 whatever unit is (mm, cm, pica,
km, in...). So, for A3 size in mm it is problematic.

The macro with CorelPoly has bad correlation coefficient. Please find enclosed
another version which try to correct the problem. I did also my best to
translate it in english.

Hello,

I don't if it could help, but I would like to indicate the (old) contribution of
Laurent Godard, which can be found here :
http://oooconv.free.fr/fitoo/download/CorelPoly.sxc
On opposite to FitOO which deals with non linear regression through an
optimization method, CorelPoly find the polynomial coefficients, with positive
AND negative power terms.

I suggest to begin with only second order polynomial equation : Y = a + b.X +
c.X² which should be the more needed.

Please note that Issue 77930 gives clear details about this feature.

Best regards

Laurent BP
