That said, I have no idea of what VCL.xcu I'm afraid. To reverse your argument, what's the point of having a headless version if it doesn't behave like the normal one? - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=101507 --- Additional comments from mnas...@openoffice.org Sun Dec 13 13:23:49 + 2009 --- Generating the list of filters with the Basic script found at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Framework/Article/Filter I see a Impress MS PowerPoint 2007 XML AutoPlay filter in OOo 3.1.1. Still .ppsx files cannot be opened automatically, the Filter Selection dialog always appear. Now, if you select Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 XML in the dialog (that is, when you eventually manage to find the right entry, because it shows tens of filters in random order) then the document is displayed correctly. So would it not be possible to just reuse the .pptx filter for .ppsx as well? The really weird thing, and my true problem, is that I couldn't find any way to have OOo open a .ppsx filter programmatically using loadComponentFromURL, not even setting the above Microsoft PowerPoint 2007 XML as FilterName in the MediaDescriptor. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [api-issues] [Issue 41675] memory leak while converti ng

We (as users) should follow the rule of one problem, one issue. How can we expect the OOo team to fix all possible memory leaks for all possible import/export formats as part of a single issue? I tried to focus this issue on a specific case, i.e. PPT import which seemed to be the biggest culprit, in my comment (some 3 years ago now). But people keep adding generic complaints relating to various formats, with the only result that this issue will never be solved, because it's impossible to solve an ill-defined problem. (Incidentally, JODConverter 3.0 for its part now does provide a workaround: it automatically restarts OOo - see http://jodconverter.googlecode.com if interested.) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Instead it starts anyway apparently without errors, but of course it won't be listening on the port that was already busy. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=90961 Issue #|90961 Summary|-nofirststartwizard switch no longer works in OOo 2.4. |1 Component|framework Version|OOo 2.4.1 Platform|Unknown URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|tm Reported by|mnasato --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jun 22 11:21:55 + 2008 --- The -nofirststartwizard switch disables the first time user registration wizard. This doesn't seem to work any more with OOo 2.4.1 on Linux - tested on Ubuntu 8.04. It still works on Windows XP. Case 1: $ rm -rf /tmp/ooo-test $ soffice -evn:UserInstallation=file:///tmp/ooo-test -nofirststartwizard still shows the registration wizard. Case 2: $ rm -rf /tmp/ooo-test $ soffice -evn:UserInstallation=file:///tmp/ooo-test -headless -nofirststartwizard being headless it doesn't show the registration wizard *but* fires up a browser window pointing at http://registration.services.openoffice.org/... The -nofirststartwizard switch is *very* useful when using OOo programmatically from an external application. For example, the open source JODConverter project I wrote starts OOo with a separate temporary UserInstallation directory each time to avoid interfering with the user's standard OOo instance, so must use -nofirststartwizard as well. There are a couple of similar issues but they relate to OOo 3.0 milestones: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=88496 http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89788 while OOo 2.4.1 is a stable release. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [api-issues] [Issue 80374] Add possibility to cancel a loadComponentFromURL() request
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=80374 User mnasato changed the following: What|Old value |New value Status|CLOSED|REOPENED Resolution|INVALID | --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon May 19 10:28:19 + 2008 --- The business case for this Feature Request is clear - if you read the related mailing list discussion that originated it. Some documents may take a long time to load, and in some scenarios it would be better to interrupt the loading operation and just return a message to the user saying Sorry, your document could not be loaded, rather than making him wait for several minutes. If the current implementation of loadComponentFromURL cannot be interrupted because it's synchronous, then provide an asynchronous one that can be interrupted. In any case, I don't think that this request can be considered INVALID, different people have agreed that it would be a useful feature and 2 persons (not me) have voted for it. For this reason I am reopening it. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=81829 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat Mar 1 18:25:10 + 2008 --- Ok, here's an example reported today on the JODConverter forum http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=1955854forum_id=317001 When converting this HTML file http://static.springframework.org/spring/docs/1.2.x/reference/beans.html to PDF with JODConverter, the generated PDF is sometimes incomplete, i.e. contains e.g. 9 pages out of 40. When opening the HTML file manually in Writer and exporting it to PDF it contains all the pages. The number of pages in the incomplete PDF can vary from one attempt to another. The problem seems to occur more frequently on slower hardware (in fact on faster machines it may not occur at all). Also it seems to affect Windows more than Linux. The problem has been discussed on oooforum.org as well, where it has been confirmed by other people http://www.oooforum.org/forum/viewtopic.phtml?p=275942 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. One example when this causes problems is when using OOo as a conversion service, i.e. loading a document and storing it in a different format. On the JODConverter forum people frequently complain about a particular document not being converted correctly when OOo is used programmatically, while everything works fine when using the OOo GUI manually. The latest reporter (yesterday) suggested downloading the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiki page as HTML and then converting it to Word format as a way to reproduce the problem. The simple Python script at http://www.artofsolving.com/files/DocumentConverter.py can be also used for testing. However there are cases where using copies is just necessary: * you're connecting to OOo running on a different machine (using the host parameter in the connection string) * your app is a web app (like the ConverterServlet example in the SDK); in this case all your required JARs must be in your webapp's WEB-INF/lib Needless to say, web app development is very popular these days so especially the latter is something to keep in mind. Making copies is what most people do in practice. If you have a look at the Macros and API forum at oooforum.org you'll notice not everybody likes the new Bootstrap mechanism. (Except oooforum.org today says its DNS service is expired?!?) Back to Maven, it's mostly about managing dependencies in complex Java projects. If your project uses tens of different third-party JARs, and that's fairly common, it becomes a nightware to specify a hard-coded path (that may be different on differnt platforms) for each of them, both at compile time and for deployment. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=71358 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Mon Nov 13 09:14:32 -0800 2006 --- Kay, yes that's exactly what I do: connect to a running OOo process from Java, but be able to build and distribute my app independently of OOo. Yep sandbox.jar is no longer required since OOo 2.0, I'll remove that one thanks. I'm certainly available for maintaining those 4 jars on ibiblio. Uploading new versions at each OOo release is not a huge effort. This would be useful for other projects as well, there are at least a couple of open source ECM solutions that use them already. Files will be versioned, that's mandatory. Maven also provides ways for declaring dependencies on a particular version, or a range of version. For example, if my app only works with jars version 2.0.x but not 2.1.x I would declare something like dependency groupIdorg.openoffice/groupId artifactIdopenoffice-unoil/artifactId version[2.0,2.1)/version /dependency in my project's maven configuration. This can be used to manage incompatible changes in many cases. I would say it is then the responsibility of each application to ensure that it runs against a compatible OOo version. For my app for example I already recommend OOo = 2.0.3 (because of a bug with headless PDF conversions in 2.0.2). I'll provide you with some Maven XML project description files later to agree with you what values should be used as id, description and so on, as described here http://maven.apache.org/guides/mini/guide-ibiblio-upload.html - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. While it may be useful for some type of applications unfortunately it is not good enough in other cases. My application (http://jooreports.sourceforge.net/?q=jooconverter) for example can run in a servlet environment and using a custom classloader inside an application server would be a nightmare. Additionally it can also connect to an OOo instance running on a different machine. All the app needs to know is on which port (and host if different) OOo is listening for connections; it's easier than using a custom class loader and/or trying to guess the OOo installation path. Back to maven, it is not just about distributing JARs, it is also about simplifying the build process for Java projects as well, especially managing dependencies. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [api-issues] [Issue 41675] memory leak while converti ng
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=41675 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thu Jul 27 07:53:09 -0700 2006 --- Being the author of the mentioned JOOConverter (http://sourceforge.net/projects/joott/) open source project I've done some testing myself to make sure the problem was not with my Java code. I'm using OOo 2.0.3 on Linux. The memory usage increase seems to greatly vary based on the type of document used. For example, ODT to PDF only increases by 2.5kb per conversion, which may not be a memory leak at all. However a PPT to PDF conversion using the document attached to this issue does produce a significant increase, approx 1mb for each conversion! Just loading and disposing the document without exporting to PDF results in almost the same increase. While loading and disposing the same document but in ODP format shows not much increase at all. So my guess is that most of the leak is caused by the PPT import filter. However, converting from ODP to PDF also increases memory usage by some 200kb per conversion so there may be a problem with the impress PDF export filter as well. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=48258 Issue #:|48258 Summary:|error connecting to OOo socket without gnome Component:|framework Version:|680m95 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|Linux Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|tm Reported by:|mnasato --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Apr 27 03:45:38 -0700 2005 --- I am trying to perform some document conversions using automation. They works fine fine with OOo 1.1. I start OOo with soffice -headless -accept=socket,port=8100;urp; and connect to it from Java (but for testing purposes I also wrote a Python script pasted below) The problem: from my X session everything was working fine. Then I tried to run OOo in a Xvfb server, and the connection attempt produced the following error on the console where OOo was running Xlib: unexpected async reply (sequence 0x???) (where the sequence code varies) and the client program hanged. Then I discovered that the same error occurs in a regular (not Xvfb) X server as well if Gnome is not running. So I tried starting gnome-session inside Xvfb prior to OOo, and it worked. After some more attempts, it seems that only nautilus is required, not the whole gnome-session. So the test results are as follow: start Xvfb, start OOo, run conversion script: failure start Xvfb, start nautilus, start OOo, run conversion: success additionally start Xvfb, start nautilus, start OOo, stop nautilus (--quit), run conversion: success My guess is that nautilus initialises some bonobo component required by OOo, but I could not find exactly which one. System: tested on both Fedora Core 3 and CentOS 3.3 OOo is the RPM version downloaded from http://www.mirror.ac.uk/mirror/sunsite.dk/openoffice/developer/680_m95/OOo_1.9.95_LinuxIntel_install.tar.gz 1.9.93 had the same problem. Using the OOo GUI works fine without Gnome. But connecting to a OOo connection fails without Gnome even without the -headless switch. Below the python script used for testing. --- file: ooo2pdf.py --- import uno from unohelper import absolutize from os import getcwd from sys import argv, exit from com.sun.star.beans import PropertyValue from com.sun.star.io import IOException, XOutputStream def prop(name, value): return PropertyValue(name, 0, value, 0) input = absolutize('file://'+ getcwd(), argv[1]) output = absolutize('file://'+ getcwd(), argv[2]) localContext = uno.getComponentContext() resolver = localContext.ServiceManager.createInstanceWithContext('com.sun.star.bridge.UnoUrlResolver', localContext) context = resolver.resolve('uno:socket,host=localhost,port=8100;urp;StarOffice.ComponentContext') serviceManager = context.ServiceManager desktop = serviceManager.createInstanceWithContext('com.sun.star.frame.Desktop', context) document = desktop.loadComponentFromURL(input, '_blank', 0, (prop('Hidden', True),)) document.storeToURL(output, (prop('FilterName', writer_pdf_Export),)) document.dispose() - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
