please verify in CWS vcl118

caveat: the issue described here (three lined checkbox where it should be two
lines) is fixed, BUT: due to UI changes the italian stringlist in writer is not
up to date (since there was no translation for 3.4 yet), meaning that some texts
are out of order. Unfortunately that means that some texts that were meant for
help texts are now uses in the UI - exploding it sidewise. This will only be
repaired when the translation round for 3.4 has begun.

this is still strange to me, the text out of the resource file indeed does not
contain a newline character (as it should be) and gets one during linebreaking
after inserite so that there should be 2 lines of text (as it should be) after
which the control is supposed to layout itself. Unfortunately the NSButton (the
native cocoa control) does not do the right thing then and breaks again before
inserite due to what must probably be rounding errors in text measurement.
Adding a single pixel to the control width fixes the problem.

That seems to be the only workaround. Strange.

Fixed in CWS vcl118

no idea. the code constructing this text for the native print dialog will insert
a newline if the text does not fit on one line; never two. I cannot explain how
it comes to three lines.

so we can not fix this issue as this happends in a native dialog, all we can do
is to shorten the string?

Is that a rethorical question ? All I have said and can say ATM is that there is
no explanation for three lines of text appearing unless the resource contains an
additional newline character. Which it apparently does not, at least I did not
find one in the string either the text in l10n or the italian sw resource.

SBA: Confirming issue. The screenshot shows that the string Stampa pagine vuote
inserite automaticamente is splatterd over three lines. Two lines would fit in
that place (seen two lines OK in French). So it looks like there are too many
forced line breaks within the translated string, probably both before and after
the word inserite.

Either this gets corrected via the standard translation cycle or IHI makes a
hack in the database by removing the forced line breaks of that string.
Put IHI on c/c.

As far as we checked, there are no extra line breaks in Pootle (this was our
first idea too, and we verified that was not the case).

So either the problem arises when the Pootle strings are converted or maybe it's
a string rendering problem.

Hi,

the string looks good so far:
sw source\ui\config\optdlg.src 0 checkboxTP_OPTPRINT_PAGE
CB_PRINTEMPTYPAGES 200 it Stampa ~pagine vuote inserite
automaticamente 2002-02-02 02:02:02

no idea why the layout is messed up

That problem occurs on Mac OS only. On Windows, the string reads well in one
line. Set target 3.4.
IHI told me that only a fix in Pootle has a lasting effect. Data base string
hacks get overwritten in the next translation round. I have no DEV300 Italian
build at hands to verify this problem in THAT code line. But normally issues do
not fix themselves :-)
SBA-coni: Please proceed, thx.

The text for Print automatically insterted blank pages is strangely costrained
in italian version, causing the text to go on a new line and becoming
unreadable.
The italian text is Stampa pagine vuote inserite automaticamente. I checked
the translation in pootle but it seems just fine.

Here is a screenshot of italian dialog:
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5365/schermata20101125a21163.png

And there is the same dialog in english, without the problem:
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/5076/schermata20101125a22055.png

Thanks to vitriol and to an anonymous newsgroup user for raising the issue.
