Are you sure it shouldn't just be hda5? o You may want to try using directory names (e.g. /home), rather than devices. It comes in handy if you add disks or move stuff around. Failure and Strange Dump Summary
Ok, now I will wave the white flag I am trying to get amanda working for the first time, but am running into same problem over and over. The particulars are: O/S is Slackware 8.0, amanda version is 2.4.3b3. Amcheck runs fine, but when I do an amdump, the following is what I end up with: Subject: aug AMANDA MAIL REPORT FOR May 2, 2002 These dumps were to tape 3117. True Tape Overflow
Hello All, I am preparing to re-configure my amanda system. I noticed while reading the man pages that the version (2.4.2p2) of amanda I am using will not do true tape overflow. I have an old DDS3 tape changer I am going to use (I have a stockpile of DDS3) with a 12/24G capacity per tape. One of my file systems is slightly over the 24G limit and has not been able to be backed up on my current config of one tape. I was hoping that when I went to the changer and have 2 tapes per run set that it would continue on to the next tape. Now I am not sure. Will the newest version do overflow? Any ideas on how to handle this? Thanks in advance!

Hi David. I've been doing a lot of research lately evaluating various tape library/changer products for our use here. I could share some of my insights so far with you, but it would help to have an approximate conversion of £2000 into dollars. I don't follow currency exchange very closely. ;-) -- Brandon D. I have to set up the cron stuff now, and see how it runs over the weekend. I'm running Red Hat 7.2, and I installed AMANDA from the rpm packages that came with the system (which BTW, are 2.4.2p2). My biggest problem was that, and I found this to be true of any distrobution, when you install from a package someone else created the docs are never where you expect them to be. At least, they're not where they would be had one unpacked, compiled and installed that way. I fixed it by downloading the sources, and extracting the docs from the tar ball in to /usr/share/doc. That's where most of the other docs were. However, if I have any other problems, rest assured I'll ask here. Andy
lbl-templ
I've setup my tapetype to include "lbl-templ 8x11.ps". It generates a nice looking output to the default printer. The only problem I have is that it prints only one page for 90 filesystems. So about line 63, I get 1/2 of a line (the top half) and the rest of the filesystems disappear. Re: How to set up clients
If you have 'amcheck CONFIG' working, then you probably have set up the server as a client. Now you just need to duplicate those steps on other clients. Read the INSTALL file that comes with Amanda. If you have problems, let us know what OS you're running and what errors Amanda reports back including the relevant debugging information generally found in /tmp/amanda. Good luck! Compile just as you did on the server, although you can add --without-server to the configure flags. Install, set up networking (just like on the server), add the client to the disklist, run amcheck, and fix what goes wrong. It's all in the docs... -- Joshua Baker-LePain Department of Biomedical Engineering Duke University
Formatting output of amreport
I seem to recall some messages regarding the format of amreport output but have been unable to locate that information. You can add new tapes any time (as long as their label matches the regexp you've specified) and any tape which doesn't have a dump on it we're supposed to be keeping is eligible to be used anytime.
How to set up clients
Hello, How exactly, do I setup a client? I've setup AMANDA on my tape server (I think, at least I've got amcheck liking my setup) but what this exercise is all about is backing up a classroom environment. So, how do I setup a client? Andy
HP Surestore 1/8
Hi All, I have looked through the Amanda docs and the FAQ to see if a particular autoloader is supported, but I can't find it listed. Does not listed == not supported? Tape changers/libraries
This is not really an amanda question but is an excellent place to get input. I have around £2000 to spend on a changer/library does any one have any suggestions, ideally I would like to be able to back up 400GB but I realise this is maybe not possible for 2K so backup capability is the most important factor. Help with AMANDA.conf
Hello group, This is my first go around with AMANDA and I needed a little guidance in getting things running smoothly. I am using a QUANTUM 4700 (20G/40G) 7 slot stacker under SuSE Linux 7.3. I have been fooling around with the AMANDA conf file, but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or a close configuration. If at all possible, would you share a copy of your amanda.conf so I can get some pointers in getting mine set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Kim C. Callis [EMAIL PROTECTED]
forcing a degraded backup
Hi, I'm looking for a way to force a backup to degraded mode, to holding disk with 2.4.3b3. Reading the docs I didn't find anything obvious yet. Here's what I'm trying to do: I have a 14 slots DLT changer. With a runspercycle of 7, I have plenty of space left on tapes, so I'd like to put 2 days of backup on a tape. I'm trying to get amanda do a degraded backup to holding disk (incrementals only), which should be quite small (less than 5G), one day out of two. The next day this backup would be flushed to tape before the scheduled backups. Of course I'd like to have all this under the same config, so that peoples running amrecover don't have to know if it was a full or degraded backup. The problem is that I don't know how to make it do a degraded dump when there is a valid tape available. Any idea ? -- Manuel Bouyer, LIP6, Universite Paris VI. [EMAIL PROTECTED] --
