Re: [Amsn-devel] New profiles aren't saved

2007-03-11 Thread Youness Alaoui
Hello, I can't reproduce.. from what I noticed, the CloseSB and ClearSB and
whatever are called when the user is
inactive (when testing amsn2, I saw those outputs whenever a failed CHG AWY was
on the protocol log), maybe the
idle event handler has a defect ?
btw, I just added the feature of creating new profiles when the 'remember me'
field is enabled.. now we should
enable users to delete a profile from that window (instead of prefs window..)
WLM has a 'forget me' button under
the remember me one and clicking on it says 'are you sure, you can add it
later, blablabla', but if a user
disabled the 'remember me' and signed in without clicking forget me, he'll
still loose his profile, but without
any warning.. we should do it better... maybe for profiled logins, keep the
remember me disabled, but add a
clickable link next to it with (forget me), so the user is forced to click on
it and read the warning before he
deletes his profile. warning should say that you'll loose all your settings,
chat logs, webcam logs, etc.. and
they cannot be recovered or something like that...
The login screen also needs skinnable options, we also talked about having an
alternate BG for the login screen
if the skinner wants to put an alt-bg.. and the bg should stick up-left, not
down-right. anyways, skinners
(Lee?) would probably be the best people to ask for what improvments are
required in that field.
Apart from that, I like it, apart the fact that it needs a quite big window for
it to work, I mean, resize your
amsn to a small window, then you won't be able to see anything...
and that's annoying especially since the 'default CL size on installation' or
for a new profile is already too
small to contain all the widgets...
oh.. I just tried to see wLM's behavior on this, when you resize, if the window
gets too small, the DP
disappears to leave more space, then the 'forgot password/service status/sign
up' links disappear and are
replaced by a small 'more' clickable link which simply resizes the CL to a size
where all the elements
(including DP) are shown...
then if it gets too small again, the remember me/remember password, etc..
checkboxes disappear, and finally, the
'sign in' button will disappear if you resize to a very small size...
that's for a vertical resize.. on a horizontal resize, the combobox and
password fields are resized to
completely fit inside the CL's width.
this should be an important improvement to have...

Re: [Amsn-devel] about the UI design

2007-03-11 Thread Youness Alaoui
ok, I understand and respect your point, it has indeed good value. let's just
hope we'll focus some more on the
GUI at some time.. I know I hate GUI stuff, vivia hates it too, and the rare
GUI guys are usually inactive :p
about the file transfer, it's very easy to have it inlined.. :p in the same way
we have smileys in a text
widget, we just do a 'insert image' well, with Tk text widget we can do a
'insert window' and we can embed a
whole window/frame inside the tk text widget, and we can put whatever we want
in it...
we're just too lazy to do it :p

the same as the official client's look and feel that's what made
aMSN popular in the first time, it's because it keeps the same look
  and feel.

Actually skype has much of the actual MSN/WLM look and feel but in a better
way; it has much more in common with aMSN than you think; for instance, I
think that for techincal reasons you can't have an inline progress widget
for file transfers as WLM has, but you could certainly improve the file
transfer in a way that resembles the skype one

  if we
change the look for something better, fix little annoyances, then
ok, but a whole change in the UI isn't so good..

No, that's not what I meant; you know aMSN has some sharpness, and sometimes
you ask yourself how should we make this look like?, and you KNOW that
many times aMSN does not look like WLM at all (you see, the DP browser).
This of course DOES NOT mean it's bad; it's good to have a bit of identity,
but my idea was that if you're not sure about how make something look, give
skype a look, and maybe you'll find the idea ;)

  I hated
gaim/kopete/etc.. because I didn't feel at ease with those clients
when I was already used to msn messenger.. although gaim has an
awful UI, kopete has a nice one, but it's different from what you're
used to, so you won't like it.. that's how it works

Well one of the main reason for which people like skype is that it looks
like MSN/WLM and the other IM clients

Re: [Amsn-devel] winks plugin ?

2007-03-11 Thread Tom Hennigan
With the mac version I'd like to be able to ship a ready to rumble
version (no compilation or further installations). So maybe the
author could add an option to check for cabextract in the plugin's
dir, and if it's there then the cabextractor preference is set to
$dir/cabextract (where $dir is taken from the args to the init proc
of the function). Don't worry if the author doesn't want it, I can
always modify the mac version to work this way. Something like this
perhaps:

if {[file exists [file join $dir cabextract]} {
set ::config(cabextractor) [file join $dir cabextract]
}

about cabextract + flash dependency, it's true and it's
annoying, but that's how it is... it means a user has to
check the readme file for the plugin...
I suppose the config window can be made more user-friendly,

2007-03-11 Thread Youness Alaoui
it's a very good point you got there!
As I said on the forum, there are improvements to be made on how it checks for
the dependencies, maybe this
would go as part of the improvements...

The object shows up, the thumbnail aswell, and when I play it I get sound,

is this the plugin not being done, or gnash failing?
