Re: [Amsn-devel] [Amsn-commits] SF.net SVN: amsn: [8610] trunk/amsn

2007-05-12 Thread Tom Hennigan
Thnx I think I've fixed it with r8614. I put plugins.tcl back to how
it was, and changed the buttons2labels function call to work as you
suggested (I hope..).

On 12 May 2007, at 03:54, Youness Alaoui wrote:

good point, but it shouldn't even be like that, because imagine you
 do :
 set plugin example plugin
 set win .$plugin
 label $win
 then
 label $win.something
 or
 $win configure ...

what will happen is that it will fail since $win window does not
 exist, or $win.something invalid path'
since the parent does not exist...
 the fix would be :
 set plugin example plugin'
 set win .$plugin
 set win [label $win]

Also, you should be able to make it work even with a space, you
just need to do an [eval [list $win] ...]
chameleon works with paths containing spaces, look at how chameleon
 does that...
your 'workaround' is not a workaround, it will only generate more
 problems, I'm sure...

I noticed the bug when I tried to configure a plugin with a space

thanks

Anyway, the memleak seems to be in Tcl/Tk8.5 as after some heavy tests,
with Tcl/Tk8.4 the same code doesn't leak... I will investigate in
Tcl8.5 versions to see if some of them are good...

ok! if it didn't happen before, it would be wise to do a binary search on svn
revs to find where it came from,
and reproduce in a simple tcl script, then submit to the tk team so they can
look into it and fix it.

  WHAT THE FUCK???

  what the fuck yourself

FIRST, this is the 0.98 TODO mail thread, so why the fuck would you spam
it with this memleak shit ?

Because I renamed it to 0.97 TODO, so it's not the same thread anymore.

second, why would you reply to this thread, rename the subject into 0.97
TODO and talk about something other
  than 0.98 TODO ?

  See above.

third, which memleak are you talking about I heard
NOTHING about ANY memleak, so now, you say
NO, please, please, fix the darned memleak first while I haven't heard
of anything fucking memleak... try to
make sure you introduce the subject next time! maybe something like 'btw,
we found a memleak, let's try and fix
  it before releasing'

It had been discussed on the forum and on irc. Not my fault if you don't
  know it.

fourth, if it's a gnotify memleak then it has nothing to do with amsn,
since it's a plugin, so unofficial, so
unsupported, so it won't prevent us from releasing 0.97.

When i wrote the first mail i had no idea, ubitux told me. Phil
investigated it and said it's not in gnotify itself.

and finally, I like to have my threads clean, I have one fucking thread
about 0.97 TODO, and everything in it is
related to 0.97 TODO.. NO SPAM now, I have this 0.98 TODO thread with
already 5 mails in it without ANY
relation to the TODO, and this thread became 'dirty', so I'll have to
write a new mail so it becomes into a
separate thread in my mail program just so we can discuss the damn 0.98
  TODO list.

Not my fault if your mail program thinks it's the same thread even if the
subj is changed. If someone changes the subject , obviously they start
  talking about sth else.

  NO SPAM PLEASE!

I should start approving some spam so you should really know what NO SPAM
  means...

Re: [Amsn-devel] Reply in threads, was Re: 0.97 TODO

2007-05-12 Thread Youness Alaoui
well, gmail is stupid then, because changing the subject means nothing, unless
as soon as you change the
subject, the mail thread below (the 'vivia wrote...' part) disappears from your
mail...
and what happens if you write a new mail but with the same subject as an old
thread ?
you use the forums right ? you know you can specify a subject for each post you
do.. so do you think the forums
will create a new thread everytime someone puts a subject line in their 'Post
Reply' different than the subject
from the thread they're replying to ? NO, because you do a REPLY on a THREAD.
So gmail is stupid and
the other 'webmails' you used are also stupid, that's my opinion.
If there's any standard somewhere concerning this shit, I hope someone will
forward the link to these webmails
of yours so you can learn how it works once gmail tells you how to use a mail
client.
about the 'michael moore' thread, don't you think it should go into the same
thread instead of a new one ? since
it IS related to the previous posts right ? it's just the subject line that
changed...

About this 0.97 thread : Vivia you renamed it but you did reply so your
Mail client added a References field in your headers :
   37 References: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   38 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
   39 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
So everybody who display its mail using threads view will see it as a
children of these previously referenced mails...

Well, in gmail (as well as a couple of webmail clients that I've used) the
mail client is reasonable enough to understand that, if the mail subject
is changed, people are talking about something else (like the Michael
Moore fork or the one I am just beginning), so it goes to another thread.
Until now, I really thought that keeping mail with the same References
field but another subject in the same thread was a stupidity - like, how
come they didn't think of this. I didn't know it was standard behavior :o
