[android-developers] Question: Is there a way to inquire the port forwarding done by Android Studio?

2016-03-23 Thread Dato Da
If Android Studio is running on my development machine, when I launch the
app on a device from the command line using this command:

$ adb shell am start -D -n  -a ...

Android Studio would immediately forward a port on the local host (8600 and
up) to the jdwp port of the app, so that the debugger in Android Studio
could debug the app if necessary.

Now, if, say, I would like to use a 3rd party debugger (rather than the
debugger in Android Studio) to debug the app, I will need to connect that
debugger to the port forwarded by Android Studio to that app to get the
debugging to work.

*My question: How can I determine what that port is? *

Here are a couple of things I've tried (to no avail):
1. $ adb forward --list
  Alas, the forwarding done by Android Studio isn't shown.
2. $ adb forward tcp:9010 jdwp:
  Connecting the debugger to 9010 failed, probably because the jdwp
port is already locked up by Android Studio's port forwarding.
3. I can turn on DDMS and see the port assigned to the app. But what I need
is an API or text output so that I can get that info programmatically?

You insight would be appreciated.

[android-developers] Different Business Models in different countries

2016-03-23 Thread Randall Green
Hi All,
Would appreciate some advice.

We are a US based company working to monetize a South African language app. As
Google has not included South Africa in the list of approved Google Merchants,
the workflow we would need to create in order to publish a paid non-advertising
app that can be purchased by South Africans through Google Play (without
entering a 3rd party credit card or pre-paid card or something else) is painful
to say the least. My questions:

1. How have other publishers successfully monetized paid apps other than ad
supported in countries that are not "merchant supported".
2. Could we publish it as an ad supported app in South Africa and a paid app in
the countries which are merchant supported (US, Australia, etc)?

Thanks very much in advance.

Thanks for replying. I imagine I'm doing something horribly wrong, but I'm
not getting much from this. I made a change in my "CameraPreview" class to
add this call, in the "surfaceCreated()" method. It now looks like this,
which will immediately look odd:

public void surfaceCreated(SurfaceHolder holder) {
try {
// create the surface and start camera preview
if (mCamera == null) {
mCamera.setPreviewDisplay(holder);
mCamera.startPreview();
mCamera.autoFocus(new Camera.AutoFocusCallback() {
@Override
public void onAutoFocus(boolean success, Camera camera) {
Log.d(VIEW_LOG_TAG, "Completed autofocus setup: success[" +
success + "]");
}
});
}
else {
mCamera.setPreviewDisplay(holder);
mCamera.startPreview();
mCamera.autoFocus(new Camera.AutoFocusCallback() {
@Override
public void onAutoFocus(boolean success, Camera camera) {
Log.d(VIEW_LOG_TAG, "Completed autofocus setup: success[" +
success + "]");
}
});
}
} catch (IOException e) {
Log.d(VIEW_LOG_TAG, "Error setting camera preview: " + e.getMessage());
}
}

Yes, I'm calling that block for both the null and !null case. I did that
because when I ran in the debugger, I saw that it never got into the "==
null" block, so I'm experimenting with calling it when it's not null. In
any case, it calls the "autofocus()" method, but the "onAutoFocus()" method
is never called. At one point when it retrieves the "Camera.Parameters"
object, I added a log statement for "focusMode", and it prints "auto". And
it doesn't appear to be focusing.

[android-developers] AnimationDrawable animation frame durations, the Choreographer and VSYNC - how best to display an animation frame for ~17ms

2016-03-23 Thread cresst
Hello there,

I'm trying to understand the relationship between AnimationDrawable
callbacks and VSYNC signals, in order to try to define more precisely
animations with very short display times.

So, with an AnimationDrawable, I can add a frame with a specific duration -
 int: How long in milliseconds the frame should appear

However, given that the animations are most likely shown at 60fps, so
~17ms, what happens if the duration of a frame is set to 1ms, or 10ms, or
17ms, or 20ms?

To put the question another way, if you want a particular image to show for
just one frame, then what is the best value to set for the duration? If,
say, the frame duration is 10ms, is that simply queued within the
Choreographer and handled on the next VSYNC?

At what point might a mismatch between frame duration and the VSYNC signal
period mean that the frame might be discarded?

Any advice greatly appreciated,

Thanks very much

I have been advised by my organization's security team that we should look
at updating our signing key length for our application from 1024 bit to
4096 bit. From reading forum postings and other material, it appears that
this will require the release of an entirely new app. Are there successful
migration strategies to make sure that users move from the older app into
the newer app?

[android-developers] Android Publisher API cancel subscription returns invalid value error

2016-03-23 Thread Caleb Pitman

I can access subscription data no problem like so:
https://www.googleapis.com/androidpublisher/v2/applications/packageName/purchases/subscriptions/subscriptionId/tokens/token

I attempt to cancel the subscription by adding ":cancel" to the end of the
query
https://www.googleapis.com/androidpublisher/v2/applications/packageName/purchases/subscriptions/subscriptionId/tokens/token:cancel

This returns JSON (parsed):

Array
(
[error] => Array
(
[errors] => Array
(
[0] => Array
(
[domain] => global
[reason] => invalid
[message] => Invalid Value
)

)

[code] => 400
[message] => Invalid Value
)

)

It seems that either
1) The API is broken (unlikely)
2) I haven't enabled some sort of permissions to cancel a subscription via
API

Any other ideas?

[android-developers] SearchView not working after adding a fragment which has Options Menu

2016-03-23 Thread Janette Juavelle

   - I have an activity *AA* which contains a *SearchView* in the action
   bar menu.
   - And I have a fragment *BF* which has OptionsMenu;
   - the problem is that the *SearchView* works fine at first, but when I
   show the fragment BF, the*SearchView* does not work properly any more,
   it let me to enter text but it does not show suggestion list, and does not
   provoke *onNewIntent()*.

So Did I miss something? Or Is this a bug?

PS. I'm testing using a device with Android version 5.1.1.

XML:

Java:

class AA extends ActionBarActivity { //android.support.v7.app
void showBF() {
BF bf = BF.newInstance();
FragmentTransaction transaction =
getSupportFragmentManager().beginTransaction();
transaction.replace(R.id.container, bf, "bf")
.addToBackStack(null)
.commit();
}}class BF extends Fragment {
public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
setHasOptionsMenu(true);

[android-developers] Symbol Table for android application java code

2016-03-23 Thread MassiveGlitch

Hi, hoping someone can help me.

I need to generate a symbol table for the java code I have written for my
android application.
I want to use that in conjunction with the tools that are already available
in Android Studio
to make sure my app is fast and efficient.

Does anyone know if there is a way to generate a Symbol Table from Android

not is there an external package or code to generate it?

Thanks.

[android-developers] Re: Camcorder app produces video that is out of focus, and upside down

2016-03-23 Thread gjs
Hi,

For the focus / fuzzy issue try initiating auto focusing of the camera
before you start recording your video -

http://developer.android.com/reference/android/hardware/Camera.html#autoFocus(android.hardware.Camera.AutoFocusCallback)

- you can also do this whilst the video is recording as well, although you
will have periods of a few seconds where focus is lost before being
regained.

Note sure about upside down video, I suspect this not the video recording
but perhaps some Camera Preview rotation mismatch / issue in your
CameraPreview class ? Compare the Camera Preview orientation in your app vs
when you use the default Camera App. (NOTE also that Nexus 5X has some
wrong camera preview orientation issues...)
