[android-developers] Starting another Activity

Hello everyone I am trying to follow the building your first app tutorial 
provided on the developer pages however I have hit a snag. For some reason 
the final code provided for the DisplayMessageActivity class does not match 
the tutorial. I have gone through it multiple times and just can't figure 
it out. If anyone has a better alternative please tell me.

[android-developers] Android | How to use IsolatedProcess

As far as i understand, an IsolatedProcess is here to run untrusted code.


But if the IsolatedProcess is basicly a process without any permissions, 
how can one send the untrusted code (lets say a class) to the 
IsolatedProcess?


I mean the IsolatedProcess have no access to the files in the device , to 
the internet, or anything else.

So what is the way to send the untrusted code to the IsolatedProcess?


I am trying to pass Constructors to the IsolatedProcess so he can start 
this untrusted classes safetly, but all the communication between processes 
must be with Serializable objects, and a Constructor is not a Serializable 
object.


Is there a way to dynamically run jar file inside the isolatedprocess? 

I was thinking of loading the jar file from a normal service, and than 
adding it somehow to the classpath of the application plus sending the jar 
as byte array to the isolatedprocess so the isolatedprocess will be able to 
evaluate and use it aswell.

Odd, somehow the Dialer directory doesn't contain the customary NOTICE and 
MODULE_LICENSE_APACHE2 files that are included in most Android directories. 
Likely an oversight from Google, most probably when Dialer got split off from 
Contacts. Oops, I guess I deserve some of that blame.
Individual files appear to be marked with an Apache2 header, the same as the 
rest of Android, which contains the license information you need.

Hello folks,

google made the source code of their dialer app publicly available here: 
https://android.googlesource.com/platform/packages/apps/Dialer/

Now I am working on a similar application for University, but we do focus 
on some speech signal processing for medical research, and do not want to 
implement the whole telephone application first. My question is: Can I make 
use of this source code, modify it, and create my own application from it?

I would make it clearly visible which code is taken from Google, and would 
not want to monetize the application in any way. However, I am not sure if 
I am allowed to make use of this code.

[android-developers] android device to test app

I have what I think is an Android smartphone.  When I plug it into my pc 
and run a project in Android Studio, the device doesn't show as available.  
Is there anything else I have to do to make the device show?  I'm not even 
sure this device is an Android.  That's how new I am to this.  I'm looking 
into purchasing a Nexus 5.  I want to be sure I know it will be able to be 
used to test Android Studio projects before I purchase it.

[android-developers] package name different

Hello,
an application was created with a following package name: fr.txt.kiosque 
... on customer gmail account for Android and on behalf of developer for 
Apple.
Since the customer took to his name an Apple developer account.
He asked that the applications are created for Apple's platform.
But we are faced with the following problem:
- On App Store, the application has been removed and then rename the 
client's convenience: com.client.kiosque instead of fr.txt.kiosque
- On Android, we do not find the solution. It would remove the application 
created under the name fr.txt.kiosque so we can recreate this App with a 
different package name: com.client.kiosque
Is it possible to do? And if so, how ?

[android-developers] Can I run Android emulator (part of Android Studio 2.0) on Windows Server 2012 hosted on VMware?

Hi all,

I am evaluating Android emulators and would like to know if I can run the 
official emulator (part of Android Studio 2.0) on VMware? I can 
successfully run several Android emulators on a physical machine 
simultaneously, and run my automated tests on them. However, I will need 
more emulators to run in parallel, and also like to leverage the existing 
company infrastructure that supports virtualization extensively.

I've tried the following configuration, but the emulator failed to launch 
due to "VCPU shutdown request" error.

   - VM with HAXM support enabled
   - Windows Server 2012 OS
   - Java JDK 8.91
   - Android Studio 2.0
   - Emulator Nexus 5, API 22, x86-64 bit, 1 GB RAM
   - HAXM tool installed with sufficient RAM allocated

I've read various online posts saying that emulators can't be run on VMs, 
but I am searching for any update from Google on this topic.
