[android-developers] WebView.canGoBack is not working in Samsung S

2018-02-23 Thread Shruthi Varma
 Hi All,

I have webview in my application.
I have to make some changes on the screen depending on whether it is the
first page of the webview screen or the user has clicked on some links to
move further.
So, I was using WebView.canGoBack method for this implementation.
It is working perfectly fine in all other devices except Samsung S8.
Only in Samsung S8, WebView.canGoBack is returning false, even if the user
has clicked the link and has moved to the second web page.
Please help me in fixing this issue which occurs only in Samsung S8.

Regards,
Shruthi

[android-developers] Rare issue with VideoView

2013-06-17 Thread Shruthi Varma
Hi All,

I have worked on VideoView on all versions prior to ICS. It is working
perfectly fine.
Recently, my team bought a Karbonn A7 Smartphone which runs on Android 4.0
ICS
When I tried to play a Video URL in a VideoView, while the VideoView was
preparing, the view had a transparent background (instead of the
traditional opaque black background), as a result, the previous activity's
view was shown in the foreground. I didn't understand, why it is happening
like this.
Did any of you have faced this issue with ICS VideoView?
If yes, please help me out with the solution. If no, I think, the issue
might be in the phone or something..

Thanks and Regards,
Shruthi.

Re: [android-developers] Error in Base IceCream Sandwitch Android code.

2012-05-18 Thread Shruthi Varma
Thanks for your suggestion. I don't know whether my expected behavior is
correct. But I am sure receiving an incoming call is of high priority in an
android phone. So, what if the user is not capable of taking calls when the
progressDialog is running. If the progressDialog is hidden to take the
call, it can again be made visible after the user has cut the call.
This behavior can be seen in any app, but not here.

Regards,
Shruthi.

2012-05-17 Thread Shruthi Varma
Hi Saran,

Here in this case, the phone gets an incoming call after the user has
pressed Sign in button. So, If I check the telephony state while
clicking Sign In button, it doesn't work. This issue occurs very rare
only when the wifi connection is low. I mean the connection is fast, the
progressDialog is shown only for 2 secs. But otherwise, the dialog just
runs in the foreground, and the incoming call screen in the background.

Shruthi.

Hi Ramesh,

It is in Android IceCream Sanditch code. It is an open source code. U just
have to search for AccountUnlockScreen.java. (
http://source-android.frandroid.com/frameworks/base/policy/src/com/android/internal/policy/impl/AccountUnlockScreen.java
)

See the getProgressDialog() method in here. The progressDialog is hidden

Re: [android-developers] How to fill the screen in GridLayout using child views?

2012-01-10 Thread Shruthi Varma
To use layout_weight, I need LinearLayout.
I have so many other items placed in random order inside GridLayout.
So, I am not able to use LinearLayout.

But my actual problem is GridLayout is not filling the screen width.
Even if I give, layout_width as fill_parent for GridLayout... It only
covers half of the screen as it has just 4 columns.

How to make it cover the whole screen width?? Please help/

 Use a LinearLayout inside a GridLayout.
 Or change your requirements.

There is no layout_weight in GridLayout.

Please help me to get the solution for API level 14.

[android-developers] How to delete sms chats from Messaging Inbox programmatically?

2011-10-31 Thread Shruthi Varma
Hi All,

I am developing a chat based application where I have to send and
receive sms chats from a particular number and display it inside my
application. Those chats should not be visible in the Messaging Inbox
of the phone.

I am able to send messages from my app easily, it is not recorded in
the Messaging Inbox.
But the problem lies in receiving sms.

Using Broadcast Receiver, I am able to receive sms in my app, but
those sms chats are visible in the Messaging Inbox too.

I want to write a code where the messages from a particular number are
received from my app and deleted from the Messaging Inbox
simultaneously.

Please help me to achieve this.

Regards,
Shruthi Varma.

 That is because you are not calling abortBroadcast().

 No, you need to call abortBroadcast(), so lower-priority receivers do
 not receive the broadcast.

 The fact that third-party SMS clients might have a higher priority
 than yours would suggest that perhaps using SMS as a vehicle for chat
 is not a wise move.

Hi All,

In my application, I get all the cookies from the post requests with

I want to save these cookies so the next time the app is started, the

I don't know how to save the cookies in an application.

Because in the shared preferences, only primitive types (strings,
integers, boolean values) can be stored.

If I store the cookie value in the form of a string. I don't know how
to set it to HttClient.setCookieStore(CookieStore); when the
aplication starts again

Please help me.

Re: [android-developers] How to create Dynamic Arrays?

2011-07-13 Thread Shruthi Varma
Hi,

You didn't get my point.

After parsing that xml, I will get a number of magazines (images).

I have to store all the images of each magazine in a separate ArrayList.

If I know in advance that I will get 3 magazines, I can initialize 3
ArrayList and store images in it as you said.

But the number of magazines can change from time to time (in the server
side).

So, how can I initialize n number of ArrayList where n is determined at
runtime. :(

 Hi Shruti,

 For example,

 In the Beginning, you initialize an ArrayList like this:

 ArrayListString mNames = new ArrayListString();
 In your parsing code, as when you discover an item, you can do:

 mNames.add(item.toString());

 I hope this helps you to an extent..

Re: [android-developers] How to scroll images with both swipe and click in android?

2011-06-30 Thread Shruthi Varma
Yes I know, how to get the click event from a button and how to move to a
specific item in a Gallery by using setSelection.

But if I select the first item, that item will be in the middle of the
screen and only 2 images shows up.
When I move to second image, the 2nd image will come to middle and 3 images
will cover the screen,
and on selecting 3rd item, first item will be out of the screen and the 2nd,
3rd and 4th image shows up.

What I need is to show 3 images on the screen, where the first image is
selected,
when I click or swipe, 1st image should be replaced by the second image,
second by 3rd and 3rd by 4th using slide animation.

I am not able to get the exact way as this in android, compared to my
colleagues in Iphone, who have achieved this using the ScrollView method of
Iphone.
So, I was thinking is there any default methods in android, or Should I have
to customize it.

Regards,
Shruthi.

Re: [android-developers] [android-developer] exception catch sequence

2011-05-05 Thread Shruthi Varma
Use alll, what's the problem in that.
An object.close() doesn't give you exception if you have initialized that
object.
But still I think these 3 might be important as it deals with the
inputstream.

fileInput.close()
buf.close()
dataInput.close()

InputStreams must be closed after its contents are obtained by another
object.

Regards,
Shruthi.

Re: [android-developers] static variable set to null

2011-04-13 Thread Shruthi Varma
Because many instances of that object (static variable) is created. If you
want to share the variable across all the activities, use shared preferences
for primitive types like integer, float, string, boolean etc. You can also
use a Singleton class, which creates one instance, with getter and setter
methods.
By using Singleton class, you can share all the data including string arrays
and arraylist throughout your application.

Here is an example of Singleton class :

public class Singleton {
private static Singleton instance;
public String userid = ;
public String[] cateogoryName;
private ArrayListBitmap CatImageBit = new ArrayListBitmap();
private Bitmap freebitmap;

 public String[] getcategoryName() {
return cateogoryName;
}

public void setcategoryName(String[] cat_name) {
this.cateogoryName = cat_name;
}

public ArrayListBitmap getCatImageBit() {
return CatImageBit;
}

public void setCatImageBit(ArrayListBitmap ImageBit) {
this.CatImageBit = ImageBit;
}

public String getUserid() {
return userid;
}

public void setUserid(String userId) {
this.userid = userId;
}

public Bitmap getfreeImage() {
return freebitmap;
}

public void setfreeImage(Bitmap freeimage) {
this.freebitmap = freeimage;

}

// constructor is made inaccessible by declaring
// it private
private Singleton() {

}

// Access to the single instance of the class is
// provided by a static accessor method
public static Singleton getInstance() {
// returns a reference of the private instance
return instance;
}

 public static Singleton createMySingleton() {

if (instance == null)
 instance = new Singleton();

   // instance.setUname(username);
return instance;
}

}

// End of code

I hope this helps you.

Regards,
Shruthi.

[android-developers] Problem with DefaultHttpClient in LG P500h android.

2011-04-13 Thread Shruthi Varma
Hello everyone.

I am working on a project which needs login authentication for other
connections with server.
So, I am using the same DefaultHttpClient for Login and other connections.
Because the AXPAUTH cookie will be stored in that DefaultHttpClient
connection.
My application works on all the devices.
(I have tested with Motorola Milestone, HTC Desire, Samsung Pop, Samsung
Galaxy, Micromax).
But it doesn't work on LG P500h in Canada.
It has some problem with the DefaultHttpClient in LG P500h.
In that device, the AXPAUTH cookie is not being stored for other server
connections in the same DefaultHttpClient.
I don't know how to solve this device issues.
Can anyone help me with this issue.

Thanks and Regards,
Shruthi.
