Mark, yes, it make sense to sell app you already made. But look at
https://slideme.org/application/speed-forge-3d, this is probably best
3d racing game on android and it sold 512 copies.

2009-10-14 Thread karthikr

I have developed a few applications and am waiting for releasing them.

Its like everyday i login and search the blogs and mail someone
regarding the status or the probable date of launching the same in
India.

I am getting fed up with numerous mails to google checkout and android
market support, No positive replies, no tentative datesnothing.

I am getting demotivated to a large extent. Why cant someone from
google atlease post a reply on the tentative dates.

We can atleast take decisions based on that right.

Isnt there any google employee watching this?

I didn't know (and did't expected to be honest) that Google is slower
then Microsoft and Apple in this. Only good in this is that you need
market only for paid apps, most android users are techies anyway and
they are absolutely able to install package on their own.
On other hand, I'll never develop paid app for android, until market
works here (in Czech, but whole world will do). Android have other big
disadvantages - market penetration is first, this one sink it for me
(as a developer, I love my Hero :) )

Hi there,

I too have been waiting a long time to sell paid app's from Australian
devs. Initially I thought we would be included much earlier as Optus/
Singtel have been selling 'G1' type phones for quite a while now and
you can buy apps through the market with these phones. But alas this
is not to be yet, despite being able to use Google checkout for other
purposes. I guess Google knows there is only a few Android devs here
in Australia ( and they would probably know the number of android
phones Optus has been selling ) so it is not worth their efforts yet
and are probably concentrating on regions where more devs reside...

I'm also an Australian Dev. However, I gave up waiting for Google and
started selling my app through a friends U.S. address.

Although, I haven't cashed out any of the money yet (don't want to
deal with the tax implications of a US bank account).

The wierd thing is, Google are already paying straight into my
Australian bank account for my AdSense account, so I'm not sure what
the trouble is.

Depressing, indeed. I was naively hoping Australia would get on the
merchant list soon (ie. in the month) but doesn't look like Google
really care about the $$. In the scheme of things, it's only a tiny

It's the same as the situation in the Android Market, some do well, some
don't. TetherWifi is a $9 app and has sold over 400 copies . Bloo a $2 app
has sold 500. A critical point is that at least developers can market their
app with screenshots and video. Marketing of apps takes time and building a
user base.

Yes, that is why a lot of developers use SlideME. For instance, when
Google/T-Mobile banned tethering apps, those apps showed up on SlideME. Bloo
was another very popular app that was in great demand from users without
access to Android Market. So basically, if you can't sell an app or buy an
app through traditional channels like Android Market, then we are great
alternative. On SAM, our mobile marketplace client, users are able to view a
gallery of screenshots and even a video of your app, so it's a much better
way to entice users into buying. Users can even scan a QR code from our
web-site and then buy your app.

We have over 40K downloads of SAM and HTC has put it on their Hero devices
in Malaysia and Vietnam; we have another bigger distribution deal we expect
to announce next month. So while Android Market may be the biggest out
there, it's not really the best for the developer or user.

 days!

Australian Vodaphone users (HTC Magic) have access to paid apps, while
Australian Optus users (HTC G1) do not.

2009-08-29 Thread Bruce Rees

I'll add my vote, I'm in New Zealand and the HTC magic is available
thru Vodafone but we can neither buy or sell apps, all enquiries on
the market forum seem to go unanswered.. Apple seem to have no
problems with itunes so it's hard to imagine what's holding Google up?

[android-developers] Re: Countries for selling priced applications in Android Market

2009-08-29 Thread Armond Avanes

Following this discussion, I'm curious to know the reason why Google pulled
Australia out of merchant location list? It was in the list for a few days!
Again a typo like the one back in February when they launched the paid
market and Australia was mistakenly in the list? Or something is going on
behind the scene?

Armond
