More evidence... I've suspected that G selected their ADC2 r2 candidates about then, offered them an NDA (and a phone?) and a chance to upgrade to android 2.0. Nothing else that I can think of would explain the lame silence. I am sure by posting this you're already in violation of the NDA, so it won't hurt if you share with us what that developer program that might be. On a general note here: So now your busting your tail off for an early release just to find that you're releasing into a sea of apps that might not function properly under 2.0. With that company you don't stand to win all that much ground. That to me looks like the Vista situation: You put in all the effort to proudly release on Vista early just to find that everyone's staying on XP as the crowd's not ready to make the move b/c too much stuff breaks all the while not too much benefit comes with the upgrade anyways. I hope you were not associating me with Sprint. I merely hinted that he may want to put some conditions on what type of apps he was looking to promote. My app is obviously not intended for anyone under 18 and deals with adult subject matter. This is probably the type of information that should be put out with any call for app submissions. Now if he wants to hand me his paycheck I'll let you associate me with sprint for awhile. ;-) On Tue, Oct 27, 2009 at 10:46 PM, JP joachim.pfeif...@gmail.com wrote: Well let's see Just a few months ago I go sign up to Clearwire's Silicon Valley WiMax dev program. [android-developers] Re: NEEDED: Apps to feature on Sprint Microsite
How about a (small) developer event? Participants who take a positive vibe out could conceivably influence their peers to submit their apps to your client. On Oct 27, 9:20 am, tvprintweb tvprint...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Niko, Thanks for the feedback. Your cynicism actually helps. I wouldn't dare say we're accelerating apps, and I'm not allowed to say how exactly the apps will be featured, only that the site will be very hyped and that the App page in particular will showcase them in a really clever way. You've done more than most by pointing this out. If you have any other tips or ideas you wouldn't mind sharing, we'd love to hear them Quenitn On Oct 27, 8:21 am, niko20 nikolatesl...@yahoo.com wrote: Hi, If you haven't gotten many replies it's probably because it feels dubious - for example, Motorola had their App accelerator program, which seemed like a good thing, but hasn't done squat for developers yet IMO (I joined it). Really, when I hear good promotion for your app I now think yea whatever, same old story. Apologies for the cynical outlook but we've heard lots of promises about Android and never seen much delivery yet. Maybe that will change soon who knows. -niko On Oct 26, 5:02 pm, tvprintweb tvprint...@gmail.com wrote: Hello Developers, THE GIST: Your App + Our Site = Mass promotion at no cost. I work for Goodby Silverstein Partners, the advertising agency that represents Sprint and the new HTC Hero with Android. Right now, we're building out Phase 2 of our HTC Hero microsite at www.sprint.com/ android. We're still looking for fun, clever, surprising, or even every day in a good way apps to feature and promote. In exchange for promoting your app, we will need a high res screen shot and for you to sign a release. It's that simple. Ok, almost THE CATCH: The catch is a release (Ha!). It is an agreement that says you've given us permission to use a screenshot of your app across all media in association with the Sprint/HTC Hero phone with Android for the life of the project. This isn't to trap or exploit anyone; it's just to assure our team that we have obtained permission for use of your app. It's one page, clear English, and we can answer any questions you have, but it's absolutely mandatory. No exceptions. THE BENEFITS: Your 'little app that could' getting major promotion in a way that you probably can't-- with no cost to you. And we're not just throwing screens up on a site. The integration will be absolutely relevant to visitors and something we think you'll be pleased to be a part of. [android-developers] Re: NEEDED: Apps to feature on Sprint Microsite
The process seems straight forward to me. What do you have to lose? Ok, so your app doesn't get 100,000 downloads in a day from the effort. App publicity is hard to come by, especially for free. It's seems like a deal that can't be missed, so stop the complaining and help the promotion out. The more apps they have to promote, the better their promotion can be. -John Coryat Radar Now!
