I also got a flurry of offers more or less like this, most come
directly through email, but i've come to ignore them... Personally
what would get me to pay more attention to such things would be that
the sender is someaddr...@aknowncompany.com (e.g.
someaddr...@sprint.com). Imho this detail would make a huge
difference.

Nothing else that I can think of would explain the lame silence.

2009-10-30 Thread JP

I am sure by posting this you're already in violation of the NDA, so
it won't hurt if you share with us what that developer program that
might be.

On a general note here: So now your busting your tail off for an early
release just to find that you're releasing into a sea of apps that
might not function properly under 2.0. With that company you don't
stand to win all that much ground. That to me looks like the Vista
situation: You put in all the effort to proudly release on Vista early
just to find that everyone's staying on XP as the crowd's not ready to
make the move b/c too much stuff breaks all the while not too much
benefit comes with the upgrade anyways.

2009-10-28 Thread Wayne Wenthin
I hope you were not associating me with Sprint. I merely hinted that he
may want to put some conditions on what type of apps he was looking to
promote. My app is obviously not intended for anyone under 18 and deals
with adult subject matter. This is probably the type of information that
should be put out with any call for app submissions.

Now if he wants to hand me his paycheck I'll let you associate me with
sprint for awhile. ;-)

whatever, I've never heard back so I couldn't say. Would have been
nice to put that Nokia N810 WiMax Edition on their network and toy
around with some of the stuff I built for that.
Then there's Moto's Accelerator program that I've passed on,
thankfully, as we hear not too many tangible results are coming out of
that.
In recent memory we've got an evangelist from Sprint that managed to
throw away the upfront credit he's got here in just two post. That
must be record time.

Wayne, so far your effort has been laudable. But then... this morning
I check on Sprint's web site following your post and do not find any
evidence there's even a phase 1. So, with the above in mind, looks
like another poorly executed effort, no?

[android-developers] Re: NEEDED: Apps to feature on Sprint Microsite

2009-10-27 Thread niko20

Hi,

If you haven't gotten many replies it's probably because it feels
dubious - for example, Motorola had their App accelerator program,
which seemed like a good thing, but hasn't done squat for developers
yet IMO (I joined it).

Really, when I hear good promotion for your app I now think yea
whatever, same old story.

Apologies for the cynical outlook but we've heard lots of promises
about Android and never seen much delivery yet. Maybe that will change
soon who knows.

Hi Niko,

Thanks for the feedback. Your cynicism actually helps. I wouldn't
dare say we're accelerating apps, and I'm not allowed to say how
exactly the apps will be featured, only that the site will be very
hyped and that the App page in particular will showcase them in a
really clever way.

You've done more than most by pointing this out. If you have any
other tips or ideas you wouldn't mind sharing, we'd love to hear them

A good starting point would be to let us know what types of apps you are
looking for. For example my app is probably not something you would hype
because of the implied nature of it.

for an example look at www.fuligin.com/game.html

How about a (small) developer event? Participants who take a positive
vibe out could conceivably influence their peers to submit their apps

The process seems straight forward to me. What do you have to lose?
Ok, so your app doesn't get 100,000 downloads in a day from the
effort. App publicity is hard to come by, especially for free. It's
seems like a deal that can't be missed, so stop the complaining and
help the promotion out. The more apps they have to promote, the better
their promotion can be.
