Hi Angela,

We are happy to hear this news! We congratulate Coherit Associates LLC and
everyone involved. We’ve been following your activities in Barbados and
Jamaica, including the outreach and training with the local communities. It’s
exciting to see the outcome of your work in these live Arches implementations.

We would like to feature both instances on the Arches
Implementations page
of our website. Please let me know if you would like for us to include them.

Thanks for sharing the news with the Arches community!

Best,

Alina

I'm excited to share with the Arches community two more installations that are
live!

  * The Jamaica National Inventory of Historic
Places, managed by the Jamaica National
Heritage Trust: https://siteinventory.jnht.com/

  * The Barbados National Registry of Historic
Places, managed by the Ministry of Creative
Economy, Culture and Sports: https://heritagebarbados.gov.bb/
Both sites were part of an initiative to establish and improve
community-driven, national inventories/registers in the region as part of the
Organization of American States
project, "Enhancing the Framework for the Development of a Heritage Economy in
the Caribbean". The project was funded by the Permanent Mission of the United
States to the Organization of American States.

We congratulate the governments of Barbados and Jamaica for their hard work in
establishing and launching their inventories and community engagement campaigns
(an especially challenging feat during COVID-19 curfews and work-from-home
orders!).

Technical expertise in establishing the programs, customizing Arches, and
training was provided by my firm, Coherit Associates LLC. Arches installation
and server administration was provided by LegionGIS.

We recognize David Myers, Alison Dalgity, and Alina Myklebust at GCI, who
provided guidance and support in implementing Arches in the region. And we so
appreciate the ongoing technical support provided by members of this community!

Thank you to everyone who collaborated in this effort!

Cheers Phil, I agree about the need for 2 Resource Models. I now have 2
resource models: Person (Actor); Organisation (Actor.

Yep, that works; see attached.

Thanks, nice stuff learnt today - cheers again,

You could either:

  1. Create a Name branch which has a node called Name and a Name Type lookup
(with Person and Organization as the two values) then you could set the
function to show , and it would show “John Smith, Person” or
“Boots the Chemist, Organization”
  2. Create separate Person and Organization models

I’d favour 2 as it allows you to create a more detailed person model with
birth/death, forename, surname, title etc.

Thanks Reuben, Phil, that's worked perfectly for an Organisation name; see

How do I apply the same in Functions for Person name - Person name also appears
as a node in Actor resource mode; see attached 'John Smith' example.

Cheers both,

Hey again,

Okay, final query for today. This one's about creating a new Actor card.

So, I've created an Actor card for the 'Royal Commission on the Historical
Monuments of England'. And saved it.

But when I search for this Actor card it says it's 'undefined' and so it
doesn't return on a search or when I want to add it as an organisation name to
an Activity card.

How so?

How do I turn this Actor card from 'undefined' to the 'Royal Commission on the
Historical Monuments of England'.

I've looked in the Arches Guide but can't see why I'm getting 'undefined'.

Thanks as ever all,

Jude.

[Arches] Two Arches installations live in the Caribbean!

2020-09-23 Thread Angela Labrador
I'm excited to share with the Arches community two more installations that
are live!

   - The Jamaica National Inventory of Historic Places
, managed by the Jamaica National
   Heritage Trust: https://siteinventory.jnht.com/

   - The Barbados National Registry of Historic Places
, managed by the Ministry of Creative
   Economy, Culture and Sports: https://heritagebarbados.gov.bb/

Both sites were part of an initiative to establish and improve
community-driven, national inventories/registers in the region as part of
the Organization of American States
 project, "Enhancing the
Framework for the Development of a Heritage Economy in the Caribbean". The
project was funded by the Permanent Mission of the United States to the
Organization of American States.

We congratulate the governments of Barbados and Jamaica for their hard work
in establishing and launching their inventories and community engagement
campaigns (an especially challenging feat during COVID-19 curfews and
work-from-home orders!).

Technical expertise in establishing the programs, customizing Arches, and
training was provided by my firm, Coherit Associates LLC. Arches
installation and server administration was provided by LegionGIS.

We recognize David Myers, Alison Dalgity, and Alina Myklebust at GCI, who
provided guidance and support in implementing Arches in the region. And we
so appreciate the ongoing technical support provided by members of this
community!

Thank you to everyone who collaborated in this effort!

Angela

RE: [Arches] Arches v5 - Undefined Actor, why?

2020-09-23 Thread Carlisle, Philip
Ahh! There may be an issue with having two nodes on separate branches as the
function looks at a card and you won’t be able to point it at two cards.

Thanks Phil, that works perfectly, I just created this card level help for
Activity name node. Great. I'll have fun with creating help tips for the
other nodes, so much better to have onscreen field help.

You want to create the help text in the card.

If you open the card designer for the node you want to add help text to you can
either simply edit the Placeholder text (see below ) in the Widget Manager side
bar – you can just overwrite “Enter text” with anything you like.

Hello all,

I've started putting together a Resource Editor Guide so the team here can
start editing and creating records on Arches. Basic question:

How do you create onscreen Help text for each Node and do users access this
Help text?

Thanks,

Jude.

2020-09-23 Thread reuben....@k-int.co.uk
Hi Jude,

This is because you need to reconfig the descriptor functions for this
resource model; this where you can pick card values to use as the display
name and display description!
If you go to the Arches Manager > Resource Models > Actor model's 'Manage'
button > Manage Functions > Define Resource Descriptors ... You can then
have a look around the different options. I imagine the setup you want is
like that in the imagine attached. Oh and if you have exsiting records for
this model, you will have to click 're-index' on the right for these
changes to take effect.

Cheers,
Reuben

[Arches] Arches v5 - Undefined Actor, why?

2020-09-23 Thread manxnation...@gmail.com
Hey again,

Okay, final query for today. This one's about creating a new Actor card.

So, I've created an Actor card for the 'Royal Commission on the Historical
Monuments of England'. And saved it.

But when I search for this Actor card it says it's 'undefined' and so it
doesn't return on a search or when I want to add it as an organisation name
to an Activity card.

How so?

How do I turn this Actor card from 'undefined' to the 'Royal Commission on
the Historical Monuments of England'.

I've looked in the Arches Guide but can't see why I'm getting 'undefined'.

Thanks as ever all,

Jude.

[Arches] Arches v5 - how do you create Help text for a Node?

2020-09-23 Thread manxnation...@gmail.com
Hello all,

I've started putting together a Resource Editor Guide so the team here can
start editing and creating records on Arches. Basic question:

How do you create onscreen Help text for each Node and do users access this
Help text?

Thanks,

Jude.
